I'm curious. WAS Nietzsche the most popular philosopher of all time? How can you prove that? What do you mean? You said he "is the most popular". Were you stating a fact?

jwfacts or jwinterpretations?
by slimboyfat injwfacts is a great website, but in view of the fact that "there are no facts, only interpretations", as nietzsche said, should the website be renamed jwinterpretations instead?

i hear you guys constantly mentioning ttatt so where can i go to learn more about this (links please)?

Ask her questions. Try to get her talking about HER opinion and not just repeating what she is supposed to say. Maybe you can get her to jwfacts.com?

Nice to have you. It's tough at your age. I am over twice your age. If there was two things I could tell you it would be this.
1. Don't get baptized. It will lock you into a course that will have you shunned if you leave JWs when you leave home.
2. Study really hard in school! You need to get awesome grades so you can get to college for as little money as possible.
Jwfacts.com is a huge storehouse of info about the religion. You can learn tons there. I wish you the best!

Oh pleaseeeeeee. I was hoping this thread would die so I didn't comment till now. But, SBF I kind of sort of respected the viewpoint you had before. But, this thread was nothing but an attempt to stir up trouble. You purposefully created it just to be a pain. Now you cry abuse. You should be ashamed.

Excuse needed to get out of talk
by noonehome ini work with the school overseer so he'll be with me all day before the meeting...so being 'sick' isn't an option.
this really isn't like me to weasel my way out of something....but i've been ridiculously depressed lately and honestly i just don't have it in me to do anything let alone put a talk together.
everytime i do one it takes allot out of me and let's just say the well is pretty dry.

When I was fading I used to say I couldn't give the talk due to stress and not being able to handle it, then be at the meeting. I think this helped as they worried less about me, I was just the guy going through the stress of these last days and not handling it as well as others, but I wasn't in danger since I was at the meeting.
But then I got so sick if it all I just quit. Turbo faded. :)

I used my stress and depression as an excuse for talks. I just said I'm sorry but I can't emotionally handle it right now. But.... Depending on how much you all talk at work maybe you feel that's not an option.
One thing I learned in your shoes before fading was to get it over with quickly. You don't need the anguish eating at you for days as you struggle with the excuse. Make the call or text today. Get it over with. Also, I have a few general tips to add for excuses.
1. A great excuse is very simple. If you explain to much or offer too many details it can seem contrived or open you up for the other person trying to "help" you or trying to pick holes in it.
Example of a good excuse: YOU- I will not be able to give my talk this week. I wanted to give you as much notice as I can, so I'm telling you now. HIM- well what's wrong brother? YOU- I am under too much stress right now, I can't emotionally handle it right now. I'm dealing with some personal issues and will be fine in the future, but right now I can't handle it.
2. Avoid the temptation to offer lengthy excuses. The shorter and more tactful but direct the better.
3. Remember that only YOU know how you are doing mentally. Being physically sick can work sometimes but stress is something that can't be argued.
4. Text message or email is best. Send the text at home at night or during day when not with the other person. This encourages them to respond over text which is easier on you, in addition it gives him time to accept you are not doing it before you see him in person.

Timing of the "new light" study and the upcoming annual meeting
by stuckinamovement ini find it interesting that the 7/15 watchtower will be studied from september 2-29th and then the annual meeting will be exactly one week after.
.
it strikes me as an effort to emphasize the fds and their role before a big announcement.. siam .

Great observation. But, I'm not sure what huge announcement even could be made. They cannot reverse stance on 1914 or blood. The religion would collapse with a 1914 reversal and be sued out of existence with a blood reversal. They could say its time to stop preaching. I imagine the cost of printing the mags for public and all the study material is very high. With their new focus on the website they could say that it available to the whole world. But, then why the literature carts lately? Bringing back a charge for the publications could happen. That way the sheeple have to pay for anything they take. Plus they could make a fortune of the new bible since everyone would have to buy it.

Last night the one cool elder calls me
by confusedandalone ini figured he was going to arrange the committee and try to get me kicked out after the whole "big pile of books" labelled "take this shit".. well his call made me realize that more and more people ... elders included no longer take this religion seriously.
after he told me he heard what happened he actually laughed and said i would never expect that.
he then told me that it is apparent that i no longer want to be connected to the organization.

Well I know you should do what is the real best course for your new life. But, I also love the idea of your brother getting pissed and amazed your not DFd. lol Also, if you really don't care about being DFd and you make the decision to turn in the letter or to tell them to df you, then I'd talk to this guy and see if he can be reached with TTATT. I think he may already be half way there.

Tech 49: the 3 F's...Fading, Field Service, and Friends
by Tech49 inhere we are, the family and i, moving along in our slow journey to freedom.
although they are unaware, for the most part, our ship is slowly veering off course.
not enough to cause attention, not enough to trigger alarm bells, but just enough.. since the summer dc, i have watched carefully, as the new releases remain on the coffee table, in plain sight, not touched, more of a decoration that anything.

Good job jack. I feel you on what you have described. Don't be sad about not getting noticed like you might have thought. I had very close family still in who hounded the e,ders to shepherd me. I was pestered for months. It's a horrible experience. You can't really tell them what's wro g. You just have to deal with the hounding non-stop. Anyways, glad it's working well for you. Hang in there.
