Yes, Israel was God's chosen nation as long as they REPENTED. HELLO!!! Trying to fight lawsuits, spinning the legitimate complaints of people who have been sexually molested is not repentance. So show some guts WT, repent, I'll respect you a lot more.

JWs and Blood Transfusions
by MavMan inthese are some excellent links for those that are investigating the pros and cons of blood transfusions.

I can't imagine there's a doctor alive who doesn't know that blood transfusions have side effects. But, they(side effects) are rare. When the chances of death are greater than the chances of a dangerous side effect, it's a simiple choice. I love the headline about less or no blood being better! That's true of all drugs, even aspirin. Look on a bottle of aspirin, it'll probably say that you should use the smallest effective dosage. Why? Because aspirin kills THOUSANDS of people a year. Take only as much as you need, no more!

Thanks for the feedback!
LDH Everything was in Spanish. But it wasn't the regular program, mind you. It was Easter. ( I went with my Mexican friend BTW)
Willy- Maybe I should rephrase my remarks about participation. Obviously there's no direct participation by most members in the services. And there isn't a body of elders and MSs who run the show, but a very limited number of (2 in this case) priests. At the hall, a man of little education could be a MS in a year and giving talks from the platform. So, in a very significant sense, there are opportunities for JW men to participate that would not be open to the vast majority of Catholics.
Also, don't take what I said as a derisive remark. It's not bad, just different. And I think it helps explain why each group has its own appeal. In my case, after several years of worrying about letting the wrong thing slip in conversation about how I really feel about the JWs, that kind of anonymity is wonderful. For those itchin' to have a more prominent role, the KH gives more people a chance.

USA Case Law & Shunning - Good and Bad
by Amazing inthe following is an article i found in my files this morning while i was looking for something else.
it is short and pointed:.
court backs shunning by religious group.

Amazing,
I see your angle. It's true that the society is able to use its shunning in an arbitrary way, if it so chooses. That could be used to our advantage. It would be nice to bring some pressure to bear on the society, and enjoy the light this would shine on the society's unscrupulous practices.
What I wrote was largely in response to what seems to be a recurrent theme on this board, "if we can sue them, they'll fall apart." That's not likely. But, a more modest goal, such as you propose, seems far more likely. I'm all for it!

I actually stepped into a Catholic church for the first time in my life last Sunday. I friend of mine didn't have anyone to go with her, so I offered take her. I went mostly out of curiousity. For someone raised as a witness from a very young age it was quite an unusual experience. I thought I'd share some observations with you.
I realized for the first time the appeal of the Catholic church. It's BIG and IMPRESSIVE. I loved the building, if for nothing else, for its artistic value. I felt so humbled by its grandeur. The people were very nice, very kind. There was lots of music. One song invited us to shake hands with our brothers, which was fun. The mass was in Spanish. There wasn't a sermon in the traditional sense, with a message. My friend said that usually there is a message, but today was different since it was Easter.
I also realized the appeal of the witnesses. I thought about the men around me, men of very little means and education. In the Catholic faith, there's really little room for participation on the part of individuals, which I think may make things seem a bit impersonal. I like that aspect, though. For me there was a healthy anonymity, not impersonalness. But I can see where the witnesses create a community that allows people to develop their abilities, to find fulfillment, to learn to teach and to speak in public. The great amount of personal attention may seem very flattering to one raised in the anonymity of the church, just as it seemed refreshing to me, one raised in a rather controlling atmoshpere.
There were lots of other interesting things about it all that I'll share with you later.

Organizations clearly have the legal right to disfellowship, we aren't going to change that. We CAN win in the court of public opinion, however. When enough people understand what JW's are all about before they get involved, they'll have to change. Face it, they pull a bait and switch. Their message to householders is very benign, even positive. They only reveal the more controversial aspects little-by-little. Unfortunately, religious organizations have the right to use techniques that are unscrupulous, because the government is so reluctant to interfere with religious practice. I think everything is going great. People are going to get more and opportunity to know what they're getting into beforehand. If they know what it's all about and they still want to be a witness, that's their business.

Anyone here want to admit to having been in Richmond? I'll admit I'm a little nervous about being too specific about my connection, let's just say I had a good friend who went to Richmond, yeah, that'll do.;)

A Cautionary Tale For Newbie Ex's.
by Englishman inone of the best parts of leaving the jw religion is the discovery that the majority of people worldly people are kind and decent folk, who are willing to be helpful if given the opportunity to do so.. but!
exiting dubs who have been born into the faith are definitely going to be somewhat naive in certain situations that can leave them open to abuse by cunning perpetrators.. i well remember my first couple of years out of dubdom.
i wanted to try anything and everything.
