Question about letters to society.

hi.. i was reading another post about asking for your personal files.

i was wondering if anyone knew if the society send copies of letters you have sent to them to your congregation.. i recently sent them a letter asking about the old information about the 1914 generation on their website.. i received a letter back from them that didn't answer the question (what's new) but was more a slap on the wrist for even deigning to ask.

i was directed to a couple of articles about the apreciation and good use of older publications and told that older light had to be taken into regard with newer light and that older books still have their worth as long as we use newer ones as well.... talk about confusing.. anyway, i was wondering if they would send the elders in my congregation a copy of my letter to them?.

The world headquarters will forward any letter from a witness or otherwise to the local congregation elders. Over the years I saw DF'd people write the society for help when a local BOE was uncooperative in reinstating the individual. Also, letters from people sending in for literature will be forwarded to the local BOE. So, any letter of inquiry about doctrinal questions will be in the hands of the BOE within days of its receipt in Brooklyn. So, if anyone wants the Wrath of GB down on their heads, just write the society about anything they've changed or is the least bit controversial. Better to save your postage and do your own research.

Elders routinely write the GB over questions the BOE has regarding the 'proper' handling of a multitude of situations, often at the direction of the PO. Usually, the answer is full of WT references, or the Elder's Manual guidelines.

Frankly, if you want to stay 'under the radar', the worst thing you can do is write the society with an honest question.

i was always a shy kid that desperately wanted to make my parents proud.

at about this same time i started to hang out with some guys that my dad didn?t particularly approve of.

i wonder how my life would have turned out had i stopped at any point between ages 14 and 19 and asked myself who exactly i was doing all this for.

I echo the others posting here. Welcome! 'The truth shall set you free', how true. Things may seem confusing and bleak at times, but it gets better as time goes by. I was in for 22 yrs got out 5 yrs ago. There is life beyond the WT! I'm truly sorry your family is treating you so shabbily. But please know that the folks on this board are pulling for you and your happiness.

As a witless for 22 yrs, I was always amazed at how the GB seemed to want to twist everything around to fit them. Since I am a 'Ustabee', I have been able to see the GB for just what they are: 'Purveyors of Male Bovine Excrement'.

Concerns about the state of the nation's youth have been a fixture of most generations since this country's founding. In WW II, the older generation that had fought WW I was faced with a generation that listened to music that to the older ones was absolutely frightening. Hard to think that big band music would cause that reaction, but it did. 'Jitterbugging' wasn't limited to fishing anymore. They drank and partied and smoked and just generally had a good time. Then Pearl Harbor happened and those same jitterbugging party hounds became in Tom Brokaw's words, "The Greatest Generation." People have a way of rising to the demands of the circumstances.

If you look at the faces of these youths as they ask the questions on CNN, you see something different, something that wasn't there before. Let's hope that they can rise to this challenge against mankind as our forefathers have done since we became a country.

Our fathers and grandfathers fought a war to preserve freedom and democracy. During that war, dark days were experienced and many, many people lost their lives in the cause of freedom. They never lost sight of the goals of that war. They paid any price, bore any burden to achieve victory over the forces of evil. My mother was sixteen years old in WWII, she left home and worked in an ordinance plant at night and went to high school in the day. She along with many others of that era were totally committed to bringing to a successful conclusion ‘this dirty business.’

I have no doubt that the ‘dirty business’ we are about to embark upon will be even more ‘dirty’ than that of WW II. News commentators have been making a lot of the ‘New World’ that all of us woke up to Wednesday, September 12. It is a new world, for sure, as seen from this Irish politician’s words to the IRA:

You cannot continue to threaten the Good Friday Agreement, all elements of which have been endorsed by the overwhelming majority of the Irish people voting in a freely conducted and fair referendum. It is not your Agreement. It belongs to all the people of this island.
Nor can you threaten and risk damaging the goodwill which this country and its people enjoy in the United States, including with the US Administration. Your continuing refusal to put arms and explosives beyond use in Ireland is an appalling signal to send at any time but particularly so following last week's atrocities.

Our country and our people are up to this task, of which I have no doubt. We need to be realistic and expect the worst and hope for the best. However, let the whole world know that we have done this before and we will do it again.

Courage In The Face Of Death.

there is one thing that has come out of last weeks tragedy that, to me, is absolutely bloody marvelous.. so many of those plane passengers phoned home.

so many of the trapped office workers did the same.

I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save.
I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

As I watched the interview of the wives of the men who evidently successfully averted United Flt 93 from hitting its intended target, I was reminded of this letter now made famous from "Saving Private Ryan." The last words his family heard from one of these men were, "Jesus help us, let's roll." Those men demonstrated what being an American is all about. They were strangers thrown together in a desperate situation. Their actions will no doubt become legendary in our country's history.
