It's pretty clear, based on the text in the Gospels and Epistles, that Jesus founded a religion.

Do you think Jesus WANTED to be turned into a religion?
by humbled instuff that has happened to me and people of other religions that i've met and read about--it makes me wonder if the caretakers of "holy writings" haven't bent us with their theology and pedantry.. i don't think jesus wanted us to make a religion.. he offered an experience of faith that was first and foremost an invitation.
the gospels--even if half diluted with error can't dispel the experiences we feel if we accept these words at face value: john 7:17-18.. i can't stay on- going to doctors today.. thanks.
maeve.

LaidOff Bethelites: Weeping And Gnashing of Teeth
by metatron indon't let any of the watchtower's propaganda deceive you.
i encountered some private conversations among witnesses about the subject and it's ugly.
yes, there is suffering as many of these victims try to live on charity and can't find jobs in the worst economy since the depression.. some of their private observations include shock that you need a college degree for nearly any job and that the watchtower society couldn't have picked a worse time to do this to them .. all the while these complaints are discussed, i try not to show that i am astounded by their bizarre "logic".

CthulhuwasRIGHT doesn't think anyone has commented on the TERRIBLE example that the laid-off Bethelites are displaying, to the members of whichever congregations they've been sent to!!
I mean - say you're a young person in a congregation where a laid-off Bethelite has been assigned. You watch as they struggle to survive, living hand-to-mouth on the charities of the Rank&File members of the congregation, observe their humiliation as they have to obtain the WORST sort of employment - with teenagers as their 'competition' for burger-flipping jobs and worse...
Then, when the Watchtower Society yowls once again about the "evils" of higher education, would you, as a young Jehovah's Witness, listen to them??? -

True to his name sake, he spoke about caring for the poor and the natural world.
The vocation of being a "protector", however, is not just something involving us Christians alone; it also has a prior dimension which is simply human, involving everyone. It means protecting all creation, the beauty of the created world, as the Book of Genesis tells us and as Saint Francis of Assisi showed us. It means respecting each of God's creatures and respecting the environment in which we live. It means protecting people, showing loving concern for each and every person, especially children, the elderly, those in need, who are often the last we think about. It means caring for one another in our families: husbands and wives first protect one another, and then, as parents, they care for their children, and children themselves, in time, protect their parents. It means building sincere friendships in which we protect one another in trust, respect, and goodness. In the end, everything has been entrusted to our protection, and all of us are responsible for it. Be protectors of God's gifts! - Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
- Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
- Where there is injury, pardon;
- Where there is doubt, faith;
- Where there is despair, hope;
- Where there is darkness, light;
- Where there is sadness, joy.
- O Divine Master,
- grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console;
- to be understood, as to understand;
- to be loved, as to love.
- For it is in giving that we receive.
- It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
- and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.
- Amen.
One of my favorite hymns, based on St. Francis canticle of the sun:
All creatures of our God and King,
lift up your voices, let us sing:
Alleluia, alleluia!
Thou burning sun with golden beams,
thou silver moon that gently gleams,
Refrain:
O praise him, O praise him,
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
Thou rushing wind that art so strong,
ye clouds that sail in heaven along,
O praise him, Alleluia!
Thou rising morn, in praise rejoice,
ye lights of evening, find a voice, (R)
Thou flowing water, pure and clear,
make music for thy Lord to hear,
Alleluia, alleluia!
Thou fire so masterful and bright,
that givest man both warmth and light, (R)
Dear mother earth, who day by day
unfoldest blessings on our way,
O praise him, Alleluia!
The flowers and fruits that in thee grow,
let them his glory also show: (R)
And all ye men of tender heart,
forgiving others, take your part,
O sing ye Alleluia!
Ye who long pain and sorrow bear,
praise God and on him cast your care: (R)
And thou, most kind and gentle death,
waiting to hush our latest breath,
O praise him, Alleluia!
Thou leadest home the child of God,
and Christ our Lord the way hath trod: (R)
Let all things their Creator bless,
and worship him in humbleness,
O praise him, Alleluia!
Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son,
and praise the Spirit, Three in One: (R) -

The previous thread page is a mess. Proof that the Catholic Church is trying to corrupt this site.

You can be queer as folk and receive Communion. Being homosexual isn't a sin in the Catholic Church. Having a porn addiction isn't a sin. Having a hankering to drop a nuclear payload into your buddy's wife isn't a sin. Fucking loving cocaine isn't a sin. Prefering to leave the toilet seat up or not wiping it isn't a sin. Wanting to take a lead pipe to your boss' brain box isn't a sin. Being alcoholic isn't a sin either. And even if you screw up, there's Reconciliation on Saturday. All you gotta do is mean it.

Transitional Fossils indicate early birds flew on four wings - Nature
by cantleave insorry it's cut and paste ...................... .
nature 14 march 2013modern birds have two fewer wings than their ancestors.. instead of two wings, the first birds might have used four feathered limbs to stay aloft, according to research published today in science1.birdlike dinosaurs, such as microraptor and sinornithosaurus, are known to have had long, sturdy feathers on their hindlimbs2.
but until now, researchers were not sure whether the earliest birds had already abandoned this extra plumage when they emerged to take to the cretaceous skies over 100 million years ago.. the researchers, led by xing xu, a palaeontologist at the institute of geology and paleontology in shandong, china, found evidence of feathers on the hindlimbs of 11 basal bird specimens (gathered from the lower cretaceous jehol group in china)3. on some of the individuals, these feathers appeared to be veined flight feathers that stood perpendicular to the leg bones, similar to those in the basal bird archaeopteryx.. one specimen, attributed to the sapeornis genus, had at least one hindlimb feather longer than 50 millimetres.

Seems like it could be a lot of semantics to me. Modern birds have a bunch of primary feathers used for flying sticking out behind, and yet we generally don't call it a wing.

How staged does THAT photo look?
It serves a didactic purpose--to teach. He imitated Jesus, who washed his disciple's feet to teach them that they should humbly serve others.
He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?” Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.” “No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.”....
....I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.
St. Francis once said: Preach the Gospel always, if necessary use words. What Bergoglio did on that occasion was teach the Christian message without words.

‘Bergoglio had no links with the dictatorship,’ Peace Nobel Prize winner
Peace Nobel Prize winner Adolfo Pérez Esquivel, assured today that elected pope Jorge Bergoglio "had no links with the dictatorship” that ruled Argentina between the years 1976-1983 as he’s been accused for many years.
Speaking to BBC News, Perez Esquivel said that “there were bishops who were accomplices of the dictatorship, but it was not the case of Bergoglio.”
“Bergoglio was questioned because it is said he did not do enough to get out of jail two priests, as he was the Superior of the Jesuits. But I know personally that many bishops called on the military junta for the release of prisoners and priests and these requests were not granted”, said Perez Esquivel.
