Merci for the compilation Terry. Surely, not a single JW would know the half of that.

Trivia about the history of the beloved Governing Body
by Terry inthe very first legal governing body of (jehovah's witnesses) bible students were seven persons which included pastor c.t.russell, his wife maria, and his controversial ward, rose ball.. five men and two women.
these seven persons were also the directors of the watchtower bible and tract society.
this group set policies and practices for the rest of the religious followers of pastor russell.

Moving out, away and starting a new post JW life
by OneDayillBeFree inrecently at my last meeting, an older brother "in good standing" got disfellowshipped.. sitting only two seats away from him, i saw as he burst into tears as lifelong friends and family began their shunning and immediate gossip in the form of whispers came up from above the brothers and sisters in the kingdom hall.
i felt like giving him a hug and telling him that it was going to be okay and that whatever the reason for his disfellowshipment was, it didnt matter and that god still loved him but before i could muscle up enough courage to do so, he stood up in tears and left.. i shed a few silent tears for him.
i didn't see anyone else do the same.. it was at that moment that i realized without a doubt that living this way is just not worth it at all.. so i've thought about it long and hard and now i just want to move far away and just start new again.

Reminds me of a sister who was disfellowshipped but used to come to the meetings regularly. My parents who have kind souls (however into the borg they are) would pick her up. Mum used to give her sad smiles every so often but although I knew she wanted to do more you know what the borg is like about that.
She was disfellowshipped for adultery. Her husband was some sort of jackass who first of all used to eye every post-pubescent girl in the cong leeringly, and also obviously treated his family like shyte. I hated him froom the moment they moved into our area.
Anyway I didn't talk to this sister much before the thing happened but after it my heart went out to her each time I saw her come into the meeting, sit in the back and quietly try to leave before it ended. Once I ended up sitting next to her by chance. It was hurtful that we could happily converse with others while she had to sit like she didn't exist between us all. (During the breaks)
Feeling as terrible as possible, although this made me dub-guilty I scribbled a note in the corner of my copy saying that J loved her no matter what and that everything would be okay.. and held her hand during the prayer (I hope everyone's eyes were closed!) passing the note on. She cried when she left, and I did too.
One of the prime things that made me question the "truth" that was.

sorry joe134cd, I couldn't be of much help. I might be able to do some investigating with those that I know that are still in but don't wanna raise eyebrows. I'll be discreet and if I come to anything, you guys will know.

I've heard of this incident but am unsure of the details. About 3, 4 years ago there was a lot of whispered talks going around about how allegedly so many strong spiritual ones at the bangl/lonavla bethel fell from thr "truth". Apparently it was said that they had problems with the society changing teachings on dates time and again. I can verify that heavies from Brooklyn promptly arrived for a cleanup.
Those that related it shook their heads and said in despair "how much more should we be steadfast, how much more strong should we stand".

The only thing a JW needs to know to be set free from their religion
by yadda yadda 2 inbillions of human beings right now are muslims, hindus, buddhists, etc, etc.

When Guy Pierce was visiting our cong, I happened to be at one of the AP meetings he presided over. Everybody was fawning all over him when someone raised the very same question (I lived in a predominantly muslim country where we've been warned against talking to the local population)
He said something like Noah didn't question what would happen to people before he got onto that ark. He did what he had to do then he left. Noah set the pattern for us.
Everyone oohed and aahed and that was the end of that.

Off to the Doctor.
by LouBelle inin a couple of hours i'm going to the doctor - an intervention.
i don't want to be a burdon to my mother, she has her own life to lead with her own responsibilities.
i've always been able to take care of everything for myself.

Get better Loubelle, I love how most folks in JWN look out for each other. You're special in many's hearts obviously. Get better soon.

by OneDayillBeFree ini could be wrong, but i can't help but be a bit optimistic.last night my parents and i had our "family worship night".
i hate it, and i believe my mother does too.
my dad only does it because he's an elder but last night even he was acting like he didnt want to do it.

THAT was an amazing read! I want to take ideas off the way you worked this through and see what I get!
PS: reminds me of a time say 3-4 years ago when I was still "IN" more or less, and was reading that book that was just released then. Can't remember the name but it was something like "Proclaimers", but I might be wrong - it had a cover picture of 1st century men kneeling and looking toward the sky, the color scheme was different shades of brown. I suddenly blurted to mum who was sitting across on the other couch saying "Did you know that there were no worshippers of God since the end of the 1st century till the CT Russell came around?"
Mum said: "Of course there were worshippers of God throughout history"
Then I say but I just read this out of the new book.
She says "oh". Pauses for a moment and then says she didn't know.
Mum's a hardcore who's AP'd RP'd and everything P'd forever. She'd give her life for the cong.
If I ever have a situation like that I'd think of probably maneuvering it like the OP. Such good knack he has, bless u!
