  Why would God want/need worship from you?

  if there is a god, why would god want/need worship from you?.

  the only people who want to be worshipped or adored by the world tend to be mad dictators and film star etc.its a quality i've always hated the desire to have strangers love you even though they don't know you personnally, and i tend not to like people who look up to celebrities etc who they don't know.. so why would a god want your worship?

  That "inborn tendency" that so many refer to is not a need to worship. It's merely a desire to find the answers to some very hard questions. Where did we come from? Why are we here? What is going to happen in the future? For thousands of years, religious leaders have used this desire to confuse, scare and dominate the masses. I don't feel any inborn tendency to worship. Sorry. I don't even want to worship myself. Imagine that. I don't worship my belly. (never preached to anyone about the wonderful blessings that my belly gives me) I don't worship money. (I offer proof in the simple fact that I AM BROKE!)

  One inborn tendency that I did recognize it SEX. When I was a teenage witness, I used to ask myself over and over again.....If it's wrong for me to have sex before I get married and it's bad to get married at 15, WHY IS MY URGE TO HAVE SEX SO STRONG AT 15? That question was never answered to my satisfaction.

  I can't get scared of a god that doesn't do anything about Ted Bundy, Osama Bin Laden or Adolf Hitler. It seems very appropriate sometimes.

  Dude.....You really know how to throw a party! You not only have the food at the proper time but you have desert too! My spirit was moved..........Or maybe it was the room that was spinning. You have only the best people at your parties too. (Thanks for inviting me anyway) I still have this ringing in my ears that somehow sounds very similar to a roomfull of "Jezebels" screaming.   Religious freedom is being denied!

  i'm sure someone else has already thought of this but i wanted to see what discussion came from this.

  i was raised as a jw and left at the age of 35. i still do the dance to keep from being disfellowshiped so that i don't lose all contact with my family.

  the thought just came to me that as i went through my life my religious freedom was being denied by coersion.

  In my experience, people who have never been a JW rarely know about the shunning practices of JWs. How do you educate people outside the religion without a major news story like Jonestown or Heaven's Gate? I don't know about you but I really don't want to preach anymore!

  Sunshine,

  Be careful. My sister was just disfellowshipped even though she has not set foot in a Kingdom Hall in over 2 years. They had to try very hard just to find her since she moved to a differerent city.

  I understand that those who willingly join the JWs have effectively and legally given up thier legal and human rights except for the fact that they don't have full disclosure (good points). But for those born and raised as a JW...............They have never been given that choice. In my case, I didn't willingly join the religion. Yes, I was baptized at the age of 13 but I don't think that a person is fully capable of making such a decision at that age. I knew at a very early age that if I chose to live a life without the JWs that I would lose my family and friends. (I lost some very dear friends and a brother) This had a tremendous impact on my ability to freely choose what religion I would follow.

  If there were no consequences for associating with a disfellowshipped person then they could say that shunning was a personal choice. Since there are rules in place that severely penalize someone who does choose to live normally as a family with a disfellowshipped person then I would think that makes this an organizational penalty and not a religious one.

  The JWs have gone to great lengths to set up several corporations to protect themselves financially. It should be easy to prove that the decisions made in the local congregations must have the approval of the "home office". This means that the corporation responsible for the final decision could be guilty of the violation of human rights. Right?

The thought just came to me that as I went through my life my religious freedom was being denied by coersion. Even after I left home, I was constantly reminded that if I studied other religions that I would be expelled from the congregation and my family members who were JWs would not be allowed to even say a greeting to me.

  Would this qualify as a denial of my constitutional right to religious freedom? Isn't this a basic human right? Has anyone tried to address this in a courtroom? Does anyone else feel the same way?
