For me this is the end of a journey that started in late 2011 when a client of mine for the first time spiked my curiosity with a remark she made about sex child abuse scandals amongst the JW's. Fast forward 4,5 years: I managed to leave and help my family to come out of it, with the ups and downs that are known to this forum. I still want to help other family members to come out of this filthy cult. I'm working on it.

in the month of may 2016 i wrote my resignation letter and gave it to the elders in my congregation.

for those of you who don't know my story.
i had a messy divorce i lost custody of my son in 2011 age 9yrs after four years of court battles to get him back i couldn't do anymore.. yesterday my wonderful son had an upsetting day as our contact was cancelled.

robert ciranko has been a "helper" of the governing body in the writing department.. don adams (born 1925, presumably 91 years old now) has been president of the wtbts since 2000. .
however, in recent official posts (april 2016), robert ciranko is identified as "president of the watch tower".
does anybody know what happened and if this is an official change?.

However, in recent official posts (April 2016), Robert Ciranko is identified as "President of The Watch Tower". Does anybody know what happened and if this is an official change?

One month in advance, I wrote a 7-page letter to Bethel branch in Portugal (copies went to the CO and body of elders in the congregation) presenting solid bible and ethical arguments as to why attending the National Defense Day should be considered a matter of personal conscience decision for a christian, and making an anticipated declaration that by attending it my son wasn't in any way excising himself from the Jehovah's Witnesses.
... crickets ...
No reply at all. Only two elders coming to our house wanting to inform our son that he had been considered disassociated and offering "comfort from the scriptures". Hypocrites.
Some day I'll translate that letter into english and publish it here.

I'm immensely proud of him, I hope he realizes that. He's a very smart cookie. He saw at 15 what I could only see at 40.
He's studying psychology at university now, hoping to major in forensic psychology.

BW - Did you see that video on child abuse among the brothers and the denial that GB Splane told all the faithful there?
I saw it, and felt it should have gone even deeper; I don't know the real measure of the effect it had; but from personal experience I know many JW's saw it and were disturbed.

He was 11. Mostly he wanted to please his parents and grandmothers.

No, I started first to investigate TTATT around 2011; when I noticed that my son was experiencing discomfort with the JW system, i encouraged him to trail his own way and make his own decisions, and I would have his back, no matter what. Some time after this, he took his position before I did (at 16), by refusing to go to the meetings and FS anymore.

Question--isn't attendance compulsory and jws are not exempt? From <<that link, I see nothing objectionable to jw beliefs. You just show up and they tell you all about being in the military? What am I missing?
Attendance to the DDN is mandatory by law but one can be exempt of it by applying to conscientious objector status. All JW kids are compelled to apply for it. The drawback: You won't be able to hold a position as a public worker in the future. My son wasn't willing to jeopardize his future career, so he didn't apply. Thus it was considered a willful disassociation - even if it's not military service, just a 'sales pitch' from the military.
