  i was asked to give final prayer today after the field service meeting.

  i asked for jah to bless and comfort the families of the newtown, ct massacre.

  That's quite shocking and disheartening. Although I disagree strongly with the elders' sentiments...I think it's quite a bit of a hasty generalization to conclude that this is a common exhibition of the cult mentality within the R&F JW population. On the contrary, I don't recall any outlandish statements of this magnitude/subject regarding the "do's and dont's" of prayer. I'm also quite sure there are several commentaries in the Watchtower publications regarding why we should pray for God's Kingdom to come (i.e. the sufferings and cruelties experienced by humanity as a whole) which indicates, at least in a general sense, encouragement to show concern of affliction experienced by non-JWs in prayer.

  But perhaps there is a publication that contradicts my viewpoint? If so...I will definitely retract this.

  i just wanted to give an overall apology regarding how i was speaking to people on friday.

  but the shooting really shook me up.

  i think i said some things that were offensive to people, and even if my words were not offensive, the way i expressed myself was.

  I've followed your recent posts with interest CA...and I note a tone of sincerity and an honest endeavor to defend your position as someone who believes wholeheartedly in God. It's quite an admirable stance; one that often requires being the "butt" of the jokes made by the overwhelmingly atheist/agnostic population here. I think that's quite respectable...as anyone could compromise their intellectual integrity JUST to appease the dissenting du jour (especially on boards like these). Apology accepted and your humility is refreshing and appreciated!

  I'd like to reiterate that my statement wasn't attacking, belittling, or denouncing the rationality/the arguments presented therein. I was simply trying to present a contrast between what I expected (JW-related discussions/debates) vs. what I saw (meticulous arguments surrounding the definitions of words like creationist, atheist, etc.) and a plethora of related subjects. I'm sorry if it came across that way.

  I can't imagine how I can offer my opinions, perceptions, or arguments if a description like this is perceived as an attack or an insult?

  My apologies. I did not mean it as an insult. Im just describing what I see a lot of threads become (i.e. arguing over the morphology of words and a lot of back and forth about what this means and what it doesnt). The most popular recent JW-centered thread was about 607 so I guess I should start there, eh?

  Yeah, I received an email ~ a month ago asking JW's to sign up here. Then I get another telling me not to since I would probably be banned like all the other JWs.

Just of curiousity: what on earth has happened to this board? I dont really see any substantial topics on JWs, mostly semantic gymnastics regarding atheism and creation. So should I tryto contribute here or is this not the place for JW discussions? (i.e. ban of thirdwitness, djeggnog?, Recovery, etc?)
