I remember back in the 80s people would give the drivers a dollar each. Now, people won't want to drive or will be asking for money.

People say that the problem is guns.
I've never heard of anyone shooting up an animal shelter.
It's not the guns, it's the targets.

Can you list the positive points of being a JW as against the negative points of being a JW in your experience ?
by smiddy3 ini was a twenty y/old when i converted to the jw religion and was a problem drinker and i was a chain smoker .when i was baptized at a circuit assembly a year later , my conversion and change in lifestyle was given as an example of the effectiveness of incidental witnessing to the audience.. so i can point to the 2 positives becoming a jw .. 1.i gave up smoking.
2.i gave up drinking for a while ,but because i still had association with my wife`s and my family who were not jw`s ,i learnt to control my social drinking when i started again.. and i have been a responsible drinker ever since ,even though i left the religion 29 years ago.. the negative points of being a jw in my 32 years of being one ?
are far too great to list here .. love to hear your thoughts..

A good thing: Not being a follower of the world in as politics and holidays and religion in general.
And I learned roofing during the quick build times and how to do study and public speaking.

Simple Question Re 1914
by Slidin Fast inwt claims that satan was thrown out of heaven in october 1914 precipitating ww!
and the end times.
a small problem with that is ww1 started on july 28th 1914 whilst satan was still in heaven picking his nose.. how did we not see this and waste years of precious life?

We don't know exactly when the war in heaven started. While Russell looked to October but that can not be exactly pinpointed.
Everyone get tripped on months and days.

Does anyone have a photo copy they can share of a TMS topic?
by jojorabbit ini am looking for a tms that was published in the early 70s that said many have sold homes to go where the need was great, this is a fine way to spend ones time in the last days.
i am trying to remember how it was said to the best of my knowledge but this is close.

If they sold their homes and property to finish the system in pioneer service, where would they live?
How does selling their homes help anything?
That's the issue that is not being considered.

Pimo's walking out
by Foolednomore inis it possible that jw's would get so worn out by watchtower 's bullshit that they would stand up gather their stuff and walk out of a meeting or a convention.

Generally field service on Saturdays publishers met with their book studies. When the CO came everyone met at the Hall. Then after the meeting for service he told everyone to find their book study conductors and be assigned to a group. The point of everyone meeting at the Kingdom hall is to have a bigger group to work with and not work with the same ones we always did. The COs just got lazy and didn't want to do the work of making car groups for a whole congregation.
I didn't meet with the book study conductor and just left. People saw me there so I could say I was out in service. Afterall, that is all that matters.

Congregation in PA sues over mandatory reporting
by Corney inivy hill congregation of jehovah's witnesses is currently suing the pa department of human services.
it requests "a declaration that its elders are entitled to" clergy privilege, or, in the alternative,.
to the extent that the clergyman privilege is determined to exclude its elders on the basis that they are "members of [a] religious organization[] in which members other than the leader thereof are deemed clergymen or ministers," the court declare the statute to be unconstitutional.

Blondie, I don't think it matters if a person confesses to one other or to a group.
The whole purpose of privilege is that if it is revealed beyond that, then people won't feel free to reveal anything embarassing or confidential of the past, so those people can't do their jobs properly. Privilege does not extend to planning future crimes.
Privilege extends to other Psychiatrists, doctors or lawyers, pastors anyone else within that "firm" or "practice" or religious entitity.

Does your organisation have a clergyman class?”
Answer ..No.Correct but JW church ministers are governed by Federal law that proscribes them from disclosing confidential communications under a spiritual setting.
That's because we've always hated the word 'clergy' and 'clergy class' because it elevates the elders to a job type rather tha
simply being spiritual shepherds.

They are privileged just like doctors and lawyers and any other religious clergy type of person.
People just don't like the word 'clergy'. But the act of confessing to the means that they can not reveal it to anyone.

Would a JW accused to be a murderer (in a judicial committee) be reported to the police?
by psyco ini am wondering if a jw accused to be a murderer (or any other serious crime except csa) in a judicial committee would be reported to the police.. if i sexually abused or molested a child, i would not be reported to the police.. what about if i killed a person: would i be instead?.
it is not a matter of being right or wrong but i am only curious to know if there is at least a sort of coherence regarding the internal policies for serious crimes....

If a person confessed to the elders, that would be privileged, and the elders can't report it.
If a person has evidence that someone else committed a crime, that one might go to the elders in an effort to keep the congregation clean because that person does not trust the outside world.
But the congregation should not be involved in such matters.
