  i was just lying here thinking about mind control and thought it'd write a list just to see how much the wts does try to control every aspect of people's lives.

  I would question Father’s Day as that is only a very recent celebration as far as I am aware (commerce cottoned on to it not existing and given the commercial success of Mother’s Day....) I don’t even remember it being a thing at school in the 70s and 80s, only Mother’s Day. It is celebrated there on 18th June. Here in Spain on 19th March.

  My Dad is not a JW but my mum is and I always give my dad a card and a gift. I’ve never had any grief about it. My mum queried it as she is über JW whilst I’m a PIMO and I said it’s no more pagan than wedding anniversaries that JWs love so much.

  The exact origins of what we now know as Father’s Day are disputed, though we do know the movement for a day which celebrated fatherhood began roughly 100 years ago.

  the jehovahs witnesses official web site logo incorporating jw.org has been refused registration by the united states patent and trademark office due to similarity to jw player.. section 2(d) refusal likelihood of confusionclass 42. for the reasons set forth below, the refusal under trademark act section 2(d) is now made final with respect to u.s. registration no(s).

  this refusal is limited to the class 42 services in the application.. applicants mark is jw.org & design, for use with, inter alia, providing a web site that gives computer users the ability to download audio and video recordings, dvds, music, digital print publications, online publications, documents, forms and web pages all in the field of religion, in class 42. the cited mark is jw player, for use with downloadable computer software for playing, viewing and streaming audio and video files in class 09.. .

  Anyone have a pdf to download of that document? That website is no longer up and running.

  The WTS have this to say in their latest Watchtower so I think they are lying about having trademark protection:

  April 2018 Watchtower Study Edition, Pages 30 & 31

  As is clearly stated in those Terms, no one is permitted to “post artwork, electronic publications, trademarks, music, photos, videos, or articles from this website on the Internet...”

  By securing copyright and trademark protection, we have a legal basis to prevent such misuse.

  What Do You Do if the Household Does Not Celebrate?

  it is christmas morning ....the weather outside looks cold grey and dismal (typical britain in winter ) the house is quiet as my wife gets on with something.

  .... the street is silent, as dead as the grave.

  the tv is full of the purile nonsense that fills airtime this time of year .

  Is the name Jehovah`s Witnesses a misnomer ?

  i ask this because from what i read on this board lately is that they jw`s seem to be very reluctant to engage in conversation with anybody nowadays and are only interested in placing literature at carts.. and if anyone brings up questions in their d2d work that challenge them ( like the arc ) they will promptly excuse themselves and move on.

  also didn`t jesus say "this good news of the kingdom would be preached in all the inhabited earth " for a witness ?.

  when was the last time you heard a jw speak about "the good news of the kingdom" ?

  Are Beards becoming more acceptable due to decline in membership?

  i noticed a young brother with a beard being given more privelages within our hall.

  when he first grew his beard, he lost his privelages.

  but more and more recently he has been helping out a lot more.. the cobe is old school and a stickler for rules, but with the hall becoming more empty these days, and the need for young brothers, he seems to have relaxed on this particular watchtower/man made rule.

  we all know the gb like to impose rules upon the rules... but did anyone else out there have parents that implemented rules upon those rules?

  mine did.

  my mum tended to copy whatever the elders wives were doing and took it to the extreme.

  just spent 8 hours in a 1 day elders school last weekend.

  clarification given: "moving forward any elder, ms, or pioneer who themselves or someone under their roof enrolls in higher education, may no longer qualify for privileges in the congregation.

  their qualifications will have to be reviewed by their boe.".

  Is that the one with the Ministerial Servants theme "How to attack an outline"?

  Honestly, the writing department really need to research their use of words more carefully.

  This year at our 5 day elder school, they hardly touched the subject of child abuse; they just mentioned that "we abhor it blah blah blah", "contact the branch immediately" and "don't dissuade anyone from going to the police". No change really. However, there were 5 of us (in a class of 30) talking about it in the break and we all agreed we would first call the police and let them deal with the crime whilst the other elders called the branch to deal with the sin!

  It's incredible in this day and age how there are still PIMI elders with all the hypocrisy in the organisation.
