Thanks for that onacruse. I noted too that the 'year' was FISCAL and not SERVICE in the quotes, which rather makes clear the driving force '....behind the name.'

Thank you Gretchen for your eloquent appraisal. I was so incensed that I couldn't type fast enough or get my thoughts organised, I kept spitting tacks into my hands as I typed.
Elsewhere, that photo is so gross, I can't uncurl my toes.
Syrup - read gretchen's comments and repent

The article in the Feb 15th WT really got up my nose.
The year book of 1974 page 212 is copied below - emphasis mine.
How does this compare with the Feb 15th 2004 Watchtower last paragraph page 6 continuing to page 7? Judge for yourselves.
Also a part from the 'Declaration of Facts' 1933 Berlin - emphasis mine.
Declaration of facts (extract)
"A careful examination of our books and literature will disclose the fact that the very high ideals held and promulgated by the present national government are set forth in and endorsed and strongly emphasized in our publications, and show that Jehovah God will see to it that these high ideals in due time will be attained by all persons who love righteousness and who obey the Most High. Instead, therefore, of our literature and our work's being a menace to the principles of the present government we are the strongest supporters of such high ideals. For this reason Satan, the enemy of all men who desire righteousness, has sought to misrepresent our work and prevent us from carrying it on in this land. "
*** yb74 p. 212 Germany (Part Three) ***
A total of 2,000 brothers and sisters had been put into concentration camps, where they had spent 8,078 years and six months, an average of four years. A total of 635 had died in prison, 253 had been sentenced to death and 203 of these had actually been executed. What a record of integrity!
WT 15/02/2004 page 6/7
In Nazi Germany, for example, they refused to compromise (really - see declaration of facts above) Christian principles and therefore were not acceptable according to Nazi ideology. Hitler hated them for it. Says one school textbook: "Jehovahs Witnesses...followed the teaching of the bible not to take up weapons in any cause - blah blah blah - in retaliation the SS blah blah blah. About a third of all Jehovah's Witnesses {in Germany} were murdered in concentration camps". - Germany - 1918-45.
-
so are they saying that there were only 1905 witnesses in Germany at the time (635 x 3) ?This is just blatant dishonesty.

I remember one vist with what we called the 'designer' CO DCO). All the 'A' list would fawn and invite to dinner the CO & his wife. He had a private income and drove nissan supra, I think it was, one of those japanese super car thingy's. Any way, I was talking to some elder and DCO came up and, as always, you are relgated to the background whilst they have their conversation. For some reason this elder suggested that DCO work with me and I will always remember that he visibly backed off with what looked like horror at the thought. I didn't want to work with this dork anyway so the feeling was mutual. At the territory the DCO dropped off his minions and sped away like a bat out of hell, much to my relief. His wife had a wierd name, something like Dody - some may know him from the South /south east of England - hays bridge and all that.

When my daughter decided not to come to the meetings anymore we were at a DA and our 'friends' were up-beat about it saying we could have more in the new system. In their eyes she was dead already, despite her being their children's friend for 17 years. Glad I am out

The Isaiah book?s?
by l3gi0n inwhat was the point of this book?
what did we learn?
we studied two books, 700+ pages, on the 66 chapters of isaiah, for 3 years, and what was learned?

I remember a WT within the last 2 years - the article was about elders or independant thinking - I forget which, or both - saying to the elders '...(tm WTS) have you read both copies of the isaiah books?..' I wondered how many had, bearing in mind the letters in ISOCF to brooklyn saying that not much literature was actually read. I reckon that most litereature is only read by those who have to read at the meetings - most people just stared into space - or read another article in the mags, which is what I did.
Anyone remember the bablyon book studies. It is all 'deep, very deep' which was a way of saying I haven't a clue what it is about so don't ask me to explain, I am having enough trouble trying to understand the questions with the double negatives - 'why wasn't moses not dismayed by aaron's not knowing when he couldn't go into the antitypical temple in 1919' and the like, just rty and find the answer in the paragraph and say that in your own words.
But of course all this obsure data that we learnt gave us the feeling of being 'spiritually well fed' and superior to the under-norished 'worldiings' who were not sitting on a numb bum listening to drivel, but out enjoying themselves without having to 'pay' for it by doing 'kingdom interests' first.

The Elders Are Getting Opinions About Minimus
by minimus inmy mother told me that her bookstudy overseer asked his group this question---"why do you think a mature brother in the truth would just suddenly leave and stop coming to meetings?
any ideas?
" the group gave different opinions and finally he gave what he thought could be the reasons.

I think that Odrade and Seattle's comments combined really hit the nail hard and square on the head.
There are many elders who do sincerely believe it and so cannot think that you would leave the 'truth' for any reason other than those mentioned. I know one elder who is referred to as the vicar by other elders (in private) because he is so 'company man'. These are the worst because they will, as the scriptures say, 'Kill you believing they are doing a sacred service to God'. His family was so screwed up that on one meeting item when a daughter of his was doing a presentation, she said that at school they were telling rude jokes and she said that she 'prayed to Jehovah to close her ears' so as not to hear what was said. They saw satan in everything. If good happened, it was a blessing from Jehovah, if bad, it was satan. They walked about in fear of their own shadows. But I think that generally, the elders are those that fit in best with the soviet style. They have some power and want to use it and will hear nothing about the state that is negative, alot of it is quite 1984 - newspeak, thought police re-writing history, even down to the price of chocolate being reported as going down despite it going up. I have found that you cannot win against the WTS, it is pointless trying to convince anyone about anything non-JW and is a waste of effort trying - we all know that as we have been on both sides of the fence. The best you can hope for is that in the dead of night when they wake up asnd can't get back to sleep their minds will be humming with thoughts, as it does, and in that unguarded state a small seed of question may take root.

CoC is a great book, but I think that after reading it you should read ISOCF as well. I found that ISOCF really unhooked the last vestiges of guilt and fear that I felt still tied me down. It took a week to read it as it is quite a thick book (it has a lot of pages thick, that is) and some points raised just make you have to put it down and meditate on them for a while before you can move on - at least for me. Or maybe I am just thick (not many pages thick, thick).

The dull ache of success
by czarofmischief inthis is part essay, part whinge.
a whinge is a british expression for a bitchfest.. i am in pain, a great deal of psychic turmoil.
partly, i think, it is due to the weather; the gloom of a pittsburgh winter is nothing to sneeze at (although, achoo, the flu is going around).

I suppose all the cheering is akin to the hags at the guillotine.
There is a mass mobbery that bedevils certain elements in society. We can be pleased that saddam has been captured. we can be pleased that he will face justice but we should not rejoice and hang bunting out and sing and dance in the streets over it. Rejoice for the end of oppression, yes, the end of his regime, yes. He has done terrible things nad he deserves to face justice and punishment for them. But let us do it with dignity, otherwise we are no better than him. Let us also remember that he is a product of society and that he has been allowed to get away with, helped and supplied with, his crimes by the very powers that now sanction him. This wicked world has also been allowed to continue to prove some so-called point about soveriegnty. I sometimes wonder how much pain and suffering is enough before it is obvious that we need superhuman help to govern ourselves. The so-called 'test' is unfair and unbalanced and we will never win because we have so much stacked against us - death, old age, sickness, short life span and powerful spirit creatures that know none of such things and have a free hand to torment us - if you are to believe the WT.
When Saddam gets his punishment we should feel that justice has been done and we should not gloat or rejoice but rather feel saddened that it had to happen at all.
God, I'm depressed. I think, if it's all right with you, I'll just go shoot myself.
