nonjwspouse - thanks for the reminder, yes I do believe everyone should have the right to say what goes on under their own roof.

Shunning for inactive ones?
by frogonmytoe ini visited my sister in a small town in the midst of the country, the town has a population of 3,000 and there's about 70 in the cong.
anyway, there was a local needs talk a few months ago about associating with family members who didn't live under your roof and no longer went to meetings.
one family of an elder dad and three sons (one an elder too, the others have stopped going) and a daughter (still going but married a 'worldly') are quite prominent and one half of a typical congregational feud.

Truth_b_known, if it's any consolation, I've heard of this happening to others too.
Also, I've heard of JW parents not letting children who were living with someone else without being married, not stay overnight when they come to visit.
Before I found JWN, I thought maybe it was just the parents being unreasonable ... it's great to know the real reason(s).

Need Help - Looks like some one in my family got to know that we are fading...
by MissConfused inletter from a close family member... need help responding.... what a powerful illustration of the affect that our choice of friends can have on us, especially if we leave jehovah after being 'raised' by him from infancy!.
pack of wolvesthere was a farmer who raised sheep and had trouble with wolves stealing his sheep.
he loved his sheep and didn't want to lose even one of them.

That was so rude. I can't think of any nonJW that would send something like that.

Please Share one of your Favourite Quotations
by cofty inhave you ever come across words that resonate with you?
it doesn't have to be a great gem of wisdom, just something that is meaningful to you.. please share, and if you want to, tell us why it's meaningful to you.. here is something that made me nod when i first read it.... .
"fortunate are those who have learned to see, in the wild things of nature, something to be loved, something to be wondered at, something to be reverenced, for they have found the key to a never-failing source of recreation and refreshment".

Good one Hortensia. Same thought here, from Rumi
This being human is a guesthouse.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
Some momentary awareness.
Comes as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they're a crowd of sorrows
Who violently sweep your house
Empty of its furniture
Still treat each guest honorably.
He may be cleaning you out
For some new delight!
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
Meet them at the door laughing,
And invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
Because each has been sent.
As a guide from the beyond. -

I just created an account on jw.org
by nonjwspouse injust what is the purpose for it?
i can get to all the stuff without an account except with the account i can look up meeting times of a local congo, or conventions, and donate to the wtbts.
that seems to be it.in fact, once signed in that is all that is available and have to go back to being logged out to get anything else on the site.. what gives?

I just went to the site, and I found I can see the Conventions of some countries, but not others, like The U.K. and Canada are missing from the list....(I didn't create an account).

it is sad... it is pathetic... it has helped me realize that i have no connection to these people anymore.
i feel free today.

You've inspired me C&A. Your honesty and forthrightness with your family is amazing. Though my family hasn't totally shunned me, i've noticed them being more distant since the DC. Maybe it's just as well, since they're not doing anything to save for their retirement either. If I was you, I'd want to know if they'll just continue racking up CC debt after it's paid up. Better they have a plan to live within their means before any relief is offered.

Please help. I am losing the plot.
by wordyword inafter being a witness for 40 years, i now find myself disfellowshipped.. i have had a number of doubts for a few years now, but still feel as if i'm living my life in the "t minus " to armageddon spector.. my parents are in their 80's and my dear mother is in very bad health.
i was allowed to pop through - about once a month to make sure my parents were ok and for them to see their grandchildren.
this all ended after the july watchtower article and especially since the district convention - with all the "counsel" on associating with disfellowshipped family members.. around 6 weeks ago, my dad asked me point blank why i wasn't trying to get reinstated.

This is so sad. I feel for you. I second DNCall, just because they shun you, doesn't mean you have to agree. Go, and at least express your concern and ask if there's anything you can do.

uh, lets see if I get this - so Jehovah wants you to prove your loyalty to him by blackmailing your family.
it's amazing what the mind will accept

How habits are formed
by WishingLiz ini just listened to this talk about morphic resonance by rupert sheldrake.
i find it quite interesting.
in it he talks about the formation of habits in and learning.

Hi Phizzy - In his defence, Sheldrake doesn't claim to know it all either, but he's willing to ask the questions and think outside the box.
Collective learned consciousness and holographic memories stored somewhere in the ether are definitely out there.
Peace, and well wishes to all here.
