my wife has just left for the memorial.. just before she went she asked me to come...this was the second year in a row that i declined.
i hated seeing her so sad, i almost agreed to go just to cheer her up but that would betray her in a very real sense.
to go to the memorial would be an admission in her eyes (and other jws) that i still believe deep down that it is the truth.

i just registered just today.
i am not a dissenter from jws--still an active member but i have an open mind and willing to listen to all who post here.
there have been some questions bugging me lately that have caused me to wonder about certain scriptures pertaining to being "born again.
Hi Flower petal
Welcome to the board and it is good that you have an opened mind. If you decide that the JWs are for you, then good on you, at least you would have come to that informed decision on your own.
I have a question for you, If only 144000 go to heaven then can you please explain to me what 1 John 5:1 is all about where it says "everyone"?

all this talk about whether door to door work is fruitful or not has really got me thinking.. so i was wondering, (a) how many jw's or ex's here were actually converted on the door, and (b) how many jw's or ex's here ever obtained a convert on the door?.
i made 2 converts whilst a jw, but 1 was the son of an interested person, the other was a wayward son of a weak sister so i get a zero.. my dad worked at london heathrow as an air traffic controller, he got 6 other controllers to join up, so if you're arriving in the uk, don't fly apostasy airways!
for all his frequent bouts of vac pioneering, i don't think that he ever pulled a live one off the doors, so he gets a zero too.. my mum was quite a puller in her time but they were all friends of friends who came to sit in on bible studies etc, so, sorry mater, you get a zero also.. as a matter of fact, i'm wondering if the door to door work isn't completely pointless!.
Same here. I pioneered for a long time and so did the missus. Zero here although I have scored 2 in the "get em out" ministry!

well here it is folks the response to my wife's letter.
i guess i have become more evil between letters.
once again any ideas as to how to answer this type of logic?
I have never called the JWs a mind controlling cult but the more I see the more I am beginning to think that it is. This type of reasoning can only be explained by that definition.
I am glad that I am out of it.

you do whatever you feel that you have to do. I have the same problem myself regarding 607. Do I keep quiet or do I tell other people? It is coming to the point where I NEED to tell other JWs even though it means I may be dsfd.

this is my first post in any network such as this.
i have been "lurking" around the "apostate" sites for the last year or so.
i am glad i have!

last night on bbc1 there was a programme that was talking of the life of christ.one of the things that it mentioned was that the jews were waiting for the messiah to appear although they were expecting a warrior leader.. this got me thinking.
i remember reading an article that show 70 "prophecies" in the bible, that were fulfilled by the birth of christ.the jews would have known about these.
also what about the 70 weeks prophecy that is meant to prophecy the birth of christ?
Interesting point Mensa but I was attacking this from the veiw of the Bible being inspired and true.

i am reading a book recomended by ginny tosken.. in it, it states that there were no walls around the city of jericho.
i seem to remember someone posting last week about this which contradicts the above.. uo
I am trying to read a chapter a night as it is a lot to take in. One thing that struck me last night was that although Archeaologists can find no trace of Isreal in the time period that the Bible sets it in, they have found later traces of foundations and Tent sites. And the interesting thing is that according to the bones that they found, they did not eat pork as no pig bones were found. Anyone got any comments on this?
