  JW view of swearing on the bible?

  does anyone remember how they used to view this?..like in a court of law..when they have to put their hand on a bible and swear to tell the truth?.

  but the latest watchtower says it is a personal decision..yet they quote nothing but scriptures to support doing it!..i can't remember what they taught.

  Cant remember the WT statement but it was definately a no no. This is a change in policy as we certainly were not allowed to swear on the Bible. "Swear by nothing in heaven or on earth" was the Scripture they used. Plus a simple "Let your yes be yes and no be no" as a back up.

  the person used the tacks used for posting letters and talks and spelled out the expletive.

  I cried for the past

  i cried for a long time today, very deeply, sobbing heavily for those i have lost in my life.

  mostly due to watchtower rules.. i am developing a new set of bear friends and look forward to good times with them.. the suicidal thoughts have subsided.. i have never really tried to make a concrete set of friends here.

  i think its time to do so.

  for the first time in nearly two years, we were invited out for a meal by a bunch of dubs from the cong'.

  the former po, his wife and mother-in-law and a couple of single mums and their kids.

  frankly i could've done without it - all the pretence etc.

  Snitchers?

  i read a few apostate books during my research as a jw...after confessing in private to a best friend that i'd read them i got snitched on and they ran and told the elders....prats!

  this led to a judicial and a 6 month probation, wasnt allowed to do carpark duty (sobs) or michrophone duty (baawl) for 6 months nor could i answer up at meetings which led to tongue wagging, could go on doors though... a bit strict huh.. also know of a 6 year old who handed in her dad for speaking to apostates!

  Undercover. good post! nothing but the terminology has changed! In saying that they used the same terminology when I was put on probation, they told me I was on probation and yep I was watched for 6 months then taken off.

  Seems my "friend's" conscience was bothering him and he fessed up to the elders.

  What a self rightous nut! That gets up my nose, and for them to dish out punishment for something that had happened so long ago! Even the NWT says "Love doesnt keep a record of wrongs"
