Our Own Conference
by Valis ini know there are conferences that xjws attend, but since i ran accross joy castro's writings and new book today it got me thinking about the subject.
something non-religious in nature.....well as non religious as xjws can get anyway lol.
i think it would be cool if we could have people like her, kimberly norris, bryan, donald, and so many of the others that have done stuff for us.

On a macro level, the Witnesses are pretty harmless
by logansrun inwarning: this post may be damaging to your biases.. it seems to me that the "danger" the witnesses pose to larger society is, well, pretty damn small.
just think about it: the witnesses are almost not involved in politics at all, except the occassional "freedom of religion and speech" issues they take to various courts, issues i am happy to support the witnesses in, even if i strongly disagree with their beliefs.
you will not see jws supporting banning abortions or gay marriages or a whole host of other civil liberties and freedoms that evangelicals rally around like the village people searching for frankenstein's monster.

greetings John...I guess my point is that there is nothing the Witnesses can claim as uniquely good versus say you and I acting like good persons toward each other and those that we interact with every day. If there are no particularly outstanding virtues they solely posses then I will certainly not ascribe anything "good" to them as a group. Sure there are good people who are Witnesses I would not doubt that. I would alsosay yes there is plenty of vitriol in regards the group and some individuals who have done bad things, but when those bad things by individuals are not addressed by the larger group, spoken about openly and fixed then the group is no better than their most offensive member. Just my two cents.

GAH! I had something like that happen to me several years ago...I poked a big hole in my foot and it took me several months to recover...just about the time I could inch down the stairs I fell and broke the big toe on my other foot! And just as I was preparing to go to Mexico for vacation...Have you ever seen someone snorkel with one fin on? Round and round we go! lol...

I agree Brenda about too many things going on at once. One of my interests though is to provide a variety of subjects which I think is important if we're gonna do it right. BTW, I got an initial response from Dr. Bergman today which is a good thing.

My only rule is that if the child disobeys me and puts themself in danger then a spanking may soon follow. Otherwise it is the dreaded timeout with no gameboy, no TV, no toys, no juice box, nada for as long as I deem necessary. The last time I spanked was maybe a year or two? My youngest child was playing too near the street corner and I told her to get back and come closer to where we were sitting in the front yard. As sassy as she is she smiled and stood there taunting...well I got up to fetch her and then she darted right into the street...scared the crap out of me and yeah my palm was introduced to her backside. She never did it again. I got spanked sometimes when I was a kid and I still remember some, but the thing I remember most is the anger that seemed to seeth when some of the whippings with belts occured. I make a conscious effort to never be that way with them.
This is us having a timeout on 4th of July weekend. I think this one was for interrupting mommy repeatedly while she was one the phone..

Why is it so hard for some of you to even admit that the there are some genuine good aspects to being a JW and that some JWs can indeed be happy? I think I know why. Because you got burned. Because you're an overgeneralizer. Because that's the fucked up nature of a human being.
Why don't you give me a list of things specific to being a JW that cannot be found outside their own closed system? Then we can discuss what is genuine in terms of as you say being human, or a "good" human for that matter. Sure some JWs can be happy as individuals, but when you have a large group, and I would say the 6 million number is good enough, that takes no responsibility for their actions then that is a detriment to society. I would also like to point out their dealings in Brooklyn. The DUMBO fight involving the revitalization of that area and the WTBTS. Are they helping their community by building what is essentially another cloister for Bethelites? Will it be open to the public or benefit the citizens of NYC? Not one bit!
