ScenicViewer, your situation sounds like one in my area. Spanish and English sharing a hall and the Spanish cong was growing fairly quickly. Land was purchased and the congs were making payments for years but it's still vacant after 8-10 years. Been out too long to know the scoop but it doesn't look like there will be a new hall, yet there are no For Sale signs on the property. Maybe when Momma bOrg stole all their savings there wasn't enough left to build.

What Kingdom Halls do you know of that have been closed down recently?
by 4thgen inrecently, we drove by the kingdom hall in galena, il, the sign was removed and it was closed down.
a while back, the hall in taylor mo was also closed.
one congregation in peoria, il was dissolved last year.

new assembly experience... what do you reckon to this one?
by purrpurr inok so aparently there was this young girl who wanted to study with the jw's because she loved the bible so much.
she asked her fathers permission but he refused, after much nagging though he said she could have a study if she was prepared to have one of her fingers chopped off.
he thought the is would stop her but she was willing so he got a knife and cut off one of her fingers... a little while later she wanted to attend the meetings and he said no and again when nagged said she could attend meetings if she had another finger chopped off so she agreed and he chopped off a second finger.

Finally Free!!!
by ADJUSTMENTS inmy wife and i are finally free of this horrible cult we will be leaving the south east for the north western part of the us to start anew!!!
our friends and family have no idea of our new beliefs and feelings on the cult so it should be a nice clean break!

I plan to share this with an old friend, an ex-elder who left his wife and the bOrg and was df'd but now tells me he is working hard to be reinstated. (WTF?) I thought he was intelligent but we'll see how he reacts to these news articles and lawsuits.

Stillin, I agree. From the comments I've heard, most look down on me with pity, convinced that I have either done something I'm ashamed of or that I've allowed someone to stumble me. Poor me.....Meanwhile, I am enjoying a beautifully cool sunshiny morning and I get to plan my day according to my wishes.
But I really like the idea of counteracting their attempts with "Oh, my goodness, have you not heard of the widespread child abuse scandals? It's worse than the catholic church!" and them hand them some newspaper clippings on Candace Conti, the Texas 6, the UK scandals...and toss in a letter from the UN as well.

Although the thought of watching the cartoons in Ucantnome's underwear sounds like fun...I like to garden and see beautiful plants grow. I'm also re-reading lots of books from past decades that I never had time for or "shouldn't" have read because they were (oh, no!) "worldly". Then there is craft beer...grandkids...and being at peace every day. And I am particularly fond of sleeping in on the weekends...not that I do, but knowing that I CAN. Lovely.

Rutherford's love letter to Hitler

they have and entire section dedicated to the jehovah's witness in that museum.
i would hate for tourists to visit the museum and not get the whole story.. i would also assume there are jw displays at other holocaust museums around the world.
