  WT Mar 15th 2012 - 144,000 no longer a literal number?

  reading idly through this magazine , i read the study article "rejoicing in our hope" which discusses the two "hopes" according to the wtbts ie heaven & earth.. a couple of points were of interest:.

  (1) absolutely no mention at all of the 144,000 or rev 14. usually an article like this would be filled with references , but it isn't even mentioned.

  it does discuss the "limited number" , but only in contrast with the "no man can number" great crowd.. (2) a much more laid back attitude towards the two hopes.

  I have always expected them to change this in the near future and say that it is "symbolic" of a "finite, and limited number which could be millions, but still be a little flock compared to the OS." They would then perpetuate the 2 classes doctrine indefinately and always have a resevoir of "anointed" brothers to pick the next generation of GB members.

  Has disproving the "Truth" become an obsession for you at times?

  i was curious if anyone else has gone through a similar experience.. when i became inactive 4 years ago, i went through a period of not being able to focus on just about anything, other than doing tremendous amounts of research to prove to myself what my beliefs were, and to clearly identify my issues with the jw organization.

  i was mad - and i was on a mission to build the ultimate case against the wt.

  however, having read the fine advice on here, i backed off with my family, since it would have just gotten ugly.. i avoided posting on here for years, and had cut down my research and put it on the back burner.. however, i still felt a need to "witness" to my family and to have an open discussion with my wife.

  You can't fill a glass that is already full. When someone is already right in their own eyes it isn't worth the time to argue because nothing you ever say will be right to them. Others are too frightened by the idea that the organization could ever be *gasp* wrong about being God's Channel. If you value relationships on the inside, best just to be subtle like, "Wonder how many times they're going to redefine the word 'generation'?" or, "Wow! That new understanding seems like they're really streching it."

  Interesting Jesus cults

  larsinger and his posts got me to thinking about others that believe/believed that they are/were jesus.

  i started looking up a ton of info and stumbled across some pretty interesting cults.

  i just wanted to create a thread to talk about or post videos, links, or articles about modern day cults that you have found interesting.
