at first when we joined, we all choose a user name that would identify us.

we also had the choice of puting a picture next to our user name.

often, some change the picture for a better one.

Most definately change it. This name was "thought" up spur of the moment. It only causes confusion for those NOT in Texas! haha Oh, wait....that may be a noble thang at that. Of course if you perchance are in the market for a new mantra, by all means latch on to this one:

i thought it might be interesting to see how much of the worldly wisdom we have aquired .there are alot of quaint sayings that go way back in time here are some of my favorites to give an example - an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure , a bird in the hand is better than 2 in the bush ,what's good for the goose is good for the gander .feel free to add your favs .

Sorry I didn't get back to this thread sooner. No one ever asked me any questions before!! lol

I work for a sign company and put up some lettering in the reception area. I had only light chit chat with a few people (I wasn't there to converse!) but overheard any other discussions close by. Praying and laying on hands of sick workers (it was winter and lot's of folks had colds!). Just the overall tone of those around and the constant chatter of how great Mr Hinn's work is...yada yada...

Ok, no one's mentioned it yet so I will. I've always thought Hinn looked alot like Jon Lovitz (you know, the pathological liar on SNL).
I had to do some work at Hinn's office's in Las Colinas about a year ago. Talk about Heebie Jeebies!!! Very cult like atmosphere. All the pictures of him on the walls with all the "important" people. Sheeesh. Same feeling as I had the last time I was in a KH...couldn't wait to exit.

Did anybody get The Bell?

during the thocratic school during our tuesday meetings, i dreaded hearing the bell.

*ding* someone had run over 5 minutes and had to cut their talk short.. this part always disturbed me.

nevermind the fact that these people worked hard to prepare their talk about something they felt was worthwhile, they have to be humiliated and cut off in front of the whole congregation.

Wouldn't it have been great to be one of them "fast talkers" like in some commercials...have it all rehearsed so you could squeeze that last minute into 15 seconds and end right as the bell dings. Just a thought. :)

Not that anyone asked or cares...
My mom started studying when I was 5 and was baptized within a year. I rebeled and quit going when I was around 15 (just around 1974-75) and why not, with armaggedon coming "shortly" I wasn't going to make 16 anyway (just couldn't "fit in").
With my mom, two brothers, one sister, one sister-in-law and one brother-in-law baptized jw's as well as all the "friends" (theirs, not mine!) it was an ever present thing as someone was always trying to persuade me to "hurry and get in the door before it's too late!" This went on for years until...
At the time of the Jim and Tammy Faye incident(s) it was "obvious" (or so I was told) that the government's were about to "turn on religion" so it was now or never. Started burning lots of midnight oil reading all the old books my mom had as well as the then current mags and trying to make up for lost time. Funny thing though, the more I tried to convince myself (and others) it was right, the less convinced I became -still had all the jw mental gymnastics going on in my head though. Quit going after a couple of years (governments still not having wiped out religion) and pretty much did the fade away / living in fear of armageddon thing until...
Sometime in 1998-99 my older brother called me up and started talking about the witnesses...I thought he was just trying to get me back in and I wasn't interested in hearing it. I tried very hard to supress the jw thoughts and live as normally as I could. Anyway, turns out he was telling me about a book that I just "HAD" to read called Crisis Of Conscience. It took me a few months before I went and ordered it but once it was in my hands I could not put it down!
I had seen chat rooms on AOL for jw's / xjw's but dared not venture in. After reading CoC I made my way in and became a regular lurker for awhile and had lots of interesting times (thank you LifeValue and the others for making me feel welcome and understanding my reluctance to be there). Anyway, after a bit of time there it was finally beginning to dawn on me that it wasn't just ME...I wasn't the only one that thought that I was the only one that thought I was the faulty one...or something.

So there ya have it. The condensed version. Oh, you were just asking for a number? uh, I guess about 35 years under the influence though never baptized. Whew! ~~Lucky~~ fortunate me!

dantheman is a stupid f*cking loser who may be losing his job tomorrow due to a very f*cking stupid loser thing he did at work.. i am so disgusted with myself right now.

my image in the mirror makes me nauseous.. have you ever been fired from a job?

how did it affect your employment from that point forward?

I've never been fired either! Don't think I haven't tried though!! I even pulled an "Englishman" type stunt...drove (uh, tried to drive) a box van into a slightly shorter parking garage. And yep, it was only a few weeks old also. Well, I'll keep trying (to get fired) and one of these days I'll get it right. Boob drooling eh? Hmmmm. As long as it's a woman it just might work. hehehe
