It boggles my mind that rational truth-seeking people can leave the JWs but retain Christian Bible beliefs. If you maintain the basis of the Biblical Christian paradigm, then JWs continue to have THE most rational and thorough approach to a Biblically cogent story line. This is why they can use that "To who else would we go to?" argument to such great effect. They feel like they have a monopoly on the rational and honest approach to the Bible story. I mean, if you think JWs have problems keeping a logical story running, then don't even try other Christian story-lines (faiths).
I would love to see a diagram of how far back they dug and then the logical steps from those precepts to their conclusions (eg Weslyn faith).

Anyone remember the old Beliefnet Poster - Apologist?
by TheListener inseveral years ago on beliefnet there was a jw apologist named "apologist".
he was very well written and defended the dubs very well.
he had several debates with auld soul and others on beliefnet which were fun to read.. i recently found out that the poster "apologist" is no longer a witness and does not consider them to have the "truth".

That is just an incredibly specific topic. Why such a tight focus?

Greg Stafford has suffered from the same malady that others who have left the Watchtower have experienced. He is not able to make things happen, he is not able to make a substitute religion for the JWs.
Pelicanbeach, your comment seems spot on. Stafford is about 150 years too late if he wants to make religious waves. Russell and the Watchtower were a product of very special times. There was a ton of wild religious stuff going on in their area (NE United States, Pennsylvania especially) and Russell/Rutherford just made the shrewdest moves (as did the LDS folks) and so they survived.
I say that because a few years back I took a history course and the teacher had us read "Occult America" front to back. This book covers the zanier historically religious climate during the 1700 - 1800s (no it does not comment on the JWs or LDS, but it explains what flew back then). Understanding why Mormonism and Russelism/Watchtower were able to take root back then became much easier to grasp. It was a special time in the USA. These religions would NEVER be able to take root in our modern religous/scientific climate. -

How the WT would look if written in 1st person: SO DISGUSTING
by Antioch inhow would the watchtower of july 15th read if the watchtower was written in 1st person from the ones allegedly preparing an dispensing spiritual food (ie the watchtower)?
why is it written by a faceless 3rd person telling readers what to think about the people who are allegedly dispensing the very material i'm reading?
i was reading the july 15th article and laughed at the ridiculousness of it all.. .

I'm happy this was helpful to some! So much of WT power comes from their mastery of wording and doublespeak that muddles up the real situation.

I really wish I had the cajones back in July to attend a meeting and say this. I can hear it in my head:
Conductor: "Yes, brother in the back ... what is your name?"
Me: "Smith, brother Smith. Yes, I was just noticing how we know who the 8 brothers are who comprise the composite slave today. So really, what this article is saying is that we all must daily display our determination to support Sam, Geoff, Gerrit, Tony, Guy, Mark, David and Stephen. And we really should. Those 8 men are who we depend on for our successful lives now and our lives in the future really."
.... silence ensues ...

Who ARE the current JW "scholars"? I remember Hal Fleming, and Rolf Furuli. Is there anyone else out there anymore who claim an academic rigor while supporting GB conclusions?

A life needs to be built. Granted, when you're born, you are supposed to be given a starter relationship kit. A family. You inherit the friends and family they give you.
But once you lose that (in a car wreck, by moving, by being an ex-jw, an ex-mormon, an ex-muslim, or whatever), you have to be strong and go out and build a new set of friends, family, and life. It is hard, scary, and takes effort. You CAN do it. Keep being the friend you are seeking. Make wise decisions. Make the most of the life you can.

It could be even taken a step further. The apostle Paul wrote in 1st person. Imagine if one of the eight up their wrote their spiritual food to us? Here are some examples:
"We, the eight here at headquarters, Sam, Geoff, Gerrit, Tony, Guy, Mark, David and I, are thus charged with the responsibility to manage you all, the household of faith."OR
" Similarly, as stated at Matthew 24:47, he promised that a small group of men – currently Sam, Geoff, Gerrit, Tony, Guy, Mark, David and myself – will be appointed over all his belongings. In reality, all of the 144,000 will share his vast heavenly authority."
OR finally" You all must be determined to show your appreciation by giving your loyal support to Sam, Geoff, Gerrit, Tony, Guy, Mark, David and myself. – Heb. 13:7, 17"
