IN THEIR OWN WORDS: The mean-spirit of Russell's sham marriage
by Terry init is commonly known by jehovah's witnesses, the marriage of pastor c.t.russell and his wife maria (moe-rye-uh) was an uneasy one.. the marriage itself was founded on a weird interpretation of "virginity" and "purity" as only an obsessive-compulsive.
puritan fanatic might find agreeable.
the two of them were not to share a bed (or physical relations.).

The True Nature of Shunning
by done4good inalthough i have been out for 8+ years, my recent experiences with this have taught me quite a bit.
i believe most here would claim this is what mind controlled people do when they are in contact with a known "former" believer, so i think some deeper understnding of what is really going on is in order.. i always asked why is the "mind control" so effective and how do the organizations that intiate it, learn how to?
i never really could find a satisfactory answer.

The inevitable memorial invitation
by Really?! ini knew it was coming.
i'd managed to swerve it once already when i saw the paper invite laid out all special in my mothers kitchen when i arrived at her house..i avoided the kitchen for the rest of the visit.. had the family over this weekend, we were alone whilst preparing food and i knew from the second that the tone in her voice changed what was coming.
the usual words along the line of "i invite you every year, i've got the paper invite to give you as well (like that would make a difference?!

Yesterday, I too received the call - an email from my sister, after a year of little or no contact (and she just lives down the street), asking if i would like to come over...(lol, kind of like me with posting here ...)
But seriously, thanks Really for posting this. It gives some comfort knowing we're not alone. I've also been out for decades. It's so odd how they can turn something inside out and twist it into something that it isn't. I would (and have) gone just to please them, but I can't take the looks of presumed 'pity' and sympathies saying we miss you. They just look on us as being lost, when it's actually them. If I could find a way of going with respect and dignity, I might try it again. But unfortunately they won't be able to treat others with respect, it's too bad.
My 2 cents.
Wishing you all the best.

MEXICO | Jehovah's Witness Family of 8 Massacred including three Children
by jwleaks ineight family members killed in mexico massacremexico | november 17, 2013. mexican police found sunday a family of eight, including three children, stabbed to death and tied down in their home in the northern city of ciudad juarez.. a two-year-old boy survived the attack and was handed to neighbors, local police said.. the chihuahua state prosecutor's office said the assailants apparently forced their way inside the house and killed two men, three women and three children between the ages of four and six.. their mouths were covered with duct tape and their hands and feet were tied.
neighbors said they heard gun shots but authorities said the victims had stab wounds.. neighbors said the house owner was a car salesman.. the family was supposed to attend a meeting of jehovah's witnesses when they were attacked inside their home on sunday morning, according to testimonies.. they were discovered dead after members of the congregation went to look for them.. ciudad juarez, which borders the us state of texas, was once the deadliest city in mexico amid a turf war between drug cartels.. more than 10,000 people have been killed in the city since 2006 but the murder rate began to decline in 2011.. local officials say the drop in violence is due to tougher policing and crime prevention programs, but security experts believe it began to wane after the sinaloa drug cartel defeated the rival juarez gang.. read latest breaking news from newsmax.com http://www.newsmax.com/newsfront/mexico-crime-murder/2013/11/17/id/537112#ixzz2kziajt8f.

Not Forsaking Christian Gatherings
by StephaneLaliberte inat the meeting this week, there was a part about placing our trust in jehovah and not worrying about food and shelter (mat 6:33).
the part was based on the 2013 yearbook p138 and 139 where there were two examples:.
a family went to their convention leaving their chickens unattended for a number of days, worried about if they would survive.

The Huffington Post says (in part):
"Any religious community can become a cult. It's not about how faith is expressed in a community but more importantly how people are treated if they want to leave and disbelieve."

Thanks Clarity.
To be honest, I left TT years ago. I recently joined JWN when I had a life change, and decided to move close to my family. It was great at first. They always said they wouldn't shun me, but in reality, they don't want much contact with me. I think the recent apostate talks are influencing them.
So here I am, after years of living away, living again in my hometown, close to my family. I may move away again, who knows.
Thanks again for the welcome! JWN is a great place.
