I went to a wedding once where instead of rice or confetti, they had kids line up on each side of the walkway with a bottle of bubble stuff and blow bubbles as the bride and groom exited the hall. hmmm, didnt the good witch of the north in Wizard of Oz appear in a bubble?

Post by Ray Franz
by Amazing inray franz requested that i post the following comments written by him:
as has been stated already, the presentation made from the silent lambs source in connection with the child abuse issue completely misrepresents my position.
when i spoke by phone recently with the author of that presentation, and pointed out that i had never expressed the views presented, his comment was that from his previous conversation with me (held some months earlier) he "got the impression that i was not on the same wave length" with him.

In fact your comments reek of jwisims.
Well, I hope they don't reek.
What I was trying to convey, and maybe I didn't do a good job of it, is that JWs or the WTS or whoever, can point to this controversy and say, "look, they don't have Jehovah's spirit. They can't even get along amongst themselves." I'm not saying they are correct in saying that, but they can use it to keep the dubs from being curious about what either Franz or Bowen have to say against the WTS.
You are correct though, in that as we are humans, disagreements are going to happen. Let's just hope that everyone stops short of really mean-spirited, false, angry comments that take away from the real issues.

Up till now, I have not said anything about Silentlambs, Bill Bowen, his comments about Ray Franz or even Ray Franz. I have read the threads and the Silentlambs website and studied what I could about both Bill Bowen and Ray Franz. In my honest newbie opinion, Bill Bowen wants to do the right thing and is trying, but is overwhelmed by the whole thing and maybe, I detect, is a little egotistical. Ray Franz, to me, seems humble, honest and sincere in everything he does. Mr. Franz chooses not to be involved in reform as Mr. Bowen sees that it should be done. Mr. Bowen should have let it go. Mr. Franz has stated his position, one that makes good sense, to me anyway. Mr. Bowen seems to have let up on what some have called "his attack" on Mr. Franz. I think he's willing to move on, but so many here won't let it die. The worst thing about this is that it makes "apostates" look just like the WTS paints them, unrighteous, division causing, trouble-makers.

After-meeting conversations
by Gopher into be able to properly "encourage one another, more so as you behold the end drawing near", we as jw's were instructed to do the following: .
(1) stay after the meeting for "upbuilding association", and .
(2) rather than talk about mundane things of life, discuss the finer points of the meeting just held.

I remember people trying to provoke spiritual conversations, whether after a meeting or during service. Not stimulating, spiritual discussions in trying to reason on why we believe what we believe but the mundane, boring, contrived conversations. "I sure will be glad when Armagedon gets here." "Isn't the wickedness bad? I'm sure we're in the last days." "Isn't brother (insert name of most obnoxious elder here) wonderful? He has such a way with words on the platform." I learned to never be one on one with these people. I looked for my buddies so we could argue about our favorite sports teams. Our discussions about that were much more animated than any talk we ever gave. We always pre-arranged our car groups so that we would never be stuck with the weirdos, FPs or FEs(future pioneers/future elders). Sometimes I felt guilty in that my conversation was never "spiritual" but then I would look around and notice that most everybody elses(normal ones anyway) wasn't either so I figured I was normal after all.

Social retards
by Simon ini've been thinking a lot recently about the interaction between people in the exjw community and it seem to me that the "jw experience" (sounds like a theme park ride doesn't it?
) polarises behavior somewhat between two extremes:.
we know in the jw scheme of things that friendships are very 'superficial'.

I have to admit that I was socially stunted by being raised as a JW. Even as an adult, I had a hard time relating to people in social situations. I worked with them well enough, but at company dinners or socializing with clients, it was hard. I usually tried to get out of it(which is what you're supposed to do anyway. Bad associations and all). I grew up trusting no one. I did not trust anyone in the world and for some reason it carried over to the witness life. As I have gotten older and become inactive, I have started to learn some social skills. I enjoy company cocktail parties, dinners and meeting clients over a meal. I can go in a bar now and strike up a conversation with a pretty girl(I couldn't even look em in the eye before). I still am skeptical of people in general but I have learned to meet people, size them up, and decide whether I could be friends with them(instead of assuming no friendship because they were not a JW). I don't think I will ever be the life of the party, but I can at least relax, enjoy myself, meet new people, make new friends.

Jehovahs Witness Thanksgiving
by Beans infirst i would like to say to all the canadians "happy thanksgiving" !
now for some reason the jw`s don`t celebrate thanksgiving because apparently everyday they thank jehovah and they don`t need a special day.
to me it is a family event and a good excuse to sit down together and relax.. now this gets interesting, my mother always buys a turkey the week after because they are cheaper and has us over for dinner the week after "jehovahs witness thanksgiving"!

Gopher,
LOL, I'm all for furry rodents. I luv em. I pulled for the gopher over Bill Murray in Caddyshack. O wait, that's an R-rated movie. Forget that I mentioned that. Chipmunks are great. They sing good too. Jerry was one cool mouse. So was Pixie and Dixie. The Brain was a little self-centered though. And who can forget Rocky the Flying Squirrel? I don't know Puxatawny Phil personally, but he was good in the movie(Hey, Bill Murray made two gopher movies, I just realized that). Anyway, more power to the rodent family. Without em, Hollywood would not be the mecca of entertainment that it has become today.

It didn't bother me not having a Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday. That meant I could watch the Cowboys and not be bothered with all that family nonsense.
Hated those 4pm games though. They always ran over and my mom wouldn't let me watch the end. Had to go to the hall ya know.

Take The Test!
by Dutchie inthis is a genuine psychological test.
it is a story about a girl.
while at the funeral of her own mother, she met a guy whom she did not know.

Thanks to funkyderek in exposing the falsehood of that survey. Good for me anyway. I answered so that the sis could meet the guy again at the next funeral.

UM...I hoping you're not talking about anyone in particular...
No more so than this statement:
I find it amusing when folks who haven't been registered users for more than a month or so want to make big blanket statements in regards this board and its members.
But, that's not what our discussion is about and I'm gonna drop that. I apologize if that offends.
I just see some negative stuff that makes it hard for some to see through. Others here think TB is a troll. He may very well be. But he did raise the point about "the attitude" and he does have a point. I'm just trying to be one of the non-negative ones(though there at the end, I was wavering) and on the chance he's not, help him see that we aren't all negative. And yes, there are lots and lots of non-negative ones. That's why I check on the board every so often. To get their veiwpoints. The bitter and hateful, I ignore.

valis or DObeer(I'll go with DObeer, I like that name)
You're right, I've only been posting for less than a month. My first post was asking for help for a doubter(me). I have learned a lot in the last couple of months and am still trying to deal with it. But I dont have to have 2000 posts to see that some here are bitter, angry people and they use this forum as a way to spout off. I ain't saying it's wrong, but they are there. I wasn't trying to be adversarial about it. I made a statement. Maybe it stung you a little bit, I dunno. I think I understand what this guy is asking and I sympathize with him. He may well be a troll, but then again, I've been accused of that too. I find it amusing that people who have been far removed from the WTS for years and thousands of posts still have to justify their existence by way of a exJW board. When I have learned all that I need to make the break, I will go on to live my life as I see fit, without having to seek the approval of any group, current, ex or otherwise.
