Poor blighter. You've lost 30% of the value of your investment in the past 6 months. Silver is now at its October 2010 price.
And AAPL's down over 30% in the last few months too. If he's holding long term who cares? It isn't a loss unless he sells.
not trying to sound like a conpiracy nut...but just read this article:.

is this just a lot of talk?

I think a lot of that music is great, but I guess it's in the eye of the beholder.
But familiarity plays a role too. You've heard this stuff over and over again. It often takes multiple listenings to "grok" good music.
By the way, I think Led Zep is over rated. They did more than a small amount of plagiarism in their music.

I'm trying to work out if the Osmunds 'puppy love' is more or less vomit inducing than Biebers 'baby baby baby'. Both are from sickening manufactured teen 'heartthrobs' and are about as deep as a puddle of rainwater. Does the fact that one is from the seventies magically give it musical credibility? Both make me want to cut my own ears off.
Music is as diverse and interesting now as it has ever been, if you choose to judge modern music by what is in the charts then you would have to judge music from previous generations by the same criteria. Every great artist or track out there is standing out from a sea of mediocrity, and that is before you start to think about the fact that most artists have low and high points to their career.
So if you want to start with some musical giants of the seventies, how about the village people? That track 'Macho man' really stands out as a shining example of the songwriters craft.
Great point, Caedes. No one remembers that 70s crap. They remember the good stuff. There's a lot of selective memory at work.

It seems that kids consume and bond w whatever music is put in front of them. We were lucky that we just happened to be there when musical creativity was on a high. 'Course, i could be biased.
Yep. You are. You bonded with the music of that time, because that was the music of your time. Doesn't necessarily make it better, though.

"Music these days sucks!" "It's so confusing!"
JUSTIN BIEBER! (as if every period didn't have shitty popular artists)
This thread is chock full of close minded, over the hill, old farts. You are all stuck on the music of your youth. That's sort of natural, because it ties into your formative experiences....but realize that.
The music these days is GREAT! It's probably better than it has been in 30 years.
On my playlist right now:
Silversun Pickups
Electric Guest
Civil Twilight
Zulu WInter
The Strokes
Middle Class Rut
Julian Casablancas
Grouplove
Kings of Leon
Black Keys
Foals
Miami Horror
Fuse
Justice
MillionYoung
Born Ruffians
STRFKR
Niki and the Dove
Grimes
Imagine Dragons
Artctic Monkeys
Young the Giant
The Killers
Passion Pit
The Hours
Here We Go Magic
And there's so much more good recent music out there...it's CONFUSING because it is an EMBARASSMENT OF RICHES! Lots of fantastic Indie bands.
The Grammy's this year had several great artists performing, by the way. fun. Lumineers. Mumford and sons. Etc.

MUSIC - Giants of the Past V Wimps of the Present .. are kids losing out ?
Stupidest thread title ever. Music is as good as, if not better than, it has ever been.
he is accused of performing "abortions" after the birth of live babies.
where does planned parenthood stand on this case?.
.
just recently, some scientists managed to sequence neanderthal dna.
while this discovery is not totally explored at this point, the following data are quite solid.. using different techniques, two teams of scientists separately sequenced large chunks of dna extracted from the femur of a 38,000-year-old neanderthal specimen found in a cave [image] 26 years ago in croatia.
one team sequenced more than one million base pairs and the other 65,000 pairs of the genome.. .
I saw a documentary about how the neanderthals may have died out. According to one theory tha Neanderthals were more muscular had shorter legs and had no waistline. they lived in forest areas. They hunted with heavy spears and crept up on the animal being hunted. The spear was not thrown but thrust into the animal at close quarters.
Homo Heidelbergensis is believed to have made very good throwing spears, and they are considered to be a common ancestor to Neanderthals and Sapiens. They were javelin throwers.
