I met the guy, David Winder, who was thrown through the roof - he was giving the public talk at the time. He and his wife are both really nice. David still walks with a little bit of a limp, but you might not notice unless someone told you. I think they were pretty sure the guy who planted the bomb was an unbelieving husband of one of the sisters in the congregation, but they couldn't prove it for some reason.
The account is in the 22 November 1985 Awake page 9, and the 1 August 1992 Awake page 9.

I'm in, and having a hard time biting my tongue sometimes
by noonehome ini spend allot of time with other young witnesses my age, and am very close to a few of these friends.
my question is, is there any way to safely talk about doubts?
for instance, i've been learning allot about evolution and the science behind the flood (or lack thereof).

Sounds very much like me. The more you wake up, the more that the stuff you hear from platform sounds crazier and crazier (because it is). Many JWs probably have the same doubts but the cult mentality stops it going any further and acting on it. They might secretly agree, and yet still rat you out to the elders - they don't think twice about the hypocrisy of it. It's all smiles at the KH, but the first chance they get they will throw you under the bus and pat themselves on the back for doing it too. They've done it to people in the org much higher up - even the latest new-lightâ„¢ takes a big dump on their founder Charlie Russell, so they won't think twice about a doubting publisher.
I agree that talking about it in the third person is a good strategy like billy says. But don't kid yourself that you are going to wake people up - many people are just too far in. Getting yourself out in one piece will be enough work.

Horrible day
by 88JM ini just had to come on here and vent - i'm having a horrible day.. firstly, had to sit through a horrible public talk about obedience to the "superior authorities" (whoever they decide that is this week) - all kinds of crazy stuff taking verses in romans way out of context.. then had to sit through that hideous watchtower defending david.
one brother actually used the words "we want to follow in david's footsteps" - i was nearly ready to vomit.
just a total gloss-over.

cedars - you're right I'm sure, and I'm not one to volunteer information anyway, especially about myself. And yes, their opinions are absolutely worthless to me - the sort of people who are going to hold a murder and adulterer as an example.
I'm hoping for the pre-emptive shunning to get into full swing soon - it will make it all the more easier to fade.

Thanks for your support guys - this is exactly why I signed up.
wasblind - thanks for the tip - I always forget the reasoning book is so out of date now.
tornapart - that's a good suggestion I hadn't thought of.
Think About It - I'm so glad I do know what I know - it is so refreshing to not feel trapped mentally, at least.
Cedars - yeah, that would feel really bad having invited someone into your home. Why do they think they are entitled to do that when your position is pretty clear?
cantleave - Thanks for the help - I think I'm coping, but such offers may be a lifeline one day.

cantleave - I'm in the north of Scotland. I would love to DA, but my parents would most certainly kick me out of the house. I'm trying to find a place of my own, but it's not easy in these parts.

Welcome Jonno - really interesting to hear how you started with 607 - feels like starting at the deep end, but it's a big one that destroys all their credibility in one swoop.

I can't imagine how painful that is. Anyone can see you love your kids, and I would be doing the same thing as well, trying to get them out of this crazy cult.
