Are You Objective About Who You Were As a JW?

Are you removed enough that you can see who you were with true objectivity?

I think I can say that I am. It's embarrassing to think about certain aspects of it. On one hand, you own up to it, admit that you were fooled, and part of a cult. The other hand, you admit it, but you cringe at the very thought of some things you said and did.

Being part of a family with active members still in makes it difficult. While some people may only be reminded of their past actions by occasional crazy street preachers, others of us have daily reminders as we watch our JW family continue to blow Jah's bullhorn.

while we may be overjoyed about the bible truths we have learned, our relatives may mistakenly believe that we have been tricked or have become part of a cult.

we should show empathy by trying to see things from their viewpoint and by listening carefully to discern their real concerns.

When I was in, it always bothered me how much effort they seemed to put in to explaining why it wasn't a cult.

I had a similar reaction to one of the magazine covers, while I was still 'in'. In a way, it actually started me on the way to give voice to the doubts in my head. The cover showed a young couple in what was obviously door to door work, and the title was (to the best of my recollection), 'Are Jehovah's Witnesses a Cult', or something similar. That cover and article probably did more to convince me that it was more of a cult than anything I had really paid attention up to that point.

Cart Witnesses Today - I am not impressed

What does it take to qualify for cart/trolley work?

if memory serves me, when it was first introduced elders had to fill out a form to grade a jw, and only those who made the grade could do the carts.. i didn’t realize until sir82 said something on another discussion that the process had changed.. what is the process nowadays?

Notice they equate 'unrepentant wrongdoers' with all 'disfellowshipped' people. If a family member leaves the faith, not due to wrongdoing, but just because they no longer accept the WTS as God's Earthly Organization, then they are to be treated the same as someone who 'sinned' and was removed from the congregation. There is no leeway. Either you're one of us, or you're against us.

Nothing new in it, just pointing it out in case of lurkers...

it says.... questions from readershow do jehovah’s witnesses view voting?there are clear principles set out in the bible that enable servants of god to take a proper view of this matter.

the elders only have to fake it for cos visit, then the poor sheep get shorn for anther 6 months and just when publisher billy thinks the co will save their souls from these tyrants elders a new co comes onto the seen, and of course he is trained only to listen to the elders.

Makes sense to a point...

I'm from an area where multiple congregations exist, and if you stay on the down low, you can go thru JW life not really being known by too many outside your own circle of friends and fellow Hall attenders. I know, 'cause I pretty much did it.

I have family from a small town with one congregation, 4, sometimes 5, elders. Everyone knows everyone. Everyone knows everyone's shit. There are no secrets. There is no privacy. You go out of town, they all know it. You get a speeding ticket, they all know it. You hang out with worldly people in a roadhouse, they all know it. And Elders are quick to 'counsel' and 'advise'. It was so different than my home experience that it felt Orwellian, even when I was still 'in'.

kitchens of that size use industrial dishwashers not sinks and taps to wash up.

the flight-type dishwasher is behind him. Most commercial kitchens have a pre-rinse sink to wash off the bulk before sending it through. I don't doubt that this is Bethel's kitchen dishwashing area, I doubt that he's actually pulling a dishwashing shift, the same as Brother Joe Nobody from Nowhere, KS would be doing.

That is the phoniest most staged crap pic ever. Bull. Shit. As already noted, NOBODY wears long sleeves to wash dishes. Nobody wears french cuffs and cuff links. Nobody wears their nice watch (and i own a few). Bull. Shit.

Gotta agree. Notice the rack going into the dishmachine only has three dishes in it, not full. Notice he's rinsing one item, with one item waiting. And he doesn't have a rack to the right waiting for pre-rinsed items. If he were actually pulling a dishwashing shift, knowing the amount of people they serve, it would be a completely different set up than shown.

Completely staged, or giving him the benefit of the doubt, he's rinsing his own dishes during a midnight snack...

(Not so) Subliminal Shave Your Beard Message

i'm in the middle of dissecting the june 2017 jw broadcasting video.. in the first minute, they summarize a story about a guy who apparently was a one-time bad ass (showed a picture of him with a beard while posing on a chopper).

then, they show him shaving at the exact same moment the narrator is saying how he regained "a clean conscience".. this no-beard obsession by the jws is beyond nuts.. .

...the 'beard rule' is a microcosm of the WTS/JWs. We've latched on to this seemingly innocent thing because it demonstrates the authoritarian rule of the WTS over it's members. One cannot dictate to oneself this simple grooming choice. It has to be made for you. The same for your entertainment choices. Your celebrations. Even your level of education.

When you're inside the religion, and allowing them to control your thinking and actions, you don't think about it. But as soon as you exert your freedom, this one minor thing sticks out as a huge signal that something is wrong with the ruling body of this group.
