  Why won't JWs have "civilized" debates with home owners?

  it seems kind of crazy to go to someone's house touting your religion as truth and then not even defend your own beliefs.

  why do jws stop the chat if someone just tries to calmly reason/debate with them?

  i'm not talking about crazy preachers who start slamming bibles and yelling about how they need jesus or something.

  The May 1892 issue of THE NATIONAL STENOGRAPHER mentions that Clayton J. Woodworth wrote an article entitled "The position he did nof fill" that was published in the April issue of The Phonographic World.

  The April number of The Phonographic World is more than usually interesting. "A Record of typewriters" is continued and presents cuts of the "New Vost," the Munson and the Columbia. There is also shown a cut of the old "No. 1," which has a place in our recollection as we purchased one of the first lot that was sold in Chicago. The following articles are quite interesting: "Comparisons are Odious," by F. E. Shrimpton; "The artistic in shorthand," by F. O. Hamilton; "Right fingerboarding for thought-roads," by M. M. Campbell, octogenarian; "The position he did not fill," by Clayton J. Woodworth.

  Here is what was expected.

  1) Jehovah's Witnesses will be taken directly from field service and sent to prison.

  2) Jehovah's Witnesses will be made to work in the fields all day, and given little food.

  These things were said during the late 1960's and through the 1970's, and were even told to the children!

  Some Witnesses lived their whole lives believing the above persecution would take place.

  And, even more, the persecution fantasy was wishful thinking on their part!

  They wanted it to happen, and look forward to it.

  Perhaps the thought of future persecution helps to hold the JWs together and keeps them going?

  i was doing some research in the very first issue of golden age (forerunner to awake!

  ), published october 1, 1919, and couldn't believe what madness was contained on some of its pages.. for example, i can't believe i missed this clipping when i was researching my article on racism in early watchtower literature a year ago..... .

  segregation of black children is basically praised as "wise" and "probably an advantage to all concerned.

  Beth Sarim was for the exclusive use of "Judge" Rutherford.

  For tax purposes I am sure it was considered like a "church owned" parsonage house where a minister would live.

  It is hard to believe that most witnesses thought nothing wrong about the "Judge" living in such luxury during the Depression.
