Hi,
I'm not from Ohio, but from Iowa, where we also had buckeyes! So your post caught my attention and brought back pleasant memories!
for those who don't know what a buckeye is, it is the state tree of ohio.
it also grows in michigan, but most michiganders try to kill them off and burn them at ohio state - michigan football games when ohio state loses.
the buckey tree produces brown fruit that look like a chestnut, except they are poisonous.

hi,.
i'm curious is anybody posting here lives near the denver area, like i do.
Hi,
I'm curious is anybody posting here lives near the Denver area, like I do.
you will have to understand that i have to change a few details here and there so that i can't be identified.. as many of you are aware i serve as an elder, and from time to time i have been asked by the service desk to handle matters for them by means of "the special committee arrangement".
(a phrase you will not find in any wt letter or elders textbook.
) just to explain.. "a special committee is often set up when, an original committee (ojc)decides to disfellowship an individual, who then appeals against the judgement.
Your posting has given me a lot to think about, and it spurred me to post an offshoot question regarding DFing, DAing, etc.
I am currently an active JW, but like you, have seen some very disturbing things in the organization. (Though, being a sister, I've seen them from "a distance.") Not being able to just turn a blind eye to some of it and have a clean conscience, I am finding myself having to reevaluate and research in an attempt to find scriptural answers to my questions and fortify my faith.
It sounds like that's what you are trying to do too. Whether the info proves to build up our faith or erode it, the bottom line seems to be to make sure of what we're told, as the Boreans did.
Thanks for posting your very honest message. It takes courage, I know.
i have a question involving disassociating, disfellowshipping, and apostasy.
particularly daing.. the bible say where someone comes to you and does not bring "this teaching" or is an unrepentent practicer of gross sin, never let them into your homes or greet him; remove the wicked man from among yourselves.
and this is the scriptural basis used for shunning persons who are df'd or da'd.. but my question is this: when it says if someone comes to you and doesn't bring "this teaching," what specifically does "this teaching" refer to?

But my question is this: when it says if someone comes to you and doesn't bring "this teaching," what specifically does "this teaching" refer to? Is it "the Truth" as a whole? Or the teaching of the Christ and his ransom?
What I've always believed and been taught is that any person who formally leaves Jehovah's organization, whether DF'd or DA'd, has this scripture is applied to them. They are viewed as not remaining in "the teaching," as apostates, and are not spoken to.
But what if the person voluntarily DA's? What if that person has NOT committed a gross sin? If "the teaching" in the scriptures refers to that of the Christ and his ransom, and the DA'd one still accepts that teaching, is there still a scriptural basis to shun them?
I plan to read over the info in the Reasoning book again and do more research. But was curious if others have researched into this and/or what they've found out.
has anyone ever written to the society, with evidence of misquotes, and asked them for an explanation of this?
or has anyone ever written and asked them why they quote and don't give the source of the quote?
if i did this, do you think i would get into trouble in the congregation, etc.?
I'll have to give long, serious thought to all of this. Thanks, everyone.

Jan H,
I'd like to see that letter if it's still available and you don't mind.

You Know,
I understand what you are saying about even Jehovah's organization making mistakes and stumbling blocks coming up, etc. But if I adopt that "waiting" attitude, leaving it to Jah to take care of the problems, it still creates a difficulty in field service.
I mean, how can I continue going out and inviting others to come into the organization when I see some very serious stumbling blocks inside it? I mean, using the logic, "All human organizations are imperfect, there's bad things going on in every religion, but the Witnesses have less bad than the others" isn't going to fly, is it?
Also, I'm not sure how Jehovah wants us to handle these mistakes going on in the organization. The Bible is full of examples, both of those who chose to ENDURE and WAIT on Jehovah to correct matters (David, who wouldn't strike out against Saul), and those who SPOKE UP about wrongdoing (counseling David for taking Bathsheba and killing her husband).
So it's not so black and white, trying to determine how to handle it.

Anchor, are you still in the organization?
i read your message, as well as the messages from the others.
i will give all of the comments i received thoughtful and prayerful consideration.
including yours.. however, i think maybe you didn't read my postings carefully enough before responding.
You Know,
It has been a few days. Still no answer to my question. Are you going to respond to it?

It shouldn't be wrong to ask a question or want some proof, since the scriptures tell us to make sure, as the Boreans did, that what we are told is "really so." I'm just thinking about writing and asking about this matter, and wondering if anyone else has done this and/or what the response was.
