Baptism...a new look at an old subject.
by Chariklo infresh onto the forum this morning, i found a post on another thread where whether or not someone is/was baptised was being discussed, and it made me think.. i am in the process of radically re-appraising my attitude to religion and all things spiritual, and realised that this must include baptism.. here in the uk baptism most of the population traditionally used to think of baptism as christening, and it was a kind of official recognising that a new baby was here.
the christening in church, white shawl for the baby, best clothes, family gathering and teaparty, godparents giving presents to the baby, often the starting of a bank savings account...all of that together comprised the baby's christening, and in many cases would be the last the child saw of the inside of a church until the wedding day, and then years ahead the funeral.
hatch, match and dispatch.. baptism is seen and recognised as a sacrament, with a power in and of itself.

EXPLOSIVE RUTHERFORD THREAD RESTORED
by Farkel inwhat i consider to be my most important contribution to this board had become corrupted somehow and i thought lost.
while rooting around for some other information, i found a site that had reconstructed the entire 28 page thread!
the thread is much more important than just what i contributed, because many, many people spent money and time doing further research and thread took on a life of its own.. this is an introduction provided at the site i found:.

I'll read through the work next week.
I'm curious whether investigations revealed anything re:
Rutherford's illegitimate daughter (by his house maid who was married to his chaufer). .

...Weird Ass Lights in the Sky...
by OUTLAW ingood evening jwn!!...
as most of you know i live in a forest,in the mountains..at night there is very little light pollution... so the sky is one big theatre screen... i see shooting stars, northern lights, satellites, planes on a destination..it`s all very beautiful... tonight was different... .
tonight there was something in the sky that defied anything i`ve ever seen... it had multiple aircraft lights but not like regular airplane lights..it wasn`t a helicopter... it could go straight up or down... move in one direction then head in another..it could do all kinds of weird stuff... sometimes it just hovered..then start doing all these weird maneuvers... regular aircraft is going somewhere,it`s headed in a direction..not this thing... i watched a regular airplane pass it... .

Hi Outlaw,
Thanks for sharing this experience.
You say you have a camera and a scope. You can put those two together you know
(I often used to take pics putting binocular up to cameran lens).
I live in a wilderness setting too and am learning to take pics of the night sky, night animals etc.. (a skill worth learning).
I've just bought my first digital SLR and have a scope with camera attachment on order.
cheers, Lee
ps: don't forget the tripod

Beware of the Strawman argument!
by Farkel inyears ago before i took the time and effort to study logic and argumentation, i went to a market and bought some toothpaste.
it was a little-known brand and it touted "baking soda" as its magic ingredient.
it was also cheaper than the name-brand toothpastes and that helped me in my decision.

Hey Bro. Farkel,
tis good to see ya.
When I first came online you recomended formal logic tuition and I got it a few years back in psycology101.
red herrings, non-sequiter etc.. they're just a formal way of catagorising bullshit ..
it's a nice skill but generally met with bemusement down-under for we are a simple folk in waters easily muddied by formality
(often confused with pretence .and being 'up oneself'.
That said, it does keep things unarguably honest.
cheers, unc/zed
