Are you people kidding me?

We have a schism in what is probably the loosest confederation in history - JW apostates? How is that even possible?

One important life lesson that I learned while working in food service at a circuit assembly is that there's more than one way to core a head of lettuce.

JWN is one way to help disaffected JWs to find their path out, and AAWA is another.

Why not just pull the bunched-up panties out of your butts and live and let live, for pity's sake?

“However, once the last of the apostles died, the apostasy took root and flourished during a long growing season that lasted for many centuries.

The decision about which writings would make up the Christian Scriptures was not agreed on until the 4th century CE. The decisions were made by the majority of the fathers of the Western Church, driven by the emperors of Rome at the time.

What does the WTS say of those Jews who decided on the list of writings that would be considered to be their Scripture? That process took many centuries as well, possibly not finishing earlier than the first century CE but most likely centuries later.

Watchtower considers the fourth century Church as most notable under the label "apostate" Christianity. Yet, at the same time WT accepts the Bible canon that same church agreed upon and established as our Bible.

So, the bible canon was chosen...BY APOSTATES!!!

AUSTRALIA | Jehovah's Witnesses and Watchtower Society Appear Before Child Abuse Inquiry | Thursday 11 April, 2013

jehovah's witnesses say it is not their responsibility to report child sex abuse to police unless mandatory reporting legislation is in place.. a victorian inquiry on thursday heard that when a jehovah's witness leader hears allegations of abuse they are directed immediately to contact the society's legal department to check their obligations under state law.. jehovah's witness legal counsel rachel van witsen said elders were not expected to know their legal obligations.. "this is done to ensure elders fully comply with any legal requirements that may be applicable in the state in which they reside," she said.. "in victoria if there was mandatory reporting the immediate advice would be to report that immediately.".

the society's director terrence o'brien said the decision to take the allegations to police lay with the victim.. "without mandatory reporting we don't feel that as ministers of religion that's our obligation to do that," mr o'brien said.. however, the organisation would encourage the victim to report it and would co-operate fully with police, he said.. ms van witsen said elders would make an exception if they felt the child was threatened.. "we would report that to appropriate authorities," she told the inquiry.. "we're about stopping child abuse.".

When I was teenager going DtoD I would defend JW doctrine to vicars and other Ministers of religion, not brilliantly I bet, but to the point where we agreed to differ.

I doubt many adult JW's could defend present doctine in that way, if they even know what it is.

It was a simpler and more genuine faith that was encouraged when I was baptised as a pre-teen (by a few months), I was baptised vowing that I would serve god as he explained he wanted me to through Jesus and the Bible, we did not defend an Organization, but our own faith that we had proved to ourselves from the Bible, albeit that our understanding of the Bible was warped by the WT's input.

In those early days I don't remember any saying that a teaching was "too deep" to understand, such expressions came later when things got more and more convoluted.

I can completely relate to that. Many young people my age couldn't defend their faith.

new light on FDS and 1914

the society claims now, that before 1914/1919 there was no fds, this means also, russel was not part of it, he was not the channel from god.. then the calculation for 1914, which russel made popular and promoted, was done in a time, when god revealed actually nothing, does this prepare the way to finally dump 1914 chronology ?

approaching the 100 year anniversary for christs supposed rulership, it becomes anyway more and more ridicolous.. i know, some argue 1914 is essential for their being chosen 1919, but now they say, they are somehow not appointed over the belongings yet, so also this aspect looses significance.

and the inspection of the temple can begin anytime anyway, it was convinient to link it to 1914 but i think its not really necessary.

I too wonder whether they'd totally get rid of 1914, undermining their claim for authority.

I think the "fade" idea makes sense.

They'd release a new book to use in bible studies, since the Bible Teach book preaches that Bible Students foretold 1914, and henceforth start using less overt language about it...

I wonder what will be released this year...

Seems those four directors voted to give Rutherford full control as President. Then, once they saw he was going to be a tyrant, they wanted to repeal the bylaws and restore the sharing of authority amongst the members of the board. They didn't even want him to stop being President of the Society, they just wanted to go back to what the gameplan was based on C.T. Russell's will, which was for the 7-member board of directors to make decisions together. Rutherford used his legal knowledge to have it declared that they weren't legally members of the board of directors at all, then gave them the boot and put his own people on the board so he'd have no one who would challenge him on anything.

Aha, thanks sd-7, full control. That is what I've been thinking since last October. Rutherford had full control of what went in the publications. He had full control when in 1919 Jesus supposedly appointed the FDS.

So that nonsense that "there have always been anointed brothers at world headquarters" and "when these work together to provide spiritual food they become the FDS", which is on the annual meeting report on jw.org, is nothing more than a smokescreen to cover up the fact that as you elegantly put it Rutherford was the one who had FULL CONTROL of the publications. There was no governing body. Rutherford was the one "on hand" back then, so basically he was the first "faithful and discreet slave".

And then as Cedars expertly pointed out the apostolic succession principle ensures that once he had that office, all his heirs and successors inherited it too. It just took them 93/4 years to figure that out.

i was surprised to see a letter stating the dc for michigan would be held at the local assembly hall instead of the big convention center in ohio where it had been held the past few years.
