Starting about noon, Elijah began to tease them: "Shout louder! "He's a god, so maybe he's busy. "Maybe he's relieving himself. "Maybe he's busy someplace. "Maybe he's taking a nap and somebody needs to wake him up." -

all you've got is your view
On the contrary, all humanity has got are objective facts, such as the problem of natural evil and the internal contradictions of books written before any knowledge of plate tectonics which cause tsunamis that drown a quarter of a million people.
Religion has had plenty of time, millenia, to come up with a satisfactory answer to theodicy, and it hasn't because it can't. -

Do you still believe in God?
by FormerlySandL ini never thought i would admit it, but i don't.
i might superstitiously have some kind of doubt but digging a bit deeper in my heart i really don't believe in god.
as a human i could never just sit and watch people be tortured, live years of abuse, suffer from illness and disabilities and all the other awful things people have to endure day after day without doing something about it.

I wish someone had gotten in my face 35 years ago and given me something to think about . . .
Ditto. I remember the times my 'worldly' friends at work would ask questions about my beliefs back then and when I couldn't justify them. Simple questions, but once you get thinking and follow the evidence where it leads you then there is no going back. -

Does God judge people on their physical aspects?
by pseudoxristos inyears ago, i attempted to discuss this topic with jehovah's witnesses in another discussion group.
looking back on the discussion, i found that i was never able to really get to the bottom of the subject.
i've never really understood witnesses belief in the spiritual aspect of humans without some belief in a soul (or spirit).

For some reason this thread made me remember the quote 'do androids dream of electric sheep?' or something like it. -

What's the point?
by punkofnice ini mean, i don't want to be miserable or anything, but what's the bloody point of it all?.
since i left the watchtower cult, i have come to realise that god cannot possibly exist...and if a god exists...god is indifferent to humankind as the least.. in 100 years time i'll be gone.
kaput.

To create, to achieve. To leave our mark in the world before we quickly leave as we will. To do good to others, as has been said, perhaps even helping them avoid the pitfalls we may have had experience of. To enjoy the good things in life, like food, sex, beer, and friendship, to name but a few. To laugh at the misfortunes of others. To find what our talents are and to work on them, to best ourselves. To have fun, to enjoy great literature, poetry, language, irony. Have I already said laugh at the misfortunes of others? -

Are JW Celebrities Getting paid to say they are JW?
by Luther bertrand ini have always wondered why prince and michael jackson stayed in good standing for some of the stuff they released as jws?
or how the williams sisters could stay in sports without all the bs?
after all the revelations about the org that i have heard... i wonder if they are paid and the reason they get away with it is that they are pr strategies and really they could give a crap about the org?

They do have to exemplify JW lifestyle to promote.
Well, their latest music video seems to be promoting something completely contradictory to what they preached decades ago about staying single and giving god your best and serving where the need is great and all that.
It seems to be more a case of 'if you're rich you can do what you want' rather than a clever PR ploy of using celebrities to attract people to the religion. Scientology has beaten them to it. -

All Hail Our Robot Overlords
by Coded Logic inabsolutely amazing how fast this technology is advancing.
at the darpa challenge last year the robots could hardly walk up right and it took them ten minutes to walk through an open door frame.
now they're running around outside and opening doors like a pack of velociraptors!

It's not hard to picture some of those DARPA robots wielding a gun being sent in to clear a building.
Exactly, and there had been news reports saying the US Army had planned to use some of those robots to carry loads.
Also, if drones can be used to bomb terrorists....
