When my children were little, I always felt the conventions were designed to help parents cope with persecution. To me, being put in prison would have been preferable than trying to force small children to sit quiet all day.

by The wanderer in<!-- .style1 { font-family: verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; } .style3 { font-family: arial; font-size: 20px; color: #000066; } .style4 { font-family: arial; font-size: 16px; color: #000066; } --> the mystery behind the conventions and assembliesin the organization, the idea behind the conventions was to unite gods people under one roof.. .
looking back and knowing it is not gods organization raises.
a few questions about the conventions and assemblies.. what was the real motivation behind the conventions?did the watchtower hold conventions to show the world god has a united people?.

Changing your diet - meat, dairy, sugar
by Pleasuredome ini have just finished reading 'confessions of a kamikaze cowboy' by dirk benedict.
in the book he talks about how 'macrobiotics' (exclusion of meat, sugar, dairy among others) helped improve his health and fight cancer.
a lot of what he says about food resonates with me, so im curious.

Last January, my co-worker and I went on a vegetarian diet. I never felt better. But I live with a bunch of carnivores so if I tried to make a vegetarian meal, I caught so much grief that I finally gave in to the carnivore lifestyle again. However, I am thinking about giving it another go. Meanwhile, I read a really good book called, "Mastering Leptin" and have lost 20 pounds (what I needed to lose) just by changing when I eat as opposed to what I eat. My goal for February is to give up red meat and coffee.

Personal Truths
by searching4truth ini have been doing alot of soul searching lately.
having been raised as a dub and my entire world focused on that existence i seem to be a bit lost as to who i am.
everything my life was based on was a lie, so that being the case i find myself having to toss all my former philosophies aside and start from scratch.

It is difficult at first but it does get easier and easier with each passing day. I love to read so for me reading different (previously forbidden) books, i.e. "Crisis of Conscience", "In Search of Christian Freedom" was a tremendous help. Someone else on this board recently recommended "The Four Agreements" and I am really enjoying that one right now. I still have a lot of family members in the Cult so I have to pretend when I am around them or talking to them on the phone that I still believe the lies but I am to the point right now that if they find out my true feelings, so be it.

I think they come up with these tract campaigns to give the dubs a break from the (ab)normal routine of trying to start doorstep bible studies. The dubs get some relief by just going up to the door and handing the person a tract, no conversing with them.

Hi OnTheWayOut, You are going through with what my husband went through for a few years. It took me longer to come around but I had the same feelings as your wife. The WTS demonizes anyone that is not a JW, convinces you that if you leave "the truth" you will immediately go out and lead a wicked life. Your approach with her is excellent, keep dropping tidbits along the way. For me, the final nail in the coffin was the UN thing, I felt like if they lied about that, what else did they lie about.

Glad to hear you are moving on. We did the same thing and it was honestly the best thing we ever did. You can really start your life over again with no religious baggage. Don't worry about the KH. They will probably only work your area once or twice a year. You could just flat out tell them that you use to be witnesses but saw the light, they will probably mark you down as a "do not call." I have a friend that moved from Florida to Montreal and he loves it there. Good luck to you.
