Crisis of Conscience

i am on the last chapter of this book!

i can hardly put it down.

have you all read it?

My brother phoned me and told me about Crisis... about three years ago. He insisted that I HAD to read it but it took me a few months to actually make the effort to get it. I was kinda skeered to I guess. When I got it home I opened it up and started reading, like most of you I could not put it down till I was through. And man was I pissed! It made so much sense of all the crap we had drilled into us for all those years.

Some time later I told a long time friend about it telling him he "HAD to read it!" lol Took a long time before he did and even then it was with the intention of "exposing all the errors" in it. Well, he said he couldn't find any errors. He didn't agree with everything in the book but was impressed with the majority of the info. That book has opened alot of eyes and let so many see that they weren't "the only one" that felt something wasn't right in the WT world.

For those without mothers

mothers day can bring up many issues for some of us.

for some their mothers have passed away and the opportunity to say i love you in person is forever lost.. for others our mothers are lost to the borg.

in fact, we may never have had the opportunity to celebrate a mother's day with them.

Stumbled into this thread not knowing just what I would find. All I can say is that you are all some amazing people!!! I feel for what you have been through and am awed by your will power and strength.

I've been wondering if I should do anything special for my mom this weekend despite her religion. Well, her religion be damned - she's having a Mother's Day this year and she's going to know that it's a Mother's Day too. No pretense. She's 81 and very frail and we all know that she may not be around much longer and that is such a shame because she is one of the good ones. One of those people that will put herself out to help others. The religion thing has caused a great deal of stress and tension in the family for almost my entire life but despite that, she hasn't shunned any of us. We wouldn't let her anyways! She understands quite well that her family, as troublesome as we can be are now all she has left. So get ready mom, you're about to be celebrated. Like it or not.

ex-JWs: Do you now say "Bless You!" when someone sneezes?

most jws can't say "god bless you" or "bless you" when someone sneezes for fear of blessing someone with the wrong god.. now that you are out, do you have the nerve to say it?.

I'm still uncomfortable with that saying. I think it's more my way of avoiding any religiosity whenever possible. And it bugs me when I've "been blessed". Blessing after the fact does no good, if you're going to invoke the power of the god(s) then make me not sneeze in the first place.

I'll Pray for you. What's your feelings when someone says that to you?

for those of us who left organized religion, how does it make you feel when a xtian says they will pray for you because you don't believe the same as they do?

personally, in my opinion, that is a very obnoxious statement, especially if i don't ask or want someone to pray for me.

to me, that's saying that i am wrong and they are right, and they are praying to god that i will see things their way.

Once upon a time there was this stripper that said to me while she was, uh, working, "Pray for me." I in fact had been for quite some time and lo and behold here she was right in front of me.

Who says prayers aren't answered?

Quit School / Encouraged not to go to college/ unit

How many of you had the same type encouragment to go through school that I had? "This will probably be the last year you'll have to go. The end is SO close now." I had that line thrown at me constantly from the time I was halfway through Kinndygarden. It wasn't that I was prodded into quitting but rather told how futile school was and not allowed to pursue anything of interest to me. I would have finished school I'm sure but my senior year was one disaster after another and at school year's end my dad died. I went to work over the summer and that was it for any edumication till I got a GED 14 yrs later. That was just for the hell of it really and is of no value whatsoever.

I've tried getting into going back to school but I just don't seem to have it in me. That whole mindset of "why bother" has proven quite unshakeable. But, to all of you who go back to school for whatever reason I say great!!! You have reason to be proud of yourselves!

yesterday in kansas city, we experienced the largest outbreak of tornadoes in over 20 years.

i am concerned about other members of this forum in the kansas and missouri areas.

did the twisters cause you any damage or heartache?

Just remembered this story. Probably an urbane legend though.

Supposedly years ago (when there weren't no doppler thingys, and fancy color zoom right in to your neighborhood radars) you could tune your telebision to a certain channel and if there was a tornado anywheres near, a horizontal line would show on the screen. Small but getting bigger relative to how close the tornado in question might be. People, it was said, would be in a trance as they watched the line on the screen intently. So intently that a few people were killed by tornadoes they were 'watching' - never having tried to run for shelter.

I heard it but I don't believe it.

My good friend of some 25 years and g/f of about 3 yrs just turned on me one day. I can only hazard guesses what the real reason was. She's done that to others including many in her own family for no real reason whatsoever so I know it wasn't anything I did. In fact, her mother told me it just seems to be her pattern. I saw her (the x) just today. She ignores me and it's just as well because there would be no end to me telling her off if we were to speak. It hurts terribly but some people are just that way.
