Ha. I love this question. It doesn't fit with why Abel would be offering sacrifices. Makes no sense.

A scary day in FS today
by InChristAlone intoday, the jw who normally comes and his son visited my house.
we were talking on the doorstep for about ten or fifteen minutes when the son began to to faint.
i saw it coming, but i couldn't reach him before he fell backwards, hitting his head on the brick landscaping border.

Was it hot? What time of day was it? Sounds like they needed a break. Of course breaks are frowned upon now.

Why does god kill children?
by Comatose ini was thinking about all the accounts in the bible that indicate god kills children as a punishment or teaching experience.
1. kills all of egypts firstborn sons, who were innocent kids who did nothing to him or his people, who had no control over the decisions pharoah made.
how many times have you read that account or thought about it without realizing the devastating pain dealt to all those parents, and remembered those were innocent kids?.

I accept or dismiss based on Christ.
In order to be honest with ones self, I would think that a person who feels this way would need to dismiss just about everything except the gospels or possibly just a couple of the gospels. How anyone could feel comfortable accepting only portions of books or certain verses is beyond me.

Tec- I spelled his name wrong. It's Achan, and here is the relevant info. http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Joshua+7&version=NIV
I do already foresee what your response will be. No need to type a lengthy rebuttal.
I am hoping people with questions or lurkers will find the topic and discussion interesting. Not really looking to have lengthy postings back and forth with those who do not believe the ENTIRE bible is inspired. For those like you, none of these accounts matter. But, for those who are current JW or just in fading, the concept of ignoring parts of the bible is foreign and doesn't make sense. So it is the searching ones who may find this concept of god killing kids for poor reasons interesting.
For example with Michelle. She seems to believe the entire bible is inspired and true. It is her I hope to get thinking about how this type of god could be loving.

Dear michelle,
God kills kids that are innocent. That's not fair or loving. It's wrong and makes a mockery of god is love chants. Really doesn't take too much study to come up with that. Pretty easily spotted. But, there is not good excuse to quickly type in a rebuttal. Which is probably why you all are at a loss.

So the 32k virgins god said they could keep after being told to slaughter the old women and little ones they had brought back? Try number 4 with you...
Did you ever consider that "god" was telling the child sacrifers to do that as well? Not the Hebrew god but their god. I'm not sure why that is bloodlust and its not with the Jews. How do you know if those parents were crying and tormented and guilt ridden over what their god and religious leaders told them to do?
you keep pointedly ignoring the question on the virgins, which leads me to believe you either have no answer or you didn't know it was in the bible and don't know what I'm talking about.

I found this nugget too Obuillete. I mentioned it to a few and it was totally ignored or I was told that it wasn't new and they remembered it at a convention.
