*FIRST* - A clarification that needs to be made. This is not about ALL women. There is nothing wrong at all with cosmetic surgery. I am going to try to point out some logical thinking flaws in JW sisters and brothers. I am not against cosmetic surgery.
In the hall we belonged to for several years, there were at least eight sisters with breast implants. There were about the same number who had other types of cosmetic surgery. In the hall prior to that, there were several breast implant sisters and several facelift sisters. Of the ones who had the cosmetic surgery I mentioned, about half were elders wives. Elder wife... Not a big deal to me. I don't mention it because it makes me shudder that an elderette had fake breasts, I mention it because its a family decision and they should be spiritually mature. Their husbands should be looking at the big picture regarding "how close we are to the end".
One of the primary sisters who stopped by all the time and gave us a very hard time about our Turbo Fade was an older sister who also showed off her second facelift and lip work when she popped in. She said, "Oh the new light in the watchtower is so exciting, it's all we talk about in service. Have you seen it? We are SOOOOOO close to the end!". Really? So close that you had to go spend thousands on a superficial and frivolous facelift? Mmmmkay.
And the boob jobs. The end is just around the corner. We are on the threshold of the threshold of Armageddon. We have one foot through the door to the new system. We are in the final seconds of this old system. The end could come any day now. So hurry out and get breast implants everyone. How on earth could you serve these final months without the larger breasts you've always wanted. Thousands of dollars on something that would be truly pointless in paradise? Sure! That makes sense.
If paradise were real, then either a new order doctor would have to perform surgery in 50 or 75 years to remove these leaking implants or Jehovah would have to perform a miracle and put you back the way your genes said you should be. It's so stupid, vain, and pointless for a truly spiritual sister to do! I mean JWs are discouraged from getting new houses or fancy cars because they are not a priority with the end so near. But, fake breasts? The sisters can't wait.
Okay, reminder about this post. I don't find anything wrong with cosmetic surgery. It's any persons private choice. But, I don't get it with regards to JW women.

Slowly waking from my long sleep, I don't know where I am when I take a peek
Nothing looks familiar, I'm tired and weak, throat so dry I can hardly speak
I feel panick settling in as I try to move my legs and I raise my chin
I see bare walls and a sterile white sheet, slowly I sit up and I wiggle my feet
IV in my arm and a beeping machine, on the beds railing I begin to lean
I swing my feet to the floor taking a step before crashing to the ground beside the bed in which I slept
Voices of alarm and feet are heard running, the door swings open and nurses are shouting
I look from face to face trying to talk, my body so skinny I couldn't even walk
Where am I, what happened, why am I here - taking my hand she says listen to me dear
No one thought you'd wake up, no one thought you'd return...
For years I've been comatose I'm startled to learn

Hi everyone !!!
by Durden ini am durden.. a teenager that is an unbaptized publisher and is trying to leave this damn cult !!!.
i have been lurking here for some time and i decided to start posting with this intro.. im from europe, both my parents are jw's, my parents are both teachers (math teachers).. my parents are "softcore" jw's, they accept all my questions and try to answer them.. i am trying to "convert" my dad (an elder which might complicate things), me and my dad recently had various discussions about the org ("discussions" on the good sense of the word).. we talked about jehovah in the nt, 1975, 1914, gb in 1st century, the cross, "new lights" ..., you know the usual stuff.. and all is going well i think, i think i can "convert" him until the end of summer.. i mean is a logical man, what can go wrong ?
man, when i found jwfacts it was like my world had collapsed, all thoses lies .... but its good now to have found the truth.

