  Yea, gotta agree with Loris here.

  The friends are told that the subscriptions ending is further "simplifying" of matters. The JWs buy it, no problem. They even speculate(with a little help) that Jehovah has given indication to the GB that things are getting closer to the end. Those on the outside(ie apostates, etc) read consipiracy. The WTS doesn't want the magazines falling into just anyone's(read apostates) hands. But now the truth comes out. It was the almighty dollar that did it. It was going to cost more to "spread the good news of the kingdom" so to save $$$ they discontinue the subscriptions and tell the friends to pick up mags at the hall. Their hypocrisy knows no bounds.

  has anyone here ever brought a never a jw spouse or significant other to a kh function like a wedding, funeral, or even a meeting?

  how did they react?

  or have you ever had your spouse or significant other express concern that you might rejoin the borg after going back to the kh for a family event?.

  Workmates came to a family member's wedding at the hall. They asked why we couldn't afford a "nicer" building if there were so many JWs in town.

  What really go them though, was the wedding talk. The part on the wife's part in respecting her husband and how he is the head and she must submit to him, blah, blah, blah. For days at work they went on about that. Partly making fun of it, partly ridiculing it. "Yea, tell that to my wife" was the common sarcastic thread. They came to the reception, there was no alcohol, they were pretty much ignored by everyone, they left.

  What does your online handle mean?

  a few of us use our real names as our handles, but most of us use something else, such as a nickname or a variation of our real name.

  iiz2cool - it was not my nickname (i really don't think i'm all that cool), but that of an old friend named mike prezelj.

  i won't go into how he got the name, but it happened when we were all very high, and you had to be there to understand.

  When I first posted here, I was pretty nervous about it. I was inactive in service, but still going to meetings. I had doubts but something inside me knew not to ask the elders. So I turned to the *gasp* Internet. I knew this was wrong in the eyes of the WTS, so I knew I had to be very discreet and not let on to anyone my feelings or my actions. I would like to change it sometime, but I don't feel like starting over on my post count.

  Update on study with Elder....

  i took the advice of the forum and informed him i wouldlike to study the bible.

  he arrived case in hand and pulled out the draw close to jehovah publication.. i said i thought we were going to study the bible...he then said well this is a bible publication...i said has not past publications contained errors and changes in teachings while the bible remains true.

  he said yesssss.......do you have something inparticular you want to look at in the bible.....i said i thought we could start in matthew and work our way through.

  Wow. Good job. And you're getting a CO visit. Do you mean Circuit Overseer or Congregation Overseer?

  I had a meeting with an elder that was similar to yours('cept you handled yours much better'n I did mine). The elder said he would do some research and get back with me. The next week was the CO(Circuit) visit. I eagerly anticipated a phone call all week, knowing that the elder would bring him to my house. Not a peep. Haven't heard a thing out of any of them since and that was 4 months ago.

  The Society Wrote Back To Me

  ok the background to this story , i wrote to the german bethel, with a screen capture of their web site, where they still promote the pre 1995 definition of the "generation".

  i wrote on the premise that i fell away due to this change in 1995 and what is their stance now as i would like to start studying again lmao ( i did tell a few personal white lies, theocratic warfare right?, in order that they felt they could write back to me ).....................never thought they would write back, it took them nearly four weeks to reply, interestingly enough, there is an email address on the letter, my letter is first, so you can get the gist, then their "exact" reply, (with the help of "germanjw" for translation purposes,many thanksgjw ).

  What I find amazing is, they DID NOT even try to encourage you a LITTLE bit about studying again. No ENCOURAGEMENT AT ALL.

  I agree with R-man. They probably guessed someone was looking to make an issue out of "the change in doctrine". The response was actually kind of snide. Well, not kinda, it was. Why answer it at all, if they were'nt going to do any better than that?

  every one of us who attended the kingdom hall, must have went through this at some time, and noticed things you were not supposed to do, even though it wasn't wrong.

  the biggie at our hall was do not sit in the back row, i always did, what was the deal on that, why put chairs there.

  - don't back you car in, someone would go out and check this nightly, ???.

  Note: You couldn't have a congregation get-together unless it was approved by the elders.

  Note: The elders wouldn't approve said get-together without word from the Society.

  Note: Said gathering obviously didn't happen.

  And that's why most congregations don't have get-togethers, barbecues, picnics anymore. Large gatherings are bad, BAD. They are not to be sanctioned by the congregation. Some one individual or family had to be responsible and since paranoia reigns supreme, most dubs did not want that responsibility.

  When I was a kid, congregation picnics were held several times a year and was well attended. It made the cong. feel like a family. Now if two or three families get together for a "party" and the elders find out, questions are raised and informal investigation is performed to make sure no christian principles were comprimised.

  Condolences to all the abused people with a direct stake in these suits.

  And all others abused.

  Too bad most JWs won't read or listen to these stories, much less believe them. Remember the "Beware of Strangers" part at the DC? They said to not believe the negative news coming from the news media. The world's media is controlled by Satan. Don't listen to any thing negative about the witnesses from any source. Why, it's almost like they knew it was coming!(insert sarcastic voice here).

  we have the group who is pro-trying-to-bringing-down-the-wt and the group that is anti-trying-to-bring-down-the wt.

  of course we have a bunch of independents, too.

  But isn't it great that you have the freedom to think and express those thoughts? While XJWs will have arguments and disagreements, it shows that free will and thinking are alive and well in them. Go see if you can find a JW with that priviledge.

  WTF??? I always backed in, so that after the meeting I could pull straight out and not worry about running over all the kids playing in the parking lot.

  A lot of the other rules seem to carry nationwide(at least in the US).

  Last two rows for people with small children(But wait, aren't we not supposed to have kids?).

  Sideburns/facial hair outlawed.

  Too short skirts/too tight dresses/too low cut blouses always a big no-no.

  Too wild or colorful of ties outlawed. Keep your jacket on the entire meeting, even when not being used that day.

  One congregation I was in, the elders had a fit over the brothers wearing too short of overcoats in the rain/winter. They felt that we should all wear 3/4 or full length trench coat style coats/jackets.

  Another problem is the elder who thinks he can tell Brother UpAndComingMS because he is a man and almost an elder.

  That's how I knew what was always going on in our cong. I was an MS, one that some of the elders thought well of. So in when in service, elders invariably would tell me things that they shouldn't. I knew who was getting DF'd and why. I knew who was having marital problems and why(usually infidelity). I knew whose kids were getting busted by the cops. Etc, etc. After being deleted as an MS, I never knew what was going on anymore and actually preferred it that way. All that other stuff was none of my business and it was never upbuilding to hear it. Even before I started having serious doubts and doing the fade, I was glad that I was out of that loop.
