  A GILEAD STUDENT FROM THAILAND

  A young Thai girl who came to new York to attend the Gilead School in upstate South Lansing, New York, had a mental breakdown. Staff members pleaded with President Knorr to send her home by plane, under supervision. He adamantly refused and gave instructions to send her home alone, "the cheapest way possible." She was sent to San Francisco by train and had passage booked for her on a ship to Thailand.

  Evidently suffering another breakdown, she jumped overboard. The ship circled but never found her in the shark-infested waters. The captain sent a radiogram to the headquarters in Brooklyn. The switchboard operator, Arthur Barnett, received the message and receptionist Russell Kurzen also learned of the tragedy. The distressing news was then relayed to several members of the staff. When Knorr heard that the news was being circulated among the headquarters personnel, he was furious. Both men were reprimanded, and removed from their positions for revealing the contents of the radiogram.

  after working through some heavy-duty prophecies, she recalled thinking, this really is the truth!

  An experience told at the October 2, 2010 ANNUAL MEETING.

  Sarah: She was raised in the truth by her mom in California, but a turning point was when she was 11. She had planned on just swimming and taking it easy that summer, but her mother suggested that she should read one of the older publications, and she chose Babylon the Great Has Fallen. After working through some heavy-duty prophecies, she recalled thinking, “This really is the truth! No one could make this up. Jehovah is the true God and he must love us to go to all this trouble.” She made her dedication to Jehovah, and was baptized at a young age. One sister who had a positive impact on her was Nancy Yuen, a close friend of the family. Her zeal for the ministry and her reliance on Jehovah was outstanding. She helped her to learn to be prayerful in every aspect of life. When she was finished with her schooling, there was an economic downturn and jobs were scarce. One hundred people, some with PhD degrees, were applying for one part-time job. Nancy told her to be specific in her prayer, so she prayed to Jehovah about the hours and the salary she needed. She got the job with the exact hours and salary. When she came to Bethel she remembers that Russell Kurzen told her that in the early days Bethel was set up for brothers in mind, and now we are making adjustments since we love having you sisters here. There are some challenges, but prayer has remained a lifeline. Always the blessings outweigh the challenges. Traveling around the world on assignments and making friendships has been a truly amazing experience.

  "Identity Card"? I never knew about this. What is it, and when did The Watchtower start issuing those?

  i am acting as an in-between for a good friend who is not part of this site.

  his family were a century involved in the wtbts in the lower bc mainland; not to mention nw washington state.. he is no longer a member of the jw's.

  we're great friends; i knew him 25 years ago, long before i discovered this site (love it simon: yes, still all those years later).. anyways, he wants to get rid of bound volumes from approximately from the years: 1940 - until - 2000.. he asked me to intervene.

  this weekend was the convention for the southern san francisco bay area.

  it was held at the santa clara convention center in the silicon valley http://www.santaclara.org/conventioncenter/ which is an improvement over the old s.f.

  cow palace which is still used..just not as much.

  Starting to read 1984 by Orwell

  i bought the book for a number of reasons:.

  1. it sounds brill.. 2. it sounds like the kind of people who read are rather clever and well educated (and i want to be one of them).. 3. i may find it interesting how it relates to the jws.. regarding the latter, does anyone have any thoughts and feeling on this point, or is there anything i should look out for when comparing what orwell writes about with the jws?.