Welcome Durden! Congrats on being where you are at a young age. I wish I had known what I know now back then. Sadly, I did not.
You are ahead of pace on life now! :) So here are a couple ideas I have since your parents are math teachers, these have to do with math.
First, look up and read about when the flood happened. The WT online library on JW.org can give you all the info on this, so you can ask your dad about it using just WT info. So they give you the date of the flood, then notice that Nimrod according to the info in the bible, built The Tower of Babel just about 110 to 140 years later. Figuring out these times is the math challenging part. You have to look at lineages and deduce on your own how many years would have passed for the few generations between Noah and Nimrod. Remember that according to the bible god limited the number of years to their life to what we have now. Once you and him have agreed on a number of years between Noah and Nimrod, then the question is- So your telling me that while Noah's own sons were just barely dead, the earth had already gotten so bad again that god thought he had to confuse the languages? Did Noah's sons not teach their children about the flood miracle they were a part of? How could several hundred people or even a few thousand have built a tower into the heavens so impressive that it scared god into confusing the languages? How could there have been enough people to build the tower, if they were spreading out in the earth after the flood? Because the pyramids and the Great Wall of China were built around the same time in history. So how were there enough people to build all those things after the flood? How does the math add up?
The math absolutely does not make sense. It is impossible. I think this would be powerful for your dad.

Experience regarding Elders being spirit appointed
by Comatose ini was told recently about a situation where an elder did not get recommended to serve upon moving to a new hall.
i think he left for a job.
but, something internal politics happened in the old hall and he was not recommended.

Quarterback I agree. I also know how the appointment works, but still have heard countless local needs and WT articles on them being appointed by Jehovah. In fact, in one of my public talks when I was in all the way, I even had a section where I mentioned David and King Saul. I pointed out how David respected King Saul and refused to do anything against him and then likened that to pubs and elders...
So, for me it seems like one of the many contradictions in the org. The elders are appointed by Jehovah. Except when they are not and we need to step in and fight it. If they were appointed by HS then we wouldn't have these problems. But Holy Spirit direction for me doesn't exist anymore.

Welcome, I know the beginning of learning the real truth about JWs is scary. Hang in there. There is so much more that life has to offer. Leave before your daughter understands and is scarred by this. Post on here to vent. Hang in there. Best wishes.

I know its tough to speak up at your age, but I can't emphasize enough the importance of speaking up here very tactfully and firmly. Do not reveal your doubts. But, do stop the study. It is unnecessary. You do not need it. Tell your mom you are stopping, be firm, and then stop the study.
If you keep it up and get baptized you will lose all your family when you leave in a year or two. I liked the advice to get a job. You must go to college and you can't be spending time with assigned goals and be preparing for school and college.
You don't have to say you don't believe, just say you appreciate what effort and concern but you don't need the study.

I was told recently about a situation where an elder did not get recommended to serve upon moving to a new hall. I think he left for a job. But, something internal politics happened in the old hall and he was not recommended. He went and immediately started meetings, service, and comments. Had a lot of friends over in the hall and generally campaigned for appointment.
The new hall liked him a lot. He volunteered for talks etc, and talked to all the new elders about his past elder career. After a few months of schmoozing the new hall told him they were going to reappoint him at the next CO visit. He of course told lots of his old friends this news. Because everyone in "the truth" bases your worth on your standing in the hall. I would guess to hear the story he also wanted them to know that he was going "to serve" again. Probably was very proud.
So the old hall body of elders catches ear of this turn of events. They then contact those elders to say that proper protocol is to ask them if any in the old hall would be offended if he was reappointed. They also say that YES people would be bothered, so its not proper to appoint him.
So two things here.
One, isn't it funny the way congregational politics works?
Two, if spirit does the appointing, then how could it be wrong to appoint him?
If a publisher in the hall spoke out against an elder they would be back roomed for speaking out against an appointed man. But, the elders are going against gods spirit and making sure he doesn't get reappointed. Twisted logic. How can elders counsel that they are appointed by the spirit and yet work against that spirit?
ridiculous.

"Snakes will eat dirt in the new order."
by Comatose ini was talking with a jw i've known a long time and the topic of da new order came up.
she mentioned how nice it will be when all animals are at peace.
i asked why they had camouflage and defensive and offensive weapons if they were to always get along?
