It's my understanding that Americans in general (not just JWs) view “hell” and “damn” as swear words, whereas in the UK we don’t. Any Americans on here care to either confirm or deny?
i know this is kind of trivial but i don’t want to partake in something that might have connections with something that jehovah disapproves of.
i checked the watchtower library and i didn’t find anything on gingerbread man cookies.. .
good lord...how incredibly stupid and helpless are jdubs getting?

just when you think you've seen it all comes another interesting use of a kingdom hall.a young man serenades his girlfriend with a song (possibly a watchtower song) from the stage through a microphone and backed by recorded music.
then he steps off the stage and gets down on one knee and proposes as he pulls out a ring from his coat pocket.
the large projector screen flashes up behind them with a picture of a sapphire and diamond ring.cameras capture the joyous moment as she accepts and they lock together in a loving hug.
Plus the girl in the green dress is gorgeous!
so the official program is out but does anyone have access to the actual outlines for the assembly this year in english and/or spanish?.
maybe the gb are clamping down on their "high-up" leaks within the organisation and the circuit overseers making these available have been kicked or had to no longer leak material for fear of getting themselves discovered by the wt gestapo..
Great stuff! Thanks Atlantis.

curious if any of our eu-based members (especially those still in) have heard anything from official wt channels on how the organisation plans to be in compliance with gdpr ("general data protection regulations") by may 2018?
it's my understanding that religious organisations must comply, and that religious data is treated a "protected" and therefore subject to some enhance requirements.. specifically, how will they comply with the following requirements:.
you must disclose to the individual: what data you collect on them, why, and what you do with the data (including what other parties receive the data and what they do with it).
Hey SillyGirl,
I know there’s a program that many secretaries use in Spain and the UK called “Hourglass” and it stores ALL the publishers info (private details) on the developer’s server in the USA. It is designed and maintained by JWs but goes against all UK, Spanish and soon to be European Data Protection laws.
I know of a number of JWs who have expressed concern to their elders about this only to be told “the Data is secure”.

Point 2 is their escape clause. They’ll spin it to being necessary to maintain your data even though you’ve requested that they delete it.
Personal data will be collected, processed, and used only to the extent necessary to fulfill Jehovah’s Witnesses’ religious and charitable purposes.
this just breaks my heart.
one of my favorite actors.
i wonder why he went back.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgxx7knkwzc.
He gets to go to the Annual Meeting? I thought that was only for Uber-JWs. Oh I forgot, he’s rich & famous and lines the organisation’s pockets!

amazing how many words can be expended discussing things that people have utterly no clue about..
The only thing that makes sense there is a YouTube clip from “The Big Bang” theory!
just though i'd start a thread devoted to languages, dialects/sociolects and accents, with the idea being that posters can comment on any language, or dialect or accent of any language, on this thread.. any phrases, expressions or idioms that you find interesting are also welcome.
first, the subject of english accents came up on another thread.. the british isles have many different types of accent (although many of the dialects may be dying out), and if i start to take a closer look, i can't help but see 'patterns' .... in received pronunciation of standard english, the letter r is pronounced initially, between vowels, and after consonants, e.g.
red, arrow, break.
That’s my pet peeve in any language: the insistence on calling a place name using your own language and not the native language.
The English calling Sevilla “Seville” or the Spanish calling London “Londres”.
STOP IT!
