For All Former Elders
by Yizuman ini would like to pose some questions that may challenge your thoughts, if i may.... .
former elders, while i may commend you all for seeing the real truth on about the so called "truth" and thus leaving the borg for what it really & truly is, a lie.
former elders, have you ever thought about or attempted to contact anyone that have been disfellowshipped by your involvement in the j.c.?

You make several interesting assumptions about those who have been DFed. Those who post here are probably not typical x-jws. Many, perhaps most, here believe that the Watchtower is a controlling group, even a cult and that any and all discipline meted out is abusive or harsh. On the other hand, many who have been DFed may agree with the reasons for the judicial action. They may honestly feel they disobeyed God and that only by accepting their punishment with humility can they please him. Ironically, some, probably most of those reinstated, would shun those of us who served on their JC but who are now DFed ourselves, or have faded.
You also seem to imply, though it may only be my inference, that all judicial action is unfair or inappropriate. Obviously, no elder will appologize for DFing anyone who murdered, molested children( an accused molester from our hall was DFed in another hall with evidence from our elder body)or others who really harmed another person.
In my personal case, I have appologized to noone, though I would if I knew where one in particular now lives.
An interesting aside. We once disfellowshipped a woman who had associated many years before. None of us knew who she was, but we got a report from another oldtimer that she was smoking. She refused to meet (I believe an elder talked to her on the phone, I don't recall how we communicated with her, but I know I never met her or ever had any idea who she was)so we disfellowshipped her in absentia, as they say. I will never know who she was! I live in another state, and could never get access to records from the hall anyway. I won't be apologizing anytime soon. Given her nonchalant attitude, I doubt she cares!(And I say good for her!!!)
Interesting question, nonehtheless,
Ron

Do you know what your last name means and where it comes from . . .?
by Justahuman24 ini have always been interested in what last names mean and where they come from and if someone famous in the past is related to us because of the same last name.
my last name comes from greek but my family is not greek.
it dates back to the year 700ce and it was around the time in europe when people were starting to get last names - i'm talking about the general people not monarchs.

My name is German for a barnyard animal, guess my ancestors were farmers, no doubt groveling before the ancestors of the more royal among us here on this board.

online courses?
by snarf ini was thinking of getting a degree in medical coding with one of those online colleges, has anyone tried those or know of anyone who tried it and what was the outcome?
are they legitimate degrees or is it a waste of time and money?
also, if anyone has any experience or knows of anyone with medical coding as a job, is it a good job or is it bad?

Online courses from an accredited university are legitimate. In fact, you'll most likely receive a transcript that doesn't identify your credits as 'external', so no one will know you didn't do the course in person. I'm sure there's also some shoddy, poor-quality schools that aren't recognized. When it comes to something like medical coding, I'm not so sure what kind of accreditation there is. One way to find out if the courses will help you would be to talk to a potential employer in your field. If they say they'll hire you when you're finished with the course, you'll be fine.

When Elder's Fade
by zack inas a publisher, still buying the wt line that they were god's sole channel and any problems, doubts, etc... i had were all a product of my own lack of.
wisdom and or humility or failure of application, i would be shocked and puzzled at how long-time elders would resign and then fade away.
i would wonder: what could have happened.

Count me in as one who faded, sort of. I started having panic attacks and got really stressed out. It's interesting that the GB might atribute the loss of elders to stress. In my case I now realize that the stress was a DIRECT RESULT OF FEELING OBLIGATED TO PARTICIPATE IN A SYSTEM I DIDN'T AGREE with. They were the cause of the stress. I would probably have fine if I had never become an elder. We hauled people in front of committees for the pettiest stuff and as a young elder I really could go along.
My guess is that a LOT of brothers are fed up with how congregations are run. They either leave altogether, or cut way back so that they don't have express belief in ideas that they don't go along with (blood, 1914, generation changes) or be harsh to the poor brothers in committees. It's not so bad to be a JW if you're rank-in-file (for me anywy, everyone's different).

