I don't need any help from a Watchtower magazine to defy the WTBTS, thank you very much. I'm quite capable of defying them on my own

2520-607 = 1913
by schnell ini love math, i love calendars, and somehow, this always gets me.. 2520 - 607 = 1913. not 1914.. 2520 - 606 = 1914. from what i understand, russell realized this.
he had previously used 606 bc, of course, but then he switched it to 607 bc.
i know there was something about no zero year, so it actually should be less one, correct?.

As ATJeff said, "Don't look for logic where it never existed". It's a hamster wheel of a pointless exercise, to try to make sense of WT doctrines.
If JWs ever had an 'escape room' team building exercise, and were to use clues throughout the room to explain the 2520 years in order to unlock the door, they'd still be locked up a year from now...

Religion...is regarded by the rulers as useful
by flipper inlucius annaeus seneca, roman statesman, 4bc - 65ad: "religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful.".
this comes to mind as trump has been throwing the word "god" around.
there are a lot of outwardly religious people in this government.. benjamin franklin: "the way to see faith is to shut the eye of reason.".

Did you know that the first Matrix was designed to be a perfect human world? Where none suffered, where everyone would be happy. It was a disaster. No one would accept the program. Entire crops were lost. Some believed we lacked the programming language to describe your perfect world. But I believe that, as a species, human beings define their reality through suffering and misery. The perfect world was a dream that your primitive cerebrum kept trying to wake up from. Which is why the Matrix was redesigned to this: the peak of your civilization.

What's preventing YOU from stopping meeting attendance?
by nicolaou inwe all 'exit' in our own way and at our own pace but i'm curious, why carry on stuffing yourself into that stiff suit and tie or meeting dress years after you realised the truth about 'the truth'?.
they kept you a prisoner, what's stopping you from leaving now that you have the key to your own cell?.
loved ones?

I was lucky in a way. I was already mostly inactive when the light bulb first went off. Not that I faded completely out unscathed. There were elder visits, 'concerned friends' trying to 'encourage' me. Family members 'taking me aside' and trying to 'talk sense' to me.
By the time I was gone gone, no one really paid me much mind anymore though. I had raised just enough questions that it was clear I was not going to 'go quietly into that good night', and instead of harassing me, and trying to prove a point, they let me be. The downside to that is that I'm not officially DFd or DAd, just gone. I still have family in, I still see old JW 'friends' occasionally, not that we associate, but run into them (it's a small enough city, it's going to happen). So, while some actually shun me, others see the need to try to woo me back.
I took a hands off approach with my wife. She was inactive as well, but not mentally out. I knew better than to force the subject. You have to have your own doubts before you accept the facts about the WTS. So I figured if we stayed inactive, and made a life outside the JWs/KH, she would eventually come around on her own. I only dropped the occasional hint or comment. It hasn't worked. Her JW family keeps the pressure on her, and with the recent election, the fear of Armageddon is back, and she is leaning toward returning. I fear a showdown is in the near future.

JWs in Russia- "Pray for those in prison"
by NikL inlast night at the midweek meeting was a part titled "pray for those in prison" or something like that.. they showed a video all about the witnesses in russia and the court battles they've been fighting of late and the hard time they have been having because of it all.. the first thing that struck me, hey, why don't you a** holes in brooklyn send these poor sods a few rubles to help them along?.
nah!
prayer is what they need.. anyway, i hadn't really followed the story so i thought i would look it up this morning and see what was in the media about the story.. on the npr website they had a big write up about it back in may of last year.... http://www.npr.org/sections/parallels/2016/05/17/476898973/russias-jehovahs-witnesses-fight-extremist-label-possible-ban.

They showed a video all about the witnesses in Russia and the court battles they've been fighting of late and the hard time they have been having because of it all.Screw all the other 'extremist' religions and sects. Just pray for your fellow Witnesses.
It is troubling that Russia is clamping down on, not just JWs, but any religion/sect that doesn't meet their strict interpretation of what is acceptable worship. But it's also very telling how the WTS ignores the plights of others while encouraging JWs to 'pray for their brothers'. Two thoughts come to mind: 1) no one else's rights/freedoms matter but their own. 2) By advertising this in the KH meetings, it feeds the fears of the collective that they really are in the 'last days'. And that is by design, make no mistake.

Are baptized Witnesses that are no longer in the "truth", but were NEVER DF'D, now to be shunned and treated like disfellowshipped ones?
by Dunedain ina relative of mine was telling me, that in his, and a few neighboring congregations, there is a little confusion amongst some of the jw's about this "issue".
some families are having a hard time about whether certain relatives will be attending certain family functions, because some family members that are no longer in the "truth", might be invited to these functions.
mind you, these persons were never disfellowshipped.

The 2016 convention had several talks that warned against associating with ANY who have become inactive, or faded..as well as "less spiritual ones" still in the congregation.
While it may be worded a little more 'in your face', the actual admonition is not really different from years past. They've always warned against associating with anyone who is 'weak' or 'less spiritual'.
That's not to say they aren't ramping up the rhetoric to instill (more) fear, but stripped down to its essence, it's the same basic tenant as always.
