  Joining a Church and advice from co-workers!!!!!!!!!!

  so im obviously out mentally....i havent da-ed but i cant care less!

  but.....my co workers are encouraging me to find and join a church.

  this person is particularly "wisdomonian" meaning she seems to solve and assist many an ailing indicidual in my field.

  i find it odd that the district overseer today made.

  1. zero yes 0 references to the fds in any of his talks.. 2.he also told elders that the brothers worship god and not them.so therefore the elders have no authority to order the friends around.. 3. he also talked about the stanford prison study and said that people who receive authority over others often abuse it.

  4. he mentioned that when he disagrees with the branch (aka the fds) he's learned to just do what they say.

  i was told a very heartbreaking story last night.

  one of my childhood friends adopted two kids from africa several years ago.

  these kids have had very severe anger management issues and have been in regular therapy.

  I was told a very heartbreaking story last night. One of my childhood friends adopted two kids from Africa several years ago. These kids have had very severe anger management issues and have been in regular therapy. After more than three years, the reason just now came to light. These kids were kidnapped from their homes and Africa and sold to an orphanage. They were both old enough to remember. From there, they were legally adopted to live here in the United States. The orphanage has recently been closed down and the guilty will soon be tried in court. My friend and her husband were able to locate and contact the parents of the kids, and the kids have been conversing with them. Of course, both sets of families are beside themselves. To top it off, Africa will not accept the kids back because they were legally adopted. What advice could possibly be given in this sad situation?

  is there any biblical event that has a universally accepted date on which it occurred?

  i'm intrigued by the whole "bible chronology" topic, but have never really dug into it because to put any of it together you need a historically reliable starting point.

  this wasn't a problem as a practicing jw because you just assumed their dates were right.

  i would like for someone to give me one event described in the bible that is universally established and accepted historically that i can use as a reliable starting point.

  I believe 539 B.C. is the accepted date for Cyrus conquering Babylon. I think 537 was an assumption that it took a couple years for the Israelites to return and is really meaningless. Someone more knowledgable please feel free to correct me.

  wtbts published a new article on jw.org (http://www.jw.org/en/bible-teachings/questions/daniel-4-bible-chronology-1914/) entitled "what does bible chronology indicate about the year 1914?

  " in it, it points to daniel 4 as the prophecy and uses the same leaps of insane logic to get from the first and only fulfillment of that prophecy to 1914, using 607 as the starting point and 2,520 years as doubling the 1,260 years in revelation.

  of course, there is no accounting for the difference in our solar years and the bible's lunar years, which makes the math have a very different outcome.

  We all know that jwfacts has info on this. At the bottom of one of the pages on this topic, there are extra links such as Carl Olof Jonnson's rebuttals to the WT's arguments against his book. Great stuff! The key in discussion is getting them to admit "if" 70 years of desolation could possibly mean something else that still lines up with scientific data.

  I see the logic on both the offense and defense on this one. Then again, it's like showing the verse that explicitly says that the great crowd is in heaven and getting a blank stare in return.

  On a side note, the JW who comes to my house says over and over that nothing was said about 1975 even though he was baptized before then. I keep bringing it up suggesting that I'm pretty sure it was. Still complete denial. And yes, I am familiar with all of the things actually mentioned about '75. I have to plant seeds by playing dumb or he won't come back.

  The most stumped I ever had him using just the Bible was taking him through all the "first and lasts" and "Alpha and Omega" in Isaiah and Revelation. He didn't come back for 8 months, so I have had to be more subtle now.

  I used the lunar/solar argument at times until one knowledgable JW noted that every so often the Jews add an extra month into their year to compensate. Here is a quote below from http://www.jewfaq.org/calendar.htm

  "To compensate for this drift, the Jewish calendar uses a 12-month lunar calendar with an extra month occasionally added. The month of Nissan occurs 11 days earlier each year for two or three years, and then jumps forward 30 days, balancing out the drift. In ancient times, this month was added by observation: the Sanhedrin observed the conditions of the weather, the crops and the livestock, and if these were not sufficiently advanced to be considered "spring," then the Sanhedrin inserted an additional month into the calendar to make sure that Pesach (Passover) would occur in the spring (it is, after all, referred to in the Torah as Chag he-Aviv, the Festival of Spring!).

  A year with 13 months is referred to in Hebrew as Shanah Me'uberet (pronounced shah-NAH meh-oo-BEH-reht), literally: a pregnant year. In English, we commonly call it a leap year. The additional month is known as Adar I, Adar Rishon (first Adar) or Adar Alef (the Hebrew letter Alef being the numeral "1" in Hebrew). The extra month is inserted before the regular month of Adar (known in such years as Adar II, Adar Sheini or Adar Beit). Note that Adar II is the "real" Adar, the one in which Purim is celebrated, the one in which yahrzeits for Adar are observed, the one in which a 13-year-old born in Adar becomes a Bar Mitzvah.   In the fourth century, Hillel II established a fixed calendar based on mathematical and astronomical calculations. This calendar, still in use, standardized the length of months and the addition of months over the course of a 19 year cycle, so that the lunar calendar realigns with the solar years. Adar I is added in the 3rd, 6th, 8th, 11th, 14th, 17th and 19th years of the cycle."

  That said, the whole 607/1914 thing is still a bunch of bunk.
