Is the name Jehovah`s Witnesses a misnomer ?
by smiddy3 ini ask this because from what i read on this board lately is that they jw`s seem to be very reluctant to engage in conversation with anybody nowadays and are only interested in placing literature at carts.. and if anyone brings up questions in their d2d work that challenge them ( like the arc ) they will promptly excuse themselves and move on.
also didn`t jesus say "this good news of the kingdom would be preached in all the inhabited earth " for a witness ?.
when was the last time you heard a jw speak about "the good news of the kingdom" ?

@The Fall Guy Isaiah 43:10 I'm guessing most would use.
Thanks for that great list though, Colt Seavers!

Are Beards becoming more acceptable due to decline in membership?
by UnshackleTheChains ini noticed a young brother with a beard being given more privelages within our hall.
when he first grew his beard, he lost his privelages.
but more and more recently he has been helping out a lot more.. the cobe is old school and a stickler for rules, but with the hall becoming more empty these days, and the need for young brothers, he seems to have relaxed on this particular watchtower/man made rule.

Watchtower Philosophy Debates
by Wild_Thing ini was wondering how many of you still enjoy (or maybe you just feel the need) to discuss and debate jw doctrine and scripture.
i find myself scrolling right past those topics i see online.
i could care less.

The phrase is "I couldn't care less". If you could care less, that means you DO care a little bit!

Which Things Did Your Overzealous Parents Ban?
by pale.emperor inwe all know the gb like to impose rules upon the rules... but did anyone else out there have parents that implemented rules upon those rules?
mine did.
my mum tended to copy whatever the elders wives were doing and took it to the extreme.

- "Grange Hill" - classic series. Prefer the original theme tune though. Yep that was one of the things I watched at friends' houses as I wasn't allowed to watch that either.
- "Now That's What I call Music" albums as the artists looked worldly!
- Grotbags (Rod Hull & Emu spin-off)
- He-Man, She-Ra, Thundercats, Dungeons & Dragons
- Randall & Hopkirk Deceased
- 15 & 18 rated films (12 rating didn't exist when I was in my teens; stupid rating anyway!)
- X-Files
- MJ's "Thriller" album
- Guns n Roses
- Neighbour's kids' birthday parties (obviously)
- Raffle Tickets (even free ones)
- A-Team
- Neighbours, Home & Away, Coronation Street, Emmerdale Farm, Take The High Road, Eastenders
Sounds like we had a similar upbringing!

Higher Education
by Brian J injust spent 8 hours in a 1 day elders school last weekend.
clarification given: "moving forward any elder, ms, or pioneer who themselves or someone under their roof enrolls in higher education, may no longer qualify for privileges in the congregation.
their qualifications will have to be reviewed by their boe.".

Is that the one with the Ministerial Servants theme "How to attack an outline"?
Honestly, the writing department really need to research their use of words more carefully.
This year at our 5 day elder school, they hardly touched the subject of child abuse; they just mentioned that "we abhor it blah blah blah", "contact the branch immediately" and "don't dissuade anyone from going to the police". No change really. However, there were 5 of us (in a class of 30) talking about it in the break and we all agreed we would first call the police and let them deal with the crime whilst the other elders called the branch to deal with the sin!
It's incredible in this day and age how there are still PIMI elders with all the hypocrisy in the organisation.

growing old is a drag.
the witnesses idea of ever lasting life, that you will come back to your most youthful state is such a bs answer..

I always think that it's bizarre how the Bible likens Satan to a dragon, which is a creature that doesn't exist.
Could the Bible have been trying to tell us something all along? It doesn't get much simpler than that in my opinion. If you think that dragons really do exist, then if King George managed to kill one, Satan shouldn't be that difficult to eliminate will all today's modern technology!

Apparently in some congs in the UK there are a lot of Polish immigrant JWs and their JW culture doesn't permit the beard. They then force this on to their native brothers and sisters claiming to be offended if a Brit was allowed on a platform with a beard.
If I was still in the UK and that happened to me, I would direct them to the nearest airport and tell them they'd be best off in their own country instead of having the gall to force their culture on the locals.
The very fact that someone gets shocked by a beard and then has the audacity (not that great freeware music software) to claim to know your "weak spiritual attitude" and determine your right to be a good Christian based on having a beard is beyond me!
