Hey puff, I must say that I do feel bad for your mom. She seems like a product of not having the benefit of a college education. On the other hand, all I have to say is be patient. I never thought that I would see the day where my parents, (my dad a former PO, and my mom a typical subservient dubba wife) would see the light. Just be patient and play their game where you slip things and make little comments every now and then... things'll work out...

Dateline discussed openly in our congregation
by TheMatrix inyesterday, the presiding overseer (elder h) read the letter from the christian congregation of jehovahs witnesses (us branch) regarding their policy on child abuse.
all scriptures were also looked up and read.. elder h is a very prepared brother.
he is a gilead graduate and served as a missionary for about 7 years in kenya before coming home because of illness.

anyways, this thread epitomized a thread I started a few weeks back. I've begun to realize that ex-jw's can be just as demeaning, overbearing, ignorant, arrogant, self-assuming, self-righteous and close-minded as those still in the borg. when ex's talk like that, (crawdad, i'm sorry to say you were one of them, and before you start, I'm not specifically applying those adjectives to you) it takes away from their message. I must applaud bonovox, (while there were a couple points i had a problem with-can't remember them now, sorry), you did bring something constructive to this board, and you did make a convincing argument regarding the borg and the potential for change, as well as statements about hating an organization that ostracized us.
what i'm trying to say is that all to often i see statements in defense of the borg and all the ex's simply shouting out 'fuck you you fucking liar'and that's it.(pardon my french)
don't get me wrong, change is long overdue for the borg. but when others make a valid attempt at helping the situation by airing a logical, and reasonable point of view, I think it's deconstructive to blast him for it.

"We didn't realize the long term effects"? - seems like common sense should take over here. Why would you need a phsychologist to tell you the long term effects? It makes sense in a way, seeing as common sense is what they lack.
I somehow sense this spin control will backfire. I think if you let her talk long enough it will make anyone watching realize the stupidity in her reasoning.
Someone said (I forget who, please forgive me) 'they must be getting dumber'. Well, if you have an organization that perpetuates itself on people sans a college education, that's what you get.
As far as the 'brethren' on the other side of the pond reopening sex abuse cases, I wonder if the big boyz in the borg will scold them for this. Could prove interesting.
