Surveillance and Watchtower
by Marvin Shilmer insurveillance and watchtower .
today i added a new article to my blog documenting the watchtower organizations longstanding and prevalent use of surveillance to police and enforce its policies among jehovahs witnesses.
current watchtower strategy is to direct this surveillance be performed by its local appointed representatives but without sharing the same policy information with jehovahs witnesses.

"there wasn't one candidate for baptism."
Did they bother doing the 2 questions to the non-existant candidates? That would seem even more absurd if so.
I can certainly see this happening at our circuit assembly sometime in the future.

What argument is there for a single God?
by Qcmbr inmormon culture is replete with the concept of multiple gods and requires it to work.
other than a few biblical references does anyone have any compelling arguments for why any god, deist , creationist or full on personal god would - of necessity- be alone.
the argument seems somewhat weaker if the gender is applied as well.

"If you were a car, what car would you be?"
I said: "a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution (7)" (I was into rally driving on my playstation at that time)
I got the job and I've worked for the company for the last 6 years.
Not sure what the laws are in the U.S., but here in the U.K. there are quite strict discrimination rules particularly around what sort of questions you are not allowed to ask - i.e. are you gay, smoke, religion, age etc. Hence the more unusual questions like the one I got.

He may be reading in a language for which there is no NWT, in which case he will be using a different translation. If this is a Pacific-island assembly where Mark Sanderson served, then it seems a distinct possiblity with there being so many different languages in that part of the world.
Or another possibility is that he may be like many who have a "friend" at the bindery at Bethel and got them to do a custom binding of their NWT (monogramed usually). You see it more and more these days - a custom bound NWT is like a JW status symbol.
Even Mark Sanderson's bible looks like a custom black leather-bound reference bible (normally they are dark-brown hard-back)

These figures were mentioned at the 2012 District Convention. Unless the speaker got it wrong himself, it seemed pretty clear that he was talking about 2012, not 2011. No I've not seen it in print either. The 30-hour special allowance was repeated again this year like it was last year. From my own experience, many fewer people auxilliary pioneered the same as the year before, but it was still a large proportion.
He did mention the total worldwide figure was not "final", but it seems precise enough to be more than in the ballpark.

JWs in the UK: 27 years of yearbook stats and stagnation
by 88JM inokay, so i went on a bit of a statistics binge after looking at poland.
i thought i would have a look at my home country's yearbook stats here in the uk (britain).. so here they are for your consideration.
had to go into the loft for some of the older yearbooks, and found some other older publications too.. nothing too remarkable as such here, as far as i can see, apart from:.

Just came across some stats in my old notes from district conventions and elders and ministerial meetings.
These were figures at the 2012 District Convention regarding the "special" 30 hour allowance for auxilliary pioneering:
For the reduced allowance, according to my District Convention notes where they gave the figures near the end of the last day:
- 2,853,824 auxilliary pioneered worldwide for that month
- 58,635 of these were in the U.K.
- 3,323,702 hours were reported that month in the U.K. (164,381 in Ireland)
- 71% of Bethelites pioneered that month
Other statistics I came across in notes from an elders and ministerial servants meeting in late 2011:
- 79 circuits in the U.K.
- 12,675 elders in the U.K.
- 9,646 ministerial servants in the U.K.

tiki - their recent magazines are certainly cautionary about social networks at the very least, but I get the feeling they've given up on trying to get people to stay away from it altogether (they were so late to the game on that one anyway - people had already been using it for ages).
However, if you attend anything like an Elders and Ministerial Servants meeting, the tone of warning changes to being much stronger, basically that if you are on Facebook you will lose your "privileges" (an exception obviously is made for spying Elders).