Will Armageddon be announced through the WT Magazine?
by Nosferatu inafter seeing all the controversy on the fulfillment of matt 24:14, many are waiting for it to be printed in the wt in order for it to be true.. now, the latest wt is given to jws somewhere around 3 months before it's studied at the wt study (correct me if i'm wrong).
many, if not most jws don't bother reading the brand new magazines until it's time to prepare for the sunday wt study.. now, given that the wts has to print "new light" in the wt in order for it to be true, it would take three months if not more (printing, shipping time) to announce that armageddon has arrived.. isn't there something wrong with this picture?

You might argue that they've already announced it several times before. Why not one more time? Actually they got a little more on the ball about not being too explicit. Plausable deniability I think they call it. The current GB is a bit of a new crop. We'll see if they slip up and make an official pronouncement.

I live in Chicago. Well, hum...It´s about 0 degrees right now. We have a corruption tax of several thousand dollars a year per person, no one really knows for sure (that´s the assumed cost of the Daley administration´s payments to friends, family, mafioso types etc.) The Cubs will break your heart every year. Our last governor is in jail for selling driver´s licenses to truckers who couldn´t pass the test or didn´t care to try. Our current governor is going to jail (my opinion, too long a story, let´s just say his little daughter got a $1500 check for her birthday from a ´friend´who had just landed a government job, cool huh?) Can´t park anywhere. Cops are really rude, intimidating and vulgar at times. They like to drive on the sidewalk right behind you, while you scurry out of their way. God help you if you give them a dirty look for that. Michael Jordan is just a dream. When the cold leaves there will be about 30 minutes of nice temperatures before a heat wave of 90 degrees sets in.
On the bright side, if you like Vietnamese, Indian, Korean,Polish or any other kind of food you can get it. There´s a lot of work and I love hearing all the foreign languages spoken around me. It´s still a Midwestern town, so people are closer to being friendly, even though it´s a big city. It´s close to my parents (whoops, you don´t know them, they´re nice folks though, you should really stop by and have a chat with them.)
Hope this helps. ;)

I've recently made the decision
by Polishedgloss inwhich i think you guys call a fader...so far i'm pretty much got away with it.
my close family are in the truth love them to bits and i seriously dont want to alienate them- my story is a positive one, they have accepted that i dont go to meetings anymore and although they arent pleased they accept my viewpoint.
i am not a bitter ex-witness, i enjoyed my time meeting people while i was a witness although a lot shunned me after and a few years before i went 'public'

You sound like you´re on the right track to me. It´s great that you´re not bitter. I understand those who are are angry or bitter. It´s probably a normal part of the grieving process. You´ve lost a big part of your life and that can take some healing. Perhaps you can pass the angry phase and get on with your life sooner.

Watchtower Decline Confirmed - Only 1.9% growth in 2006!
by Neo inthe official watchtower 2006 service year report is not out yet, but i have it on good sources that this year's increase on publishers number is 1.9%.
the average number of publishers will be around 6,500,000. .
here's the % increase for this decade:.

Interesting information. It looks like the WT might settle into 1% or so growth for the near future. As you mention, aside from the 9/11 effect, it looks like all the recent years point in that direction. I wonder if it might hit negative rates at some time? That would be very discouraging for the brothers. These low rates can probably be rationalized as a slowing down due to the cooling off the love of the greater number or even a sign of the nearness of the end. But even these low growth numbers will no doubt dampen the enthusiasm of some. It'll be interesting to see what unfolds over the next few years.

Hi guys,
I'm from Richmond. I remember the Indy assembly hall real well. Some of these names are familiar. College Park was where I went to pioneer school. Instructors were Ebberline and Fetzik.(SP?). I was married in Noblesville, I think Durkee was the PO. Needham rings a bell. Was he the assembly hall overseer? Klein is a familiar name, but I can't picture any faces. You probably don't remember anyone from Richmond. We didn't have many speakers on the circuit assembly and we had a lot of internal problems. We almost got dissolved in the 80s.Anyway, Ihope more people can recall a few names. It's fun to think back on the good ole days. ;)
