Hi AllTimeJeff,
God may not have shown up the way you expect, but His works are easily discernible to those who want to see. Here is an example of one of former atheists:
“The God of the Bible is also the God of the genome. He can be worshiped in the cathedral or in the laboratory. His creation is majestic, awesome, intricate, and beautiful.” (The Language of God: A Scientist Presents Evidence for Belief (2006), p. 211, Francis S Collins)
“I was an atheist, finding no reason to postulate the existence of any truths outside of mathematics, physics and chemistry. But then I went to medical school, and encountered life and death issues at the bedsides of my patients. Challenged by one of those patients, who asked "What do you believe, doctor?", I began searching for answers. (cnn.com)
Here is his most famous quote: “It's a happy day for the world. It is humbling for me, and awe-inspiring, to realize that we have caught the first glimpse of our own instruction book, previously known only to God” (The Language of God) He is a physician-geneticist, noted for his landmark discoveries of disease genes, and his administration of the Human Genome Project (HGP). He is the former director of the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) and current director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
