right on the money, dogpatch. not like i need to tell you, but in the org. there are the rules and then there are the rules. and the "geeks" love to try to enforce those unsaid rules. when i was in the org. i had longer hair and was constantly being "counseled" about. later i decided to get rid of it, and shaved it down to about a half inch, at which point i was told my hair was to short. i think this kind of thing usually happens because people that deny themselves things get jealous of those that don't. oh well, i'm out now, and suprisingly i've been able to properly groom myself without their help.

Assemblies...conventions...special days...
by NikL inthere is a phenomenon in dub dom that i have always hated.
the circuit/district convention.. people will spend hard earned money, use up any vacation they may have to travel to a city they don't really have any particular reason to see to sit for entire days and listen to the same b.s.
they could sit and listen to at the meetings in their home kingdom hall.

nik-what a great post, i wish it brought back great memories. i too used to try to get any assignment that would keep me out of my seat. my favorite part was watching the witness kids i knew getting interviewed. everyone thought those kids were sooo wonderful, meanwhile, i was laughing knowing that these kids were not quite the "exemplerary" youths everyone thought them to be.

Manna, a celestial food?
by TheHighPriest inthis will make most of you guys think that i believe you can find god in a mushroom, that is not exactly true but what if the jews did?
what if that is what the early christians thought?
what if christianity is inspired by drug users?

THP- i actually found your post very interesting. you haven't made me a believer, but i do have a couple of questions about your theory.
1. if manna was a bunch of mushrooms, specifically magic mushrooms, how did they sustain the isrealites nutritionally? according to the bible, even when there was other food, it was the manna that was their staple.
2. how could the isrealites eat the mushrooms daily for any long period of time? the ritual use of these mushrooms has usually been documented as just that, ritual, not daily. not to mention the fact that when someone takes mushrooms the day after previously taking them, they must eat twice the amount to get the same effect. compile this day after day, and the mushrooms would cease to have the same effect that they did in the first place. also, have you ever heard of anyone who was able to sustain that amount of daily ingestion for very long at all? a couple of, maybe even several days, maybe, but weeks, months, years? i don't know...
THP- i'm not attacking your post, just really curious how you would answer these questions. thanks-unanswered

Watchtower and sex
by claudia inok maybe this is a dumb question, but i really am curious.
why does it seem that fornication is the only "real" sin in the jw religion?
i mean people can slander, be gluttonous, get drunk and have unethical business practices, but god forbid you should have a little sex.

first, i have to agree with mommy on this one.
"So you see it is not who you know but how high up they are in org"
when i was 19 and 20 i was friends with a jw girl my age. regularly i would go to her house and hang out with her family and their friends. on many such occasions we had a few beers given to us by the parents. they knew i was not of legal age, and even when elders were there it was never a problem. however, when it came out that i drank with other witness friends, i was accused of having a drinking problem.
now i realize that one situation was under adult supervision and one was not, but, how come i only had a drinking problem when i was away from that supervision? i'm not defending my drinking as a minor-i'm sure i won't want my kids doing that, i just think that it's the double standards that really get a lot of us fired up, not always the principles.
frenchy-once again i've enjoyed your balanced opinion. you always seem to remember and allow for our humanity when discussing these kinds of topics.

"Who Packed Yours and Mine Parachute?"
by DevilsAdvocate_DA inwho packed yours and mine parachute?.
sometimes in the daily challenges that life gives us, we miss what is really important.
we may fail to say hello, please, or thank you, congratulate someone on something wonderful that has happened to them, give a compliment, or just something nice for no reason.. charles plumb, as us naval academy graduate, was a jet pilot in vietnam.

Other worldy religions
by conflicted ini am going to look up some of the worlds non-christian religions, not as a seeker, or out of a need to change beliefs, but from an educational perspective.
i have been interested in what people belive for a while, but have never taken this step before.
i guess what i'm asking is if anyone else has looked up other religions and what have you found?

i've read writings of some eastern religions(buddism, hinduism, taoism, etc.), as well as a lot of research on native american rituals and beliefs. i find common threads in all the religions i've looked at, and that's what keeps me studying. my findings are only little questions that make the answer much more complicated. it fascinates me, though, so i can't stop.

"Use of the Internet-Be Alert to the Dange...
by zev init never ceases to amaze me that in my 30+ years of sitting in those cheep plastic chairs, how much i missed, took for granted or just plain didn't care.
i took advantage of my time this morning to look over a couple aticles published by the borg, that relate to sites like this and countless others.
{this one being the best of course, imho} .

zev-great post. there was so much i wanted to comment on, but i'll just pick one little quote that really got me.
"The information is generally not verifiable and may be untrue."
i find this statement so funny because so many of the posts are direct quotes from the society's publications, which are easily verifiable. i do agree, however, that many of their statements are probably untrue(the quotes from the WT, i mean).

So What Tipped You Out, Then?
by Englishman incan you remember that distinct moment in your life when you suddenly knew that your time as a jw was truly over?.
for me, that moment came several years after the removal of my privileges in the congregation when i admitted to having known my then fiance in a way that was not fitting for a ministerial servant.. i was quickly stripped of my 2 servants jobs, group study conducting, pioneer status, public talk giving and praying in the kh.
i was also forbidden to ever be alone with the lady concerned.. about 15 months later i was assigned a public talk, after 30 minutes i dried up.

doubtingsister-i'm new too, glad to have you at the board. i just wanted to agree with waiting about the fence issue. IMO you shouldn't feel bad for taking some time(however long that is) to decide what you need to do. leaving the WT is a huge plunge to take, and most here understand that it's not necessary for us to pressure you one way or another. you don't have to pick sides here. looking forward to your posts-unanswered.
