That trick tends to only work once, and with each successive attempt at threatening to leave the response gets weaker.

Also, without a significant increase in quality and/or quantity of his output, or new content ideas, people who donated to get him out of a hole will start to ask questions.

If he just slumps back to the bare minimum he can be bothered with, if he's slow to post on breaking news, and if he can't get anyone of interest to provide him with new or relevant content, then donors will be asking - what's the point of keeping his channel afloat? Especially if he's snarky and aggressive to anyone who asks questions about his content or offers suggestions.

less then half were children.. as far as patience goes, it can certainly help you be a better person when dealing with others but needless to say, this having patience waiting for jehovah is pure b.s.!

Good summary, Vidiot - and I've always thought that it's interesting the leadership of the org lack any self-reflection and humility to ever consider a) as a possibility, or even a potential risk.

As supposed Bible Students from way back, it should be clear to anyone that even if you believe in God, and if you believe he is using a particular organisation and if you believe that org is the one you are in/leading, the scriptures repeatedly warn against hubris and arrogance and show the downfall of key individuals in "God's organisation" who get too big for their boots or decide to do things their own way against all good sense and attempts to correct them:

Satan (and the other rebel angels)
Adam & Eve
Cain
Eli & his sons
Saul
Possibly Solomon?
Most of the Kings of Judah and Israel
Most of the scribes, Sadducees and Pharisees
Judas
'Anointed' Christians such as Ananias & Sapphira, Hymenaeus, Alexander and Philetus.

That's just some specific ones I can think of right now. All of the above were on the 'inside' of God's arrangement at the time and initially had his 'favour', yet chose to do their own thing and went beyond recovery.

Many of Jesus' own parables warned against the same thing happening among his followers, including the warning about the risk of becoming an 'evil slave', which the GB dismisses while presumptuously claiming the mantle of the 'faithful slave' to themselves without hesitation or question.

To think no such thing could happen in the 19th, 20th or 21st centuries after all of history from creation to the end of the first century, and despite believing that 1) man is still imperfect and 2) the Devil is still "walking about like a roaring lion" seeking to mislead humans, is naive at best, and self-serving and arrogant at worst.

Yes, I was wondering what happened about his request for artwork. I was thinking that was going to turn into another idea for this thread. I think someone suggested that at the time on here...

That's like the old WTBTS trick of quoting a Watchtower article as an authority on a subject in one of their own talks!

Yes, and they add to the waste and inefficiency problem in the world.

Nothing wrong with passing on these items as such.

However, there is one aspect where I think they're being disingenuous here. Under their 'About us' section it gives the purpose of the site:
The purpose of this website is to sell construction equipment, tools, and materials that were purchased for and used in the recent construction of the World Headquarters of Jehovah’s Witnesses. This is in harmony with the spirit of Jesus’ words at John 6:12, "so that nothing is wasted".

But in the context, John 6:12 is about gathering up the excess loaves and fishes, which Jesus had freely provided, for later.

A principle the org often likes to quote is at Matthew 10:8 - "You received free, give free". I don't know how many of the items they're selling were donated, but even the ones bought by the org would probably have been purchased using donated funds originally. So shouldn't they be giving these items away, like Freecycle (with perhaps just a nominal postage and packing cost where applicable)?

Ok, if you wish to sell them as second-hand items like eBay, just do it. Don't make some tenuous link to the scriptures to try and justify it! Just a thought.

Incidentally that is a nice house , If it were around this part of the U.K. it could cost double what they paid.

It might be ok, but it's a very bland and soulless development. Miles of cookie-cutting buildings and empty grass 'yards'. Not my idea of a desirable area, but then those kind of characterless American suburbs never did it for me.

I agree with FFG. AMIII has clearly been expelled from the 'inner circle' for being a 'bad boy' in some way, and paid off with an anonymous property somewhere where he will feel personally comfortable (presumably, with those previous family links) in return for 1) staying out of the hair of the remaining GB, and 2) keeping his mouth shut.

The other nearby property could be either for another family member (maybe a pad for his son to stay at when in the area), or even for another JW heavy to keep an eye on AMII and his wife and make sure they behave themselves?

My concern is that with news of his location spreading, I hope no unhinged or angry former JW tries to track him down and confront him. These days, that sort of thing is always a risk.

the twickenham post made me think of this.

i have a few jw family members on facebook and being summertime, their pics of the convention have shown up in my fb feed.

along with their comments about "i wished it would never end" or "what a glorious weekend".

And yes, the new releases were fun as were the dramas—pre-video! For some reason I enjoyed the baptisms too.

As I mentioned before, I detested the dramas. But yes, I actually enjoyed watching the baptisms back in the day, too.

Counting the new ones queuing up in front of the pool - sometimes even multiple pools! And they really did queue up in a line and wait their turn patiently too. I remember doing the same myself! How different things are now, with barely anyone baptised at assemblies and conventions these days.

Sadly, the talks were least memorable.

Interestingly, you're right. Considering all the focus was supposed to be on the "spiritual food", that was one of the least lasting elements. Most of the comments so far have focused more on the camaraderie of working together, meeting other bros and sisters, group singing and other more social aspects.

God orders Jonah Evans to travel to Nineveh and give them his judgement message, but claiming he is overworked, his mental health is suffering and he needs to re-evaluate his life, Jonah Evans flees to Thailand instead.

One day, while enjoying the company of a female who was definitely over the age of 20, and relaxing in the sea, Jonah Evans is swallowed by a big fish and carried back to where he came from.

Sickened by Jonah Evans' constant whining from inside his belly, the fish vomits him up on a beach, and finding he has been forced back from Thailand early, Jonah Evans reluctantly gets out his BMW chariot and goes to Nineveh.

When he arrives there he gives them God's warning message, telling them that since they're not going to listen to God, they should give him their money and devotion instead as he knows best.

To his horror, the people decide they'd rather listen to God, and feeling indignant, Jonah Evans tells them they're all dead to him and he's blocking them all.

Without the money he hoped to make from the Ninevites, Jonah Evans sells his chariot and he sits down, fakes tears and cries out "Things are bad!"

God rebukes him for caring more about the chariot than the Ninevites, and Jonah Evans' replies "I am dead inside" and complains he is "completely done with life's shit".
