July's watchtower leaves out some important info from a quote!
by stavro injerome over on discuss the truth has picked up on something interesting.. in the july watchtower on page 28 of the article entitled “winning the battle for your mind” the following statement is made “keep in mind that satan does not want you to think clearly or reason things out well.
because propaganda is likely to be most effective, says one source, if people… are discouraged from thinking critically.”.
the quote comes from a book entitled: “media and society in the twentieth century: a historical introduction by lyn gorman, david mclean" the watchtower however, chose to leave out a portion of the quote.. the full quote is "therefore, it is likely to be most effective if people do not have access to multiple sources of information and if they are discouraged from thinking critically.. the following sentence which the watchtower also decided was best not to include states,.

I would never live in America. Most of the Americans I've met, with the exception of Californians, are lovely, hospitable, down-to-earth, friendly people. Based on my personal experience with them that would be a plus factor in deciding. However, having no anti-gun laws, no NHS (state health service as a right) and having a horrendous tax system, those things would put me right off living in the USA. Sorry.

Totally ignoring the troll who started this post but the reactions of others are very interesting.
"The Searcher" (great US TV comedy program back in the 80s by the way) they are amazing questions and I agree with you totally. I'm an active JW and have nothing against most of my fellow witnesses. However, the great majority are in a bubble with their critical thinking stifled, especially as more and more emphasis is being placed on loyalty to the organisation and their literature.
It's such a relief and great satisfaction to just discuss doctrine based on the scriptures and not the interpretation of them by the WTS. Comparing other Bible translations is also a good way to get perspective on what we really believe.
Thanks again Searcher!

It's totally legit and the program is available to download on the JW site with TM3's smug mug right on the age of Friday's program. That's enough to put anyone off for a start!
Don't forget it costs them money every time we download something from their site

TO ALL BODIES OF ELDERS
Re: Visiting Disfellowshipped or Disassociated Individuals
Dear Brothers:
In recent years, many disfellowshipped or disassociated individuals have returned to Jehovah after having seen Jehovah’s Witnesses carrying out their ministry in public places. Others have approached the elders after reading a copy of the Return to Jehovah brochure or watching JW Broadcasting. (Luke 15:7) With such factors in mind, the Governing Body has determined that there is no longer a need for a formal arrangement to visit disfellowshipped or disassociated individuals each year.
Rather, elders should use good judgment in determining when and how to make brief contact with disfellowshipped or disassociated individuals. For example, if a disfellowshipped individual gives some evidence of changing his ways, an elder could remind the individual of how he can return to Jehovah. Such brief contact could be made while an elder engages in the house-to-house ministry. While shopping, an elder may see a disfellowshipped person who has not been contacted in years and choose to approach him. An older or infirm elder may find it more practical to make contact by telephone.
Elders should keep the coordinator of the body of elders updated when such contact is made. Of course, contact should not be made with active apostates, with those who are trying to lead others into sin, or with those who have made it known that they want nothing to do with the Christian congregation.
This direction replaces what is stated in the Shepherding textbook, chapter 10, paragraph 1. Each elder should cross that paragraph out and make the following notation in the margin: “See letter dated February 28, 2017, to all bodies of elders.”
This letter has been added to the list of policy letters cited in Index to Letters for Bodies of Elders (S-22).
We send our warm Christian love.
Your brothers,

JW.ORG Now requires personal address
by AverageJoe1 inlogging on to the user area access today, there appeared a message saying that they now require a postal and physical home address to attach to your profile, with a note saying that the branch may change the details as they see fit.
this raises several questions in my mind:.
why would they need to have your physical address on file?.

UPDATE: A new letter just got sent out today "explaining" the changes. Keep your eyes peeled on avoidjw.org for a copy of the official letter. In the meantime, here's what they say:

TO ALL BODIES OF ELDERS
Re: Personal Addresses and Adjustments to Coordinator of the Body of Elders or Secretary
Dear Brothers:
We are pleased to inform you of two features that are now available on jw.org.
Managing Personal Addresses: Most jw.org users who have been added to the jw.org congregation domain can now manage their personal address information using the “My User Profile” link under the “My Preferences” section of the “Administration” tab. Each user’s profile includes a “My Personal Addresses” section with a link that allows him to enter or update his addresses. For more information on how to use this feature, click on “Help.” Please note that addresses for some jw.org users are maintained by the branch office and cannot be edited online.
Informing the Service Department of a Change in Coordinator of the Body of Elders or Secretary: An online version of the Coordinator of the Body of Elders/Secretary Change of Address (S-29) form can now be accessed by elders who have been assigned the “Enter Member Information” role. This feature can be found using the “Elders and Servants” link under the “Members” section of the “Congregation” tab. When this feature is used, it is not necessary to send a printed or PDF version of the S-29 form to the Service Department. For more information on how to use this feature, click on “Help.”
We trust that these new features will be of benefit to you. We send our warm Christian love and best wishes.
Your brothers,
