  When and where baptized

  i thought it might be interesting to see how many here remember where and when they were baptised into the borg.

  for some the memory may be too painful, but i'm curious.. me.

  Telephone "witnessing"

  the following presentations have been making the rounds at the local hall and on dub e mail.

  i thought i might post them for your edification.. if you get a call and someone starts giving you one these spiels you can have some good answers ready perhaps.. anyway,.

  Hi!

  My understanding of the telephone witnessing thing is because of all the no trespassing signs, which JWs are discouraged from entering posted properties. They figure if they can't ever get them door to door, they will start calling now. I'm sure there is more reasoning on this matter, such as many people at work, etc.

  I personally could never do telephone witnessing. I hate telemarketers as it is- I would be really pissed if I recieved a call like that! Just my opinion-thanks!!

  What should we name the baby?

  i am due in the middle of october and my husband and i cannot come up with a name.

  i almost had him sold on venus, until he asked people at work what they thought and he got wierd looks.

  i wanted to name the last baby sidney, but let him name her because he has never gotten a chance to name a kid before.

  How about,

  Ginee' or Leanne. I like those. I think if I was having a daughter now, I would probably name her after my Grandma, Audrey.

  Hello again!

  I seriously ask this question in light of some ridiculous experiences I have had in recent times. Here is an example:

  A while back,a freind of mine purchased a new home. A housewarming party was planned for her. Well, the person hosting the party recieved several phone calls from invited guests. An Elders wife called and said that she would not be able to attend because the party was called a "housewarming" , and this name has pagan roots(or something). Anyway, her Elder husband told her she could not attend unless they changed the name of the party!!! Have you ever heard of such ridiculousness??? Then, to add insult to injury to the gal and her husband that bought the home, a few others who were invited called and wanted to know if "worldly" people would be attending.(her husband is not a JW-she is) This poor sister had already been through some rough times in the cong. because she is married to a "worldly"man.

  Anyway,a few in the cong. were actually concerned about attending a party where a few"worldly" people might be. They reasoned that Cong. functions were not to include worldly people. For one thing, this was not a cong. gathering- it was a private party in a home- for another, why should this poor girl be penalized some more because her husband is non JW?? As it is, he has no use for witnesses anyway. This crap will just reinforce his feelings.(she married before she was JW).

  My rambling point is that because the society says certain things, JWs take it and run with it. When you may read something in a mag. or book, you have to figure out where and when something would apply. Not just used as " blanket " reasoning for everything, kind of a "one size fits all" attitude.

  These ridiculous JWs obviously cannot think for themselves. In their quest to always "give a good witness", all they accomplished here was making jackasses out of themselves. The worldly part of the family I'm sure were not impressed.

  This is only one example of brainless reasoning I have experienced for many years. I have had the phrase " the society says " quoted to me so many times. I feel like if I hear it again, I will scream!

  God created us with a brain for a reason. We were created as free agents,so to speak. I will repeat what I have said before, If we lose our ability to think and reason, where are we then??

  They Really ARE Drones

  on my way to a bus this a.m., i happened upon a mother and two sons (i think) doing streetwork with their magazines.

  the oldest son(he appeared to be about 15 years old) approached me and began his presentation with the 8/01 wt and its companion awake mag.. as i listened to him, i couldnt help but notice that there was no joy nor excitement in his voice.

  it was just a rehearsed presentation delivered in a monotone way.. how could the "troof that leads to eternal life" motivate someone so little when telling others about it?

  They do seem too robotic at times. I recently had an experience in my cong(among many others), that really drove it home. A friend of mine in the cong. is getting married soon. A lady in our cong. decided that she would give the bridal shower. Well, apparently the bride to be did not have much say about who would be invited I guess. I don't get that, seeing as how it is HER wedding, anyway, I have not been real regular at meetings, but am still friendly with the bride to be. The woman hosting the shower refused to invite myself and many others. Her reasoning? I have not been regular at meetings. Now, the woman who hosted this is not that"strong" herself. I was infuriated and still am. Why the bride did not stand up I do not know. But I was told by someone that this sister who hosted the party does things by "the book". How ridiculous. I have never been so insulted.

  My point being that they do things so mechanically without giving thought to the persons feelings, or the reality of the situation. I am in good standing with the cong. In no way am I a bad associate for anyone. Why can't we be judged based upon who we are? I will say it again-I know many people who never miss a meeting but they are complete idiots and have no personality- I guess drones.
