hey folks!
Any Ex-JWs in the seattle area? I'm thinking about moving up there. Got the opportunity to do some programming work for a friend's business and he offered me a place to stay and a job. Is there a community of ex-dubs up there that meet up, apostafest style?

I'd love for the dubs to call on me. I'd even think about starting a fake study. Question the hell out of everything they say. They wouldn't abandon a potent new dub, would they? Maybe every day, bring up a new question and see how long it will take for them to crack. Perhaps, discuss evolution and have them bring out their ole blue book, then I can do some research on their book and show them all the misquotes in their book. Could be fun

Do humans have free will?
by Realist in.
hello everyone,.
i would like to know who of you thinks that humans have a free will and who thinks humans do rather work like a very complex computer.. in my opinion free will is an illusion generated by our brain....what do you think?.
-
truthseeker1
If Free will doesn't exist, could we predict the future? If there was a sophistacated enough computer that was able to determine all events (natural disasters, etc) and had all of the people's thought patterns in a database would it be able to decide what we will do and then what the outcome will be? We could plan out the entire future of the human race, since it is just a bunch of predisposed reactions to events. Once we have all the variables of nature known and can predict weather, geological actions, etc. and we know how all people will react to such events, there would be no surprises.
Like Murder for example:Lets say some dude is going to commit a murder. We are told that we are going to. But once we are forwarned about the murder, can we choose not to do it? but now that we are forwarned, and we choose not to do it, that computer would know that we would choose not to do it, so It wouldn't forwarn us, but then we could still do it, because the only reason why we didn't do it was that we were forwarned, so we would do it, but then we would be forwarned about doing it....WOAH!!! too much thinking...

I have a 2002 Nissan Frontier. Not sure why I chose it, I was never really a truck person. My 91 VW Fox (was my ex's car, I'd never buy a VW for myself) busted on me and I Needed something quick. I was for a good price for a new truck. I had it for a year and I do enjoy it. Very comfortable and I've taken it all over CA. I wish it had more fancy things though, its pretty standard.
The next car I'm going to buy (probably lease cuz I go through cars too much) is going to be that Lexus IS300
Its a nice piece of equipment. I'll drop a turbocharger in it and have a lot of fun. Unless Chevy releases that twin-turbo trailblazer *Drool*
I've been waiting for the Evo VII to come out over here in the states, but I'm afraid they'll mod it so bad it will be a POS by the time its sellable over here.

Need Help Badly!
by mackey ini have a very dear friend who is a jw and i am trying to find a way to open her eyes and make her aware of the bulls**t they spew as "truth".
i can sense a hint of doubt in her, but cannot openly talk with her about it.
i gave her a copy of cofc, but she didn't read it and now she doesn't trust me.i need to find a way to open her eyes or at least get her thinking without actually mentioning her beliefs.she made a couple of comments that have stuck with me.

I'll tell you what I told my ex-wife that made her question the dubs. When I decided to leave, I spewed all the things I thought that were wrong, but most she excused away. The only thing that stuck and actually planted seeds of doubt in her head had to do with control. She always felt like an independant person, so I guess its no surprise.
Every time she mentioned anything about doing things she wanted but couldn't, I asked her why she couldn't. Because I can't was her answer all the time. I asked her if its because she would get in trouble with the elders, and she responded yes. I just laughed and said you are 22 years old, you cant get in trouble(Unless its illegal). They can't kick you out of the house or anything. There is nothing scriptually wrong with it, why are you going to let some people tell you what you can and can't do when they have nothing to do with your life. (Just 1 example of the things I said, but all along the same lines)
Well, I didn't change what she believes, but I helped her see the WTS as who they are. She doesn't see them as the Mother Org that is the only true religion. Where ever she goes in life, I know she won't be in the clutches of the Borg and it makes me feel good.
I guess what I'm saying is use the techniques of persuasion they teach you to say at the door. Find something that interests them or is a concern for them and let them see the truth about that facet of the Borg. She was independant, so I showed her that she was being controlled.
Thanks

Origins of SHOCK AND AWE
by chachasmum inthe basis of hitler's blitzkrieg, march 14, 2003 .
reviewer: a reader from langley, va, united states shock and awe were the foundational concepts put forth by hitler's military leaders as a new and lethal way of rapidly overwhelming opponents.
setting aside considerations of the violence visited on civilians and non-combatants or the damage done to infrastructure, hitler suggested that inducing "shock and awe" through his "lightning war" system would lead to rapid military victories.

The majority of the German Soldiers were good. I was speaking with my mom and Aunt (from Norway) and they were telling me about WWII when the Nazi's occupied Norway. My grandfather was a butcher at the time and he worked in a slaughter house. The normal soldiers always let him take meats home, free of charge. But they warned, if the SS came in for an inspection they could do nothing. They would give him Lots of food for his family/friends. Well, one time he was taking a couple of sausages home and the SS did one of their inspections. He had one in his bike and another he stuck inside his shirt. The SS asked one of the German soldiers to check the bike and he came back and said there was nothing in there,(he lied to my gramps wouldn't get killed) and the regular soldiers patted him down and lied about the sausage in his shirt.
This is just one example, but the SS and normal soldiers were different kinds of people.

Hitler shaved his beard and also had a mustache, does that mean we can't shave our beards or grow a mustache?
Or more in line with your arguement, he developed a free way system to rapidly transport troops and (I believe) developed the first Jet propelled plane. Does this me we shouldn't use jet engines on planes or transport troops on freeways?

The only example of how the witnesses will distribute homes/accomidations is the district conventions. The elders who organize it will get first dibs (the know the date first and can make the call to reserve the best hotels). Then the rest will be first come, first serve. All the good homes will already be taken. There won't be any elderly people or sick, so single people who don't have to lug around kids will then get the next best homes, and finally the people with kids will probably get the homes next the the piles of burning bodies, kept awake by the constant bird chirping....
Like the rest of you, this story made me sick...
