  we are free!.

  as of the 9th of june, me and my dear wife mrs. eden handed over our letters of disassociation at bethel in portugal, thus making official our departure from the jehovah's witnesses.

  Question--isn't attendance compulsory and jws are not exempt? From <<that link, I see nothing objectionable to jw beliefs. You just show up and they tell you all about being in the military? What am I missing?

  Attendance to the DDN is mandatory by law but one can be exempt of it by applying to conscientious objector status. All JW kids are compelled to apply for it. The drawback: You won't be able to hold a position as a public worker in the future. My son wasn't willing to jeopardize his future career, so he didn't apply. Thus it was considered a willful disassociation - even if it's not military service, just a 'sales pitch' from the military.

  WE ARE FREE!

  As of the 9th of June, me and my dear wife Mrs. Eden handed over our letters of disassociation at Bethel in Portugal, thus making official our departure from the Jehovah's Witnesses. It will likely be announced on the next mid-week meeting.

  As for our son, because he attended the National Defense Day on the 11th of March, in spite of a letter sent previously stating that his attendance was a matter of conscience and didn't imply his disconnection from the Jehovah's Witnesses (he has been inactive for nearly 3 years), he was forcibly disassociated last week. Just in time for his 19th birthday.

  We are thrilled.

  Soon I will post a translation of our disassociation letters, the story around it, and a picture of us as well.

  Just wanted to share the "good news" of my kingdom.

  this latest convention with the shunning and bunker videos shows the organisation getting more and more extreme and more cultish.. i think for the last few years they have wavered between the softer more mainstream, loving version of christianity (last year's jesus convention for example) and a harder line, there were even posters on here optimistically suggesting they might relax the shunning rules.

  whoever it is on the gb who has the harder stance has clearly won out (my guesses lett and morris!).

  i am sure i am not the only one breathing a sigh of relief, "phew, we got out in time".

  Any official ban on religious freedom is bad news for any civilized society. Even if the target is the JW organization. Unfortunately, it's the rank & file that get most of the woes. The Society had already protected its assets I'm sure.

  the claim has been made that the gb is the faithful and discreet slave.

  especially was this highlighted during the agm (when the silver bible was released).. but are they now saying that this "appointment" isn't happening until the "great tribulation"?.

  How can they be appointed to provide "food at the appropriate time" BEFORE they have proven to be faithful and discreet?; and yet, they are appointed over the Lord's goods AFTER they are deemed "faithful and discreet".

  Nonsense. It's just a frigging parable, not a prophecy.
