  I have a friend who was abused by an Elder in South Africa for years as a teenage girl. Her father who was also an Elder, was aware of her accusations and nothing was done. The only "justice" she got was that the bastard was later killed in a car accident, but until today she suffers chronic depression from it.

  Would that be a first? The case against Gonzalo Campos, in San Diego, CA:

  "Campos was a Jehovah’s Witness who sexually abused at least seven children in San Diego congregations in the ’80s and ’90s. During that time, Watchtower leaders knew Campos was abusing children but did not report him to law enforcement, according to testimony by congregation elders.   I pose no judgement except to say that her witness is absolutely consistent with thousands of other cases involving children abused in the context of the Jehovah's Witness religion and how the WT instructs the elders to deal with it. That being said, BEFORE she put it out in the open in a public forum, she should report the case to the judiciary authorities and seek legal counseling, because we are talking about serious criminal accusations against her father and serious signs of covering up by the WT. Her father appears to be one appaling case of a sick abuser narcissist invested and kept in an authority role by the WT.

  four years ago the watchtower made the following demand.

  all of us must be ready to obey any instructions we may receive, whether these appear sound from a strategic or human standpoint or not.

  they are not content with obedience and in the upcoming june watchtower they have this to say -15. how does respect for theocratic headship reveal our love for jehovah’s way of ruling?15 what is our response to divinely authorized headship?

  Dear Doubtful1799, thank you so much for posting your story. I can relate with it on so many levels. Especially this frustration: I consider myself a mildly intelligent person. Why on earth it took me until I turned 40 to wake up and get out? Why couldn't I see the con and the deception before, when it's so clear now? I still bang my head on the wall for that.

  This words of yours resonate deeply with me:

  I now realised I had been conned. I had believed in a lie. And the implications were devastating to say the least. I cried for days. For my lost hope of everlasting life. For the harsh reality of my mortality. For the years I’d wasted knocking on doors spreading false and erroneous teachings instead of living up to my potential. For all the damage I had inadvertently done, even though my intentions were good. And for all the family and friends I would potentially lose, who I would be unable to rescue. [...] Don’t get me wrong, I have had a good life, but I could have done so much more with it if I had known the real truth. I could have been a real help to people, not just pseudo help.

  ^^THIS. My feelings exactly. I had an uneventful youth, never really got into any problem, was a "good witness", made progress, was well-known and cherished even by the top hats in Bethel in my country. Married "in the truth", did everything right (except engaging in full-time pioneer service, that somehow never appealed to me).

  I got lucky, because after some dramatic turmoils, I managed to help my wife and son to leave the cult. We imagined we would be successful faders, but events regarding my son and military service had him disfellowshipped and me and wife da'd immediately after in formal protest. I am also lucky for my JW side of the family isn't shunning us; on my wife's side about half of the JW's aren't shunning us either. The other half, her sister included, shuns us. And yes, we have lost ALL of our JW friends. That has been the hardest part - rebuilding a network of friends and family with whom we may share common interests. It's been hard (harder for me than my wife, who is naturally a very sociable person; I tend to find it hard to cultivate friendships, as not many people share my set of interests, namely in music making ...), but we're rebuilding. It's getting better, slowly. The freedom is like nothing else: and yet, it's just NORMAL. It feels good to just be NORMAL and not a religious freak.

  a) I have stayed clear of smoking and drugs and never felt interest in getting wasted on alcohol.

  b) I've learned to speak in public and acquired some strategies to empathize with others.

  c) I have learned the rudiments of sales techniques.

  d) I have learned the value and the challenges of living in a community.

  That's about it.

  many of us have had the experience of trying to share our knowledge of the dark side of the watchtower with those we love, only to have it end badly with the person getting deeply upset and refusing to believe any of it.

  a new study might shed some light on the problem.

  this brain study looked at what happens when someone's belief system is challenged.

  the jehovah’s witnesses settled a lawsuit this week brought by a pennsylvania woman who says the religion’s leaders covered up sexual abuse she suffered as a teenager.. the settlement came five days into a trial in which stephanie fessler, a former jehovah’s witness, claimed the religion’s parent corporation violated pennsylvania’s child abuse reporting laws by instructing local leaders – known as elders – not to report her allegations to police.. according to fessler, a middle-aged jehovah’s witness woman, terry monheim, began sexually abusing her when she was 14. at 15, fessler disclosed the abuse to her parents.

  Simple fact remains:

  If the plaintiff didn't have a case, the Watchtower wouldn't make a settlement. It's an admission of - at least - partial responsibility, which stems from their official policies. Even if the parents ALSO failed to show due diligence.

  quick question because of a current writing project i have in hands .... if you live on staten island, what would be the assembly hall you would attend for a circuit assembly ?.

  another question: in 2014 were there still circuit assemblies?

  or had it been already narrowed down to special assembly days?.
